Well I've had a couple of proper listens now and overall (like most) I think it's a pretty solid album. Really like the 2 or 3 stripped down acoustic songs which harken back to her UnFresh album and first few collaborations with Prince. I think "People Pleaser" is excellent, that syncopated groove and horn line are funky. Really really love "The Calm" which sounds like it belongs in the same musical family as the slow jams on Emancipation, instrumentation sounds like another Prince song but I can't quite put my finger on it. "Nothing More" as others have said has elements of The Love We Make/Pink Cashmere. I also likened it to Colonised Mind and Janet's Lets Wait A While (that might just be the doo-doo-dood'n-doo-doos at the end!). Final fave is "If I Was King" which to me sounds like a tribute to 1970s Stevie Wonder, complete with synth bass and horns, I can imagine Stevie wailing this one! Good stuff, thank you Andy, the band, and Prince. A fun, sometimes funky, listen.

Agree with all this - I'm actually surprised how much I like this album, especially the acoustic songs.

What do you think the story is with including 'If I Was King'? Its clearly from a mans view-point and there's also a 'king' reference in 'Long Gone' which unsurprisingly indicates P wrote them both (even tho he's not credited with both).

As you say 'If I Was King' is a real 70's type song and reminds me of Sly but seems a bit of an odd inclusion on this album for me even tho I like it, maybe he could have saved it for himself?

I think everyone's hunch on If I Was King is right, Prince probably wrote it but he still may have written it with Andy in mind, I still think it works with a female vocal delivering those lyrics. A little bit of role play fantasy never hurt anyone. wink

One thing I just thought, you'd think the iTunes/Amazon mp3 version would have the PDF digital booklet included wouldn't you?

I enjoyed the album. Kinda funky/soul-lite....People Pleaser is my favourite funky gem on there. I also liked 'Long Gone' which is a nice acoustic number. Couldn't fault her voice but some of the songs are a bit over long in my mind. Still, it's a decent album and I shall continue playing it.
