Exactly this!! I'd say most of us are just fans & know not a thing about Prince & his life. That's what makes him all the more intriguing & interesting.

Wonder what's going on with the physical releases? The CD is listed for preorder on alloevolution, but the special edition USB seems to have been yanked (it's in the Google cache, but not live on the site). The regular CD edition indicates a "digital booklet" and a limited first run on gold CDs. Amazon still lists the special edition and has updated the format from CD to DVD-A (despite the title still indicating USB).

MJMIa,

Thank you for the warm thank you.

Who do you believe was Prince hurting about then?

It is true that there appears to be quite some depth to the pain, longing and sorrow, with some particularly poetic lyrics interwoven throughout Superconductor (Long Gone, The Calm, No More, Story of You and I. However, there are plenty of fun, optimistic and positive vibes throughout the other songs on Superconductor, in particular the title track, Yellow Gold, If I Was King and that delicious slice of romance on When Stars Collide.

love,

Spirit

It wouldn't be appropriate for me to post her name like another member did on this site. She's old news and I think it will be up to her or Prince to talk about it, if they ever choose to talk about it. I also think if Prince is really "Long Gone" he should stop doing what he appears to be doing. Did you notice in the new Prince and the NPG promo photo http://prince.org/msg/7/390433 Prince is holding a withered flower? I wonder why? It looks like he's sending a negative message but I know sometimes a picture is just a picture and a song is just a song. Maybe Prince is not trying to send a hurtful message with this new picture. Only he really knows. BTW SpiritOtter, SometimesIwonder seems to be just a member like everyone else but is yet again posting weird comments like they could be straight out of Prince (and Andy's) fantasy playbook. Interesting. Is it not?

Yes, none of you claim to know anything about Prince's life yet I have always found your posts particularly intriguing and interesting since they always seem to be such passionate and deep posts coming from people who know nothing about the man's personal life.

Speaking for myself I have a respect for Prince's entire body of work(good and bad) and that's just it. I don't presume to be to tell him what he should or shouldn't be doing but it's always my decision to go along for the ride. His personal life is just that "his personal life". He's never been upfront about most of it and I don't expect a tell-all biography anytime soon.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

peri1025

Whatever the inspiration for "Long Gone", "Nothing More", "The Calm" etc. could have been is certainly intriguing. They made a great album together and that should be celebrated. They both were in relationships prior to them getting together/meeting. Andy was in a long one with her ex-boyfriend/producer of her first album and P with Bria and presumably with Misty. I think he really loved Bria but for some reason they didn't marry despite her being a JW and willing to take that journey with him. I think it's safe to assume that P and Misty were unable to fully have a relationship because of their schedules. I also heard she had a boyfriend and he was still kickin' it with Bria too. I also remember him saying last year that in 2010 he was going through some stuff so I'm sure that was relationship/health wise perhaps (he was walking with a cane a lot then and was terribly skinny).

I live in LA and I heard from friends who worked at the Forum that he and Andy started hanging out quite a bit after the Africa Channel introduced them. He would give her tickets and such and they'd hang at afterjams. He even called her on stage to dance a couple times. He was definitely juggling her and Misty though and would have them there on different nights. It seemed to be pretty innocent but there was an instant connection. She left her job at G4tv rather suddenly to go on tour with him. I'm sure they found eachother attractive (at least he found her attractive) and being on tour probably just solidified that connection. I'm not presuming to know that they're together for sure just that they hit it off isntantly and as evident from the Europe/Canadian shows he seems a lot happier and they were definitely flirting with eachother alot.

There's obviously a connection there whether it's romantic or not. They seem to enjoy being in eachother's company and he seems inspired (e.g. afro, clothing, songs etc). Also, without AA I don't think we'd be getting so many leaks and stuff posted on Youtube. Again, it's pretty evident he hasn't been this happy in a long time. I'm sure she was just there to make him happy but they remind me of him and Mayte. Yes a larger age gap but they seem to have that brother-sister connection and playfulness that he had with Mayte. I do agree that they play with the media a lot and drop not so subtle hints to get people talking but Andy seems to be pretty private (you don't see AA writing about being on planes with P like Damaris was doing on her blog).

I think the song Superconductor speaks to this where she sings "long as they give us the time, we'll give them a reason to stare..." or something to that effect. Other telling lines might be: "the first time antipate, don't need a reason,it's better to wait" (e.g. celibacy), "...even though they told me this bad romance was just another reason to get in my pants..." (e.g. typical protege).

Just my 2 cents...

But that's my point...
If I get passionate about something, and express it in writing, it is usually about the music. I'm not sure how that translates into theories about his love life, how he worships, or his feelings about things.

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

Been listening to Supecondoctor today, bought it off of iTunes. I gotta say this... this shit is actually jammin quite a bit! And to me it sounds like Prince is reinventing what funk is all about in 2012. We might hear some new funk in 2013/2014 that is influenced by this stuff. It's the tight production and minimalistic yet very effective drum patterns together with the brass band that makes this kinda different from stuff I've heard earlier. Not excatly groundbreaking, but moving forward it is. On some of the songs her vocals are perfect, on some songs she is just annoying. But she is clearly alot more talented than many people on here are saying she is. At best she is incredible. At worst she is a bit annoying. Not bad.

Your response means what now? Yes, I can see that on Amazon's page, I just found it interesting that mention of it has been scrubbed from Allo's own page. Also, Amazon listings that say "currently unavailable" rather than "available for pre-order" oftentimes don't pan out...

My verdict for what it's worth:

1. Superconductor - I thought this was going to be really cool from the intro, but then the verses are a bit daft and take the energy down. It has a strong chorus though, why wasn't this a single by Prince rather than RNR? I could totally hear Prince singing "I wanna be loved.... by a superconductor". I like the lyric 'super conductor', I thought it was going to be a straight up electrical metaphor, but it's much cooler. I can imagine Prince singing this and it sounding like something from D&P era. Some of those lazy rhymes and lyrical duds though like many songs recently - the way it's sung lacks energy - verses I'm talking about here. Very light, fun song though, I like it. Thought she sounded a bit like Gwen Stefani at times on this (dunno whether that's good or bad).

2. People Pleaser - It's OK, it's too long for my liking. These plodding "real funk" songs do bore me a little, I'd rather have something a little freakier going on than a straight up funk'n'horns track. I've had enough about the 2 minute mark tbh. It sounds like something you'd hear on Jools Holland any week, only sang by some middle-aged singer with a comeback album.

3. Long Gone - Bzzzzt. Next. I don't really respond well to this kind of maudlin track when it's done by a grinning new comer: plastic emotion. Again I can imagine it sounding better from Prince, reminds me of.... something else like this, from ONA, Truth or something? Reflection probably, yeah.

4. The Calm - S-N-O-O-Z-E. Horrible chintzy Emancipation synth sounds. Bleurghk. This really sounds Emancipation-y to me, the bass sound especially, I wouldn't be surprised if it's older than 2011/12.

5. Yellow Gold - Cool enough little groove. Comes and goes without offending too much. Could be more than it is, it has a bit of a hook, but it seems like it never really wants to come out and play (for fear of breaking or burying her little tweetypie voice?) N'Dea Davenport, get over here and show her how it's done!

6. Nothing More - The Love We Make? Again it sounds Emancipation-y musically. Meh. Again her voice can't handle this, music says it's trying to be weighty and serious, her voice says pouty poser singing teenage scribbles from her big book of Aura poetry.

7. If I Was King - Closest thing on the album to single material. Should be the song she's performing to promote it, instantly likeable and hooky sing-a-long chorus. Let down by boring first verse and again needs a stronger vocalist to make it come alive. Again could've easily been a far, far better single than RNR if sung by Prince.

8. Story Of You & I - No. Acoustic guitar, solo girl - this is boring and ten a penny in the UK, it's really saturated and boring. I will never ever listen to this again, already forgotten.....

9. When Stars Collide - Another acid jazz type number that needs more to bring out the best in it. The chorus is OK, but again her voices lets it down and reveals it to just be another middling lazy groove with few ideas going on. Anti-climax of an album closer.

Verdict: 6/10
I don't believe the writing credits on this album for a second. It sounds like 100% Prince (you know with Andy doing the change a word take a third thing that pop acts do). This is a pretty strong set really, but missing that one or two really, really strong standout songs, it just needs a bit more pizzazz and a more firey vocalist to make those wishy-wishy flat run of the mill funk grooves really pop and stand out.

Personally I very much agree on most of your points, however even though her voice is more suitable on singer songwriter acoustic guitar songs, this is IMO by far one of the absolutely best protégée albums ever by Prince. It doesn't sound like a rushed project. Back in the days people hated the lack of promotion and passion Prince put in his side projects. This without a doubt doing the opposite. But like always, many of the tracks would be a helluva lot better with Prince doing the funk and more intense tracks.

Most songs on this album are good and there are no terrible ones. The ones I like the most are Long Gone, Yellow Gold and People Pleaser. Long Gone has very beautiful verses which is evident right away on the first listen. The best part is when Andy sings: "turning in my resignation, I'm gone..." Yellow Gold is a fun and catchy track with a self-assured sound. The description for Yellow Gold fits People Pleaser too but Yellow Gold is slightly better because it flows more naturally.

Rated 1-10:

1. Superconductor 5.5
2. People Pleaser 6
3. Long Gone 7.5
4. The Calm 4
5. Yellow Gold 7
6. Nothing More 6
7. If I Was King 5.5
8. Story Of You & I 5
9. When Stars Collide 4

On many of these songs I think it sounds like Prince is working the bass. Ida is an athletic funk bassist, but it's something with the way it's played on this album that really sounds very Princey, and most of the production and arrangement sounds like it's Prince. Could it be Rhonda Smith? If it's neither, then Ida is very good at imitating that sensual funk style.

If she checks the Org. She must have a thick skin. Because they tear her apart on here. Even though The masterPiece blockbuster "SUPERCONDUCTOR" has recieved positive reviews on here. But still at the same time tearing her apart. I feel sorry for her sometimes. But this particular project by a Prince protege' has been the most anticipated & Prince & Andy more than delivered. Even though this is basically a Prince alter ego album....
