I hope somebody posts a video on-line, praising Prince, and when he calls her, she will say: "I want to make an album like the Carmen Elektra album you did!"

That way, we'll at least get something that is fun to listen to.

Or someone who says: "Like Parade!" And then he'll pull out all these songs from the vault...

I've yet to listen to the album, but there are two major positive developments already:

1) The latest Prince-protege album is available for free

2) It was released quickly with minimal fanfare or fuss. In fact. most of us didn't even know it existed.

In fact, I'm going to play that right now, followed by one of Prince's last brilliant songs 'Ain't No Place Like U' on Mayte's album.

I was totally hoping this "amazing" news was gonna really be something Amazing...

Such a let down..

Its really sad.. I use to get SO excited with ANYTHING to do with Prince. If he was on a talk show or award show I'd be so excited all day you'd think I was getting married or something...

but the last few years he just seems so blah.....

I know alot of you WON'T agree.. and will start throwing "bombs" at me..

but this is just MY opinion..
Not the world of Gospel..

BUT ~~ I REALLY REALLY wish he'd dump these semi talented Girls... cut his hair back to a "adult" sexy looking style (maybe like the 2004 look)

find himself a REAL band (or even a revamp of the NPG with the hornz and key boards etc)

and get back to making funky awesome music like he always has...

To me he is living in a pretend world...

The 70's hair cut, the 70's clothes.. the girls that dress like 70's hippies..

Sorry.. but I just can't "Dig it"

He has SOOO much talent and he is SOOO handsome and sexy....

but he really needs to look at what he has become..
its NOT a good look if you ask me..

I agree, I don't expect much from Prince anymore. I'm just glad if he drops an album or a new song every now and then but the thrill is gone. I'm sick and tired of all proteges hes surrounding himself with, it would be better of he focused on the remasters with bonus material instead

I wonder if that was the plan. Also, how the fuck is that zip file 1.19 GiB? Even uncompressed an album is 700-800 MiB.

.

Of course the zip file is utterly crap, made on a mac and thus including numerous pointless meta folders.

.

The WAVs have a 96k sample rate, so they're high-def. They really should have used FLAC to reduce the size.

.

Zero information, only that crappy pic is included. Really remarkable how little care there is in this packaging.

.

The music is a mish-mash of all kinds of R&B/soul/funk. Ya like Amy Winehouse? Well then you'll like tracks 5 and 9. Want some modern sounds? Go to track 3. Etcetera. All pointless and faceless and mediocre and generic and dull. It is EXACTLY the kind of record you'd expect from a back-up singer with no personality.

.

I can't imagine why anyone would pay good money for this record, and I really don't see why The Current mentions her in the same breath as Kendrick Lamarr or FKA Twigs, she's a dime a dozen artist.

2 things:

1 - if Prince brought peace to the Middle East and reversed global warming tomorrow, some people would point out he hadn't cured cancer....

2 - in relation to the actual music, I do feel we've been here before with Tamar. It's not bad, but, for me, it's all a bit pointless...

He learned about her when he saw a video clip of her being interviewed on a European TV show and she mentioned that she’d like to work with Prince.

.

In other words: Prince did a Youtube search on his name to see if any fans had posted videos, so he could sue them. Instead, he finds an interview with this gal and presto! she's his latest protege!

.

Prince was asked how he felt about making music available on iTunes. So he recounted a dinner meeting he'd had with Apple executives in about 2005. He asked what was the biggest selling album at the time on iTunes. He was told 200,000. “The meeting is over,” he said.

.

Well sure, Prince, you're moving WAY more units than that, right? rolleyes

.

there are two Princes.the one I will always love, and this guy in 2015.

.

AMEN!

.

This is how bad it's gotten in Princeland lately...he's giving away an album FOR FREE....and I'm not the slightest bit interested in downloading it.

.

Me too. sad sigh

Oh man, the write-up at The Current is even better.

Yeah, this doesn't jive with Jon Bream's observation that "He wasn’t putting on airs or playing games." Seems like all Prince did was give the same ol' nonsense. Mentioning Hill's "analog voice" is obviously without content. He uses "analog" as a buzzword to signify "real music". He uses "major key" the same way - I think it's supposed to indicate that the music he makes is uplifting. Either that or he genuinely believes that "minor keys don't make a roller skate jam", which is an odd thing for a veteran musician to think.

.

Andrea Swensson's write-up makes the whole thing seem so amateur. Just hire some people who know what they're doing, jeeez.

These days Bream is so scared of being ostracized from the Park again that he just can't face up to do any real reporting. No way we'd get something as critical as the article he once wrote that ended up in the booklet of The Gold Experience.

I like watching Jester and Danny review the events because they seem to find the positive in every situation. And they don't expect anything from him.

I love watching Jesse and Danny's videos. They are always so positive, happy and upbeat. Imo, they are perfect Prince fans, they accept whatever happens and are always gracious and kind. Thank U for sharing your experience Jesse and Danny smile headbang You really paint a colorful picture for those who couldn't make it. Prince hasn't brought peace to the Middle East. He's been kind of screwing up a lot lately. There has been some awesome songs, but another shit tour that nobody with a real job can take a trip to go see, using Auto-Tune in his music, and having some psycho babble ho bantering on about "MR Nelson, I'm talking over your music so the good quality is not being heard as my annoying voice is over taking it."

So it's ok to bitch about Prince. From 1978-1984 he could do no wrong...and from 1985-1988, he recorded some of the greatest music ever, and teamed up with Warner Brothers to do everything possible to make it sell as little as possible. SOTT would have been a career defining moment for just about anybody else. A sales dud for Prince.

Remember how Prince bitched about iTunes?

.

Here's something I read today:

.

Beyoncé’s surprise release changed the music industry more than any other album in the last 10 years, but not in the way you may think. When she released her eponymous album at the end of 2013, the reaction was unparalleled. There had been surprise releases before, but none of this magnitude. There were no leaks. No physical copies. No marketing budget. No singles. No streaming. If you wanted to hear one song you had to buy them all. And yet Beyoncé still sold over 800,000 units in 72 hours on iTunes. It was a ***Flawless rollout and an unprecedented risk for a superstar artist in the prime of her career to take.

.

There wasn’t a single appearance on a late-night talk show to belt out a single, no billboards or posters, no interviews touting her recording process, nothing. It was a new blueprint for musicians, one that was so intriguing it was studied by Harvard Business School. The classic album rollout protocol — at least two singles, a huge promotional tour, and finally the album release — was turned on its head. Beyoncé put the focus back on the full-length album like it hadn’t been in years. And more importantly it showed that people are still willing to pay $15.99 for a full-length album, especially if they’re already invested in the artist.

.

That blueprint has been successfully repeated recently by Drake and Kendrick Lamar, with If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late selling 495,000 copies in three days, and To Pimp a Butterfly moving 325,000 units in its first week. Kanye West has hinted that his next album won’t be announced before it’s released. It’s a brilliant move, and one that more artists will surely take part in. Why pay for marketing when you can let the fans take care of it?

.

[...]

.

And a surprise, leak-free release is much easier to pull off without brick-and-mortar retailers. It’s slightly ironic that the entity that killed the album — iTunes — will likely be a main factor in its revival. Apple is going after more exclusive album releases like the deal it had for Beyoncé, and it wouldn’t be surprising if it got more of them. In reality, only a few artists can withstand an album leak and still do major numbers in the first week, making security the most important factor after an album is finished. Not everyone is Taylor Swift — an album leak can and does negatively impact dozens of artists every year. But unlike every album that heads to retail stores on the initial release date, albums released on iTunes first simply don’t leak. And while other platforms like Google Play Music and Amazon Prime Music have similar track records when it comes to securing an album, they don’t have the reach of iTunes, putting Apple in prime position to make those exclusive deals happen.

.

Oh look, yet another thing Prince was completely wrong about because he was too greedy.

.

Then again, such things only work if the fans are helping the hype. Considering Prince has spent close to two decades pissing his fans off...
