She's not under Prince, she under Sony. She's not relying on him for promotion. Not that Sony is any guarantee for success if you look at their roster, but being associated with Prince won't hurt anything.

Even so, why not just say its a Judith Hill listening party? Too pursposely decieve people who took the time to go out there on the back of making it seem to be something else?

If he felt like giving her a bit of exposure then it's the wrong way to do it,

Maybe he's not sure of what he's produced and wanted reactions/opinions on the tracks, that which he wont get from people who live and breathe Prince in Paisley park.

I bet a few left feeling a little bummed out after making the effort to go up there.

The likelyhood is, if he's done this in 2 weeks, its not very good or he's recycled tracks he hasnt used himself.

Aw c'm'on. Frozen American-egyptian mid-west architecture remains a grand sight to behold, whatever the hour.

There are still door knobs to steal. They must be worth something on eBay.
Maybe not enough for the gasoline needed for a round-trip, though.

Go read Jon Bream's write-up. Seriously, it's incredible.

.

Here's a sample:

.

“What’s the most efficient way to get this music out?” he asked, noting that the music-bz landscape has changed.
.
Rachel Chazin, a digital producer for Fox 9, suggested Spotify. Prince had no idea what Spotify is.
.
So Chazin, who said she’s 23, explained how the online listening service works, with a $10 fee per month or free music with commercials mixed in.
.
Prince liked that suggestion and asked his associate how long it would take to get on Spotify? “One week,” Guy said. Prince said to pursue it even though he was told that Spotify pays very minimal royalities to artists.
.
Prince was asked how he felt about making music available on iTunes. So he recounted a dinner meeting he’d had with Apple executives in about 2005. He asked what was the biggest selling album at the time on iTunes. He was told 200,000. “The meeting is over,” he said.

.

They're really living in a bubble.

haha doesnt know what spotify is? I'm sure NPG Publishing will have been informed that Prince's albums are on there, something like that would I'd imagine be something that would be run by Prince for some sort of sign off?

Doesnt agree with iTunes, but his own publishing company sign off on it being on Spotify streaming for free?

Like you say, living in a bubble,

He really doesnt have a clue, he needs to put his Ego aside and let someone with actual industry knowledge advise him and take it all on board or just say to someone, here is my music, do what you need to do to get it out there.

It's a bubble within a bubble because he's just an introvert at heart and plays by his own rules, even when they don't make much sense to the rest of us. I like watching Jester and Danny review the events because they seem to find the positive in every situation. And they don't expect anything from him.

I wonder if that was the plan. Also, how the fuck is that zip file 1.19 GiB? Even uncompressed an album is 700-800 MiB.

Oh man, the write-up at The Current is even better.

.

He pointed up to the studio’s speakers. “How do you get an album like this out quickly, while also recognizing its inherent value? Because this album is expensive. What you’re hearing is money.”

.

Bwahahahaha.

.

The Current’s program director Jim McGuinn suggested that maybe the success Prince is hoping for doesn’t happen overnight. McGuinn brought up Adele as an example of someone who went from playing the Current’s studios one year to selling copies of her record to people’s grandmothers the next.

“Would you play the Current?” Prince asked, turning to Judith.

After a long pause, she said, “I’d play Bunkers.”

“I suppose I should have told you it’s a radio station,” Prince replied, smirking.

“Oh,” she said.

.

Bwahahahaha.

See..I KNEW there would be some one.. So many of Prince's "followers" are so brain washed and single minded... Prince could shit on a stick and they'd call it ART...

I DO know music... I've been around music and such since 1975.. IF these girls were SO hot and talented.. they wouldn't need Prince to push them forward.. they'd of made a name on their own.. I did not say they had NO talent.. they are ok back up singers.. but NOT a bad that a super star like Prince should be wasting ALL his time on.. AND touring with.. I have dated black guys.. I KNOW alot of black guys.. and they agree.. the fro might look cool on him if he was 25..but shit.. he's 56 years old.. AND its too big.. Trim it up.. make it look neat.. (think of him in the Musicology video) that was fine.. really read on Prince sites.. NOT just THIS one.. I'd say 80% of the fans do NOT like his hair that way.. He is too small to have that much a hair..

I am NOT a hater.. Hell I've been a Prince fan LONGER than alot of these Orgers have been alive.. I've been to 25+ concerts, Paisley Park Parties.. I've MEET Prince SEVERAL times.. I love his work.. and I have followed him through ALOT....

but this stage he has gone through since late 2012 is wearing thin... If these young ladies are so talented.. set them free... lets see how far they go with out Prince as their leader... I'd be curious to see it..

and also.. I said this is just how I feel..........

Its the not the words of EVERYONE... if you dig all this.. great.. More power too you.. but I don't .. and reading hundreds of comments all over the place.. alot don't either. PERIOD

.

Of course the zip file is utterly crap, made on a mac and thus including numerous pointless meta folders.

.

The WAVs have a 96k sample rate, so they're high-def. They really should have used FLAC to reduce the size.

.

Zero information, only that crappy pic is included. Really remarkable how little care there is in this packaging.

.

The music is a mish-mash of all kinds of R&B/soul/funk. Ya like Amy Winehouse? Well then you'll like tracks 5 and 9. Want some modern sounds? Go to track 3. Etcetera. All pointless and faceless and mediocre and generic and dull. It is EXACTLY the kind of record you'd expect from a back-up singer with no personality.

.

I can't imagine why anyone would pay good money for this record, and I really don't see why The Current mentions her in the same breath as Kendrick Lamarr or FKA Twigs, she's a dime a dozen artist.

This is how bad it's gotten in Princeland lately...he's giving away an album FOR FREE....and I'm not the slightest bit interested in downloading it.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

i'm glad that Paisley Park is seeing more action and i think it's great that prince is showcasing new artists. it's got to be hard, being an up and coming musician, finding people to give you a chance to strut your stuff. prince is doing that for people. it's super nice of him and he rocks

I think Prince is a pretty awesome person for doing this for Judith. He put in a lot of his time and energy to produce this album and even his money. Now he is trying to give her some exposure to get the music out. Not many big artists who would do this for anyone. It's called MINNESOTA NICE!
