I loved her album too & appreciate Prince's input. To all the Andy haterz who think Andy can't sing are crazy & are missing out on some good music.

I think it is getting positive reviews on here...Some peeps will of course find anything wrong in a Prince project. But when I saw her per4rm live @ Kimmel. I can see why Prince picked her to convey his music. She has a positive glow about her & doesn't come across as fake & loose like most female singers. She is a real artist & doesn't really need Prince.

I really like this project. To be honest it is much better than 20ten, MPLSound, Planet Earth and even Musicology (although of course each of them had some good songs). Maybe, yes, the title song does not fit so well with the rest of the material (still better than Rock and Roll Affair), but the production is very good throughout the album. Songwriting is good, quite deep (I believe she really listened to some Joni Mitchell music), emotional and doesn’t sound at all 100% Prince-written/influenced. Actually only few songs have recognizable Prince signature sound, but it is much better than for example Romance 1600.

So really if Prince would have released that album then I would say truly that it is the best since TRC or the most accessible since 3121. Good thing about this album is that it does not want to compete with today’s music like 3121 tried; it is not also an old school nostalgia project like Musicology and MPLSound were. It is not mixing old school funk with modern sounding soul either (Planet Earth). It sounds like a singer songwriter confessional album mixed with some up-tempo funk grooves. It sounds like an album, not as a collection of songs that Prince likes to release (exception are of course latest TRC, Lotusflower, N.E.W.S., Xpectation).

So I recommend this album. Really, I was pleasantly surprised and I have to be honest that I was not looking forward to any new Prince project recently; I thought it was good that he didn’t release music recently until I heard Superconductor.

Believe me that I felt bad for Andy when I saw her 2011 at a Prince concert trying to learn the guitar before 40-50 thousand people… and I thought also that she is just another pretty protégé, but at least this album shows that she has potential and that Prince is still capable of (co)producing really enjoyable music.

Nice review, mixing the positive with the negative. I agree with just about everything you said (except about seeing her live, since I never have!)

after buying it and listening to it about 8 times since - I have to say it is quite a solid effort all around.

her voice may be too 'macy grayish' sometimes but it is pleasant actually - she may not have a huge range but a lot of pop singers don't (janet jackson anyone? ).

the musicianship and production are good - I think my least favorite is actually 'superconductor' as it doesn't make a lot of sense and Shelby ruins it for me by the way she sings the song title.

best song IMO is 'nothing more' - beautiful.

if you are hesitant to get it - don't be - it is worth a small investment if you want to hear a good album.

Yes my thoughts exactly. I would add that the worst song on here (and I'm not sure which one that would be) blows away "Rock and Roll Love Affair" by miles! That song is no match for the quality of songwriting, hooks, production, etc. that's on this album.

If Prince had released "Superconductor" I believe it would be very positively reviewed by many critics. It's a mature record, not trying to be anything, just being.

Funny how everyone in Prince world says what Prince needs is a producer... and the truth of the matter is what Prince needs is TO PRODUCE. If he could bring his editing skills (as shown on this project) to his own, his recent work would be so much more sublimely interesting and less heavy handed.

i totally agree. right now her work should be made totally accessible, as in marketing blitz. i hope she gets to taking orders for the new album soon, because i'd like the CD too.

Having listened to this new releases a few times I'm going to say it's a great album and everyone who worked on it should be proud of it. My favorites so far are Superconductor, Long Gone, Nothing More & When Stars Collide. Definitely a good piece of work and very enjoyable from start to finish.

I have to say besides Prince's "MasterPiece" whole contribution to The Time's projects. This has 2 b his best protege project since. He really put his foot in the production & arrangements of EACH song.Not just three I can't wait till Prince sings these songs live himself. Because I know he will. He turned Bria's song "He Licks her" in2 a mindblowing "MasterPiece" live..

One dose of reality. If it was Katy Perry singing Superconductor, I would think it was a catchy piece of shit.

Fortunately that is not representative of the whole album.

So many have said Prince needs inspiration or a muse. Well guess what he found one, Andy Allo! In case anyone hasn't taken notice all of the tracks he's worked on or released since Andy came around have been appreciated far more than the stuff prior to her on here. The work on Larry G's CD got well recieved and the stuff on Andy's CD as well and R&R love Affair is 60/40 on here given the day. You wanted an inspired Prince well here he is! Sorry if the inspiration is what you wanted it to be.

Who do you believe was Prince hurting about then?

It is true that there appears to be quite some depth to the pain, longing and sorrow, with some particularly poetic lyrics interwoven throughout Superconductor (Long Gone, The Calm, No More, Story of You and I. However, there are plenty of fun, optimistic and positive vibes throughout the other songs on Superconductor, in particular the title track, Yellow Gold, If I Was King and that delicious slice of romance on When Stars Collide.

The question should be, "who does Prince not have but was desperately seeking?" By listening to the lyrics in "Long Gone" it seems Prince accepted his loss and is trying to move on. Not only did Prince find a lil plaything to do music with, he found himself a "secret weapon". According to Andy she is his secret weapon. She posted on facebook, "Prince's new secret weapon [he he]". I bet she finds it funny and wants to see her name on the big screen so badly she doesn't care about Prince desperately trying to hurt someone he obviously could not have. Andy is singing about it for Prince. If you recall in the French TV interview she said she was there to keep Prince smiling. I think he was hurting so badly but now The Empire Strikes Back. SMH at triplethreat.

You should listen to Lotusflower and 20TEN to get into the mind of Prince back in 2009 and 2010. I have followed. There was something going on in his personal life. It's in his music. It's posted in threads on this site, many weird posts. Old Bria Valente and Andy Allo threads. There are also some threads removed by moderators. if you didn't read them back then you missed the scandal.

I am surprised andy hasn't done a bit more since the actual album release, may be once the physical copy has been released, though she i sprobably on a break, must have been exhausting the on/off release date and promo concerts etc.
