I've heard "Shoulda Coulda Woulda" and "Movin'"... The former is a slow tempo burner, while the latter is very up tempo. "He's a musician's musician..."

"Raise Up" was just listened to... very tight, mid tempo, and funky.
This is the most Prince-like track... actually like a morph between Sly and the Family Stone, Parliament, and Prince.

I hope it's better than Gcs2000. The ballads on that make me cringe.

Listened to the entire album its good. Not as cheesy imo as GSC2000. I'm not as much a fan of Larry G's vox but the the music here is excellent and all out very funky and old school all the way. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Since both "Superconductor" and "Raise Up" are being released in the same month, anybody want to take odds on which album will outsell the other? 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

it seems some in this thread have priority time travel access to tunes not yet released...................
either that or larry graham and prince have pseudonyms on here

it's out there but not as conspicious and i believe only in one place. Someone must have an advance copy or it's an early mix. Anyways, I will defi be buying this album it's funky! I'm not a fan of Larry G's voice but like I said this recording is funk. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

"I’m gonna add some bottom... so that the dancers just can’t hide!" bellows Larry Graham over his bass intro to Sly & The Family Stone’s "Dance To The Music," one of the all-time greatest dance tracks. Sly was the bomb and all, but for Graham, that legendary lineup was only the beginning. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

dayum. that IS funky! Definitely harkens back to early GCS rather than the GCS 2000 which was pretty disappointing. This one rolls with songs that remind me why I istened imn the first place. The whole thing plays to Larry's strength as a live player, which is good. I like that the production is not overly slick. The throwback feel is good too.

Listened to the whole thing this morning. It features a very tight band, it's funky as hell, I like it a lot. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

P blessed one track with his vocals but the Purple One's influence is restricted. He is still on this rehab thing.

Old School Funk all over, but nothing to write home about.
"Raise Up" is the most modern and Princey track. All in all rather boring except for the nice guitar work at the end (with its "When I lay my hands on U" sound).

ugh, that is the most plastic track on the record..live drums would have been SO much better. Geuss I like it with a little raw sound on it and it's better than 95 percent of what passes for funk anymore. Can you point me to bands doing it better cause I'd love to find them. Bootsy's last one was killer and I just found a band called Snarky Puppy that lays down some groove but not totally funk. JD Blairserves it up on 2012? but funk seems watered down most of the time with contemporary bands. [Edited 7/8/12 19:54pm]

^Although I have a clear vision of how modern funk should sound like, I unfortunately don't have too much insight into what's out there, sorry.
As far as popular music is concerned I think Moloko did a great job in combining funk and more contemporary electronic sounds for example. [Edited 7/8/12 23:36pm]

Moloko was a wonderful experiment, particularly the first 2 albums (later they followed a more "accessible" path). I remember their early days: they were really avant-garde back then. I don't think Larry is aiming at that, he just wants to be old school, and therefore I don't think it's really fair to compare a 60 years-old veteran with what was then a bunch of hot newcomers in their 20's, who were embracing their generations' new sounds. It's like comparing the Prince from 1982 to the James Brown of 1995.

Zannaloaf came up with a question. I've never intended to compare Larry Graham with Moloko.
It had more to do with Prince's funk approach. "Raise Up" tries to sound kind of modern, but doesn't really succeed. [Edited 7/9/12 12:45pm]

Not so sure about the "When I lay my hands on U" comparison anymore, could be "Cybersingle" instead...

OOOH could we have a "New Power Pack" Part Deux? If only Prince had some sort of room where he kept tapes of finished songs that could be put together to form an album. Hmmm...
