I apologize for my condescending behavior. You are most likely correct that Prince probably felt betrayed seeing the 2 together. My statement was directed more toward that sentiment that Mayte can even touch the wrong that has been done to her. The creep factor in buying a house like that is sorta off the charts I will admit that I wouldn't even go there! But a person finds them, selves in that position with things that go bump in the night, best get to prayin' and castin' stuff out...at least until you can get yourself out
Chile with Andrea's place, that's that modern architecure some people are so crazy about. It's not my personal style at all - but within the confines of that kinda architectural "look", it's a nice house, fairly pricey, for people that are into that.
...but I can't do those prison looking houses either. I need a roof or some shingles or something !

All this talk about that "Hollywood exes" show, has made me curious. However, I'm unable to access these online Vh1 broadcasts due to where I live. Does anyone know how I could watch this show outside the US ? Thank you !

I finally had to watch. Wow, I feel for Mayte. EVERYTHING about Prince is larger, no BEYOND larger than life. Grammy winning, Oscar winning, ultra-Seductive, uber-talented, odd/but good-looking, musical genius, extraordinaire, invites an 18 year old virgin into his camp and quickly puts her on this GIANT magnificent pedestal. He makes her the EPICENTER for his creativity and promotion for his creativity for SEVERAL years. Makes her the principal dancer, the main lady of the NPG, writes songs for her/about her, makes her the center of his music video & album concepts. She is SO special that this great man, who is also equally known for his decade+ womanizing, decides to give HER (of all the women in his life) a ring and ACTUALLY walk down the isle with her. She has two bad pregnancies with the love of her life. With one full term child that she held, now cold in the ground, she is convinced to hide her feelings about her devastating loss by the love of her life and go on a promotional tv tour for his new cd. He eventually turns his back on her because "he can't deal with bad things or real emotions", the whole rocket ride ends and he moves on like none of it ever happened and marries someone else. Though I thought Mayte had moved on, I'm not surprised that she hasn't. The only other person who was very young and had that kind of super experience with an iconic star is Priscilla Presley and she NEVER remarried after Elvis. I like Mayte, but she should not be on this show. She obviously has not had any real closure with Prince. At the very least it seems like he has not acknowlege her contribution to him or apologized for being a dick like she really mattered to him. He messed her up. Love musician, buck the system Prince, can't stand how he fucks around with women's heads. For anyone who says "well she should just get over it", I tell everybody, you probably need Jesus or an exorcism after getting close to Prince! WHO THE FUCK COULD MOVE ON FROM THAT SHIT!
Side note, that was WEIRD lunch with Manuela. There is way more to this Prince saga. Not going to get the truth, not with this show.

Of course anyone would have sympathy for 'parents' who lost a child, as both Prince and Mayte experienced that loss, so it is not a one-sided situation, it apparently was a sad situation that both 'parents' experienced. How they grieved is private, unless either one chooses to share publicallyhow they grieved , like Mayte shared a little on the show.
As a matter of fact, back in 2007, Mayte was at Prince's opening weekend at the 3121 club in Vegas, and he walked across the stage over to the table where Mayte was sitting, and they gave each other a very, big hug in front of everybody who was there that night. So apparently they had some type of mutual friendhip going on long after their divorce, and besides I have never read, anywhere where Prince made any rude or disrespectful comments about Mayte after their divorce.
Whatever transpired after 2007, where at this present time, she claims they have no contact right now, doesn't necessarily mean they are enemies, and she didn't make it sound like they were. Mayte specifically stated during an earlier interview, that she will not reveal anything private or disrespect Prince's privacy regarding details of their relationship/marriage. She said her purpose on the show is about her moving on after her divorce, not about telling details of their relationship to her audience. That's just about it.

I actually think it's kind of neat to see a Prince ex (not including the actual musician exes) that has tried to step out and create a career for herself. Hollywood is a very difficult place to navigate, and the fact that this woman has been able to work small but consistent roles in television says a lot about her tenacity. Most of my friends in film and tv in Cali and New York are on the other side of the camera or in exec positions now, but trust ,they all went through phases in their early careers when they were scratching for agents, pounding the pavement, trying to get auditions and parts as actors and folks, it's freaking. So the fact that this woman managed to secure re-curring tv roles, even if they weren't marquee billing is an achievement in and of it self and I say, Garcia girl, keep doing you and stay on your grind.
Beyond that, I just like shows that are geared to women of a certain age (35+), and I like the angle and theme of following women who are divorcees, on new paths, growing in different directions. It's very "older chick demographic" friendly. [Edited 7/2/12 11:01am]

As for their tragedy being between them, she's now gone public with portions of THEIR life together, so now she's fair game for comentary from anyone. Now, of coarse both parents experienced the death of their child, I'm only concerned with the parent who seems unable to move on from the pain of the situation. I don't feel sorry for Prince. He's touring and doing his thing. I'm sure he grieved to himself at the time, and I felt bad for him at the time, but he did bail on her and turned is focus towards himself which I think was shitty. Doesn't mean I think they are enemies, I didn't say they were enemies. I actually thought they were friends before I saw her on access hollywood. Great they had a hug in 2007...woo woo! The show is to show how these women have moved on, but she clearly has not moved on from him. I thought she did. Her sadness and remoteness from the rest of the group is very palpable. She had an extraordiary experience with an extraordinary man, she was doing way more that shopping at gucci, buying diamonds, and driving a Rolls, this show is not for her, but hopefully she will gain something strong & positive out of it.

Of course because she shared a bit of her feelings, that people will comment and relate, especially parents who lost a child, when she shared that few minutes of her life. Although she shared her feelings on that, doesn't mean she means for it to be an open invitation to bash her ex or for his fans to make all kinds of slanderous accusations, about what may have occurred during their marriage, and assume he did not support her emotionally during the loss of their child, when none of his fans were behind closed doors to see how they dealt with that loss 'together' as parents.
Also, if she hasn't moved on from him, then that is something she has to work on emotionally and spiritually, because no one else can fix that for her but Mayte, no matter how fans or viewers watching the show feel about it. It also doesn't mean their exes shouldn't move on with their lives either, after the divorce. Not to mention, the producers more than likely want these women to mention their exes' names, for the ratings too, as much as possible, as a way to keep viewers glued to the show, thinking these women will dish out dirt about their exes. The show title speaks for itself, so expect that these women have to identify with the title of the show, as they share how they've moved on since they became 'exes'.

In reference to your last paragraph, you have a point. There's been a lot of doors opening for women 35+ on television, in these type shows, since all these Housewives' shows started, and now a lot of celeb wives/ex-wives/girlfriends are getting in the game, which is quite different, than when reality shows the "Real World" catered to a younger demographic, and focused on the lives of young people between the ages of 18-25 year olds.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Interesting point. I never noticed that before. I guess I have a greater appreciation for the "wives" shows. Because it is natural that Real World is about discovering yourself, your sexuality and have very young people etc. Because that is what young people are all about discovery, adventure etc.
Likewise, older women usually are dealing with marriages, divorce, children, bankruptcy, infidelity... because these are things that most older women are dealing with.
So I guess I like the "wives" shows because regardless of how classy or trashy they act out their drama, it is something that my demographics are experiencing. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

I always thought Nicole looked a little "chiseled" (I just can't say manly, just a little sharper features) when she was with EM.
But now, she looks BETTER older than when she was younger. Her facial features have softened to look more feminine. And she has always carried herself with an air of grace and poise.
Her fashion style is better than movie star celebrities that I am sure hire personal stylists to cultivate their style. Those celebs should hire Nicole.
I think EM was also crazy to allow anything break up his family. I don't think Nicole was a gold digger. I don't think she would be bothered with broke man or one of modest means. BUt she had 5 kids with EM. A gold digger would get 1 - 2 kids really quick then break camp. You don't stay for more than a decade with a whole mess of kids unless you are in it for the long haul.
Same for the ex Mrs. Kelly. She would have still been with R kelly if things were a little more tolerable.
That baseball player's ex wife... 1 kid in 3 years and then she was out... same for the ex Mrs. Smith...

Ikr! Her, Mani, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Kim Porter are what I would refer to as "handsome" women.
It's a look that would be attractive regardless of gender.
As for the golddigger statement, I would agree to some parts of your logic. But, then I think of Shaunie O'Neal and that's where I disagree.

I'm not that familiar with the Oneals deal. I was under the impression that Shaunie was his high school sweetheart and had baby before he turned pro.I guess I got that all wwrong? ? He had been in the pros 10 years prior to them meeting.
The divorce was primarily due to his cheating and her being a "crackhead" who was "stealing" money from him. At least, that what was going around the rumor mill back then.

Oh wow. I really got that one wrong. Now with that in mind, stashing away money does seem like a gold digger move. I just always thought the the girl was smarter than Shaq gave her credit for and she just got the best of him.
So she was married for 10 plus years and have a mess of kids ?
Is see what your original statement meant. Yeah, Shaunie is the exception of that rule.

I would just like to say, for the record, that I take back my "love" for R.Kelley's ex- My God, after last nights show and watching her cry for the gagillionth time, "I just want to DANCE, Maaaaaaannnnn!" I realized how ridiculous she is. I was really loving her on episode one, but after last nights show.......I even think Mayte thought she was being ridiculous- Mayte just kind of stood there as she broke into tears for the millionth time, looking uncomfortable. It's also starting to make me uncomfortable that Mayte keeps bringing up the baby- I know it's a horrible thing and I'm not saying she should get over it, but it's starting to feel like the producers have prodded her to talk about it every time they want a crying scene and it's starting to feel a little......I don't know.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I feel we've hit the real "reality" show status now in this new episode. The lines (or parts) have been clearly drawn and we know who's who.
Andrea is the crier
Mayte - is the one who lost the baby
Nicole - is the elegant one who has moved on 100%
Jose wife - is clearly the class tramp
and Sheree is trying to be everyone's therapist when her own situation clearly needs a lot of work.
Seeing Mayte bring up the baby over and over this week made her seem a lot more shallow than she'd been coming across the week before. Plus what was with the dolphin thing? It was all much more forced.

I think you all are right. I am starting to feel like the producers of the show are manipulating to make things more interesting for ratings... and things seem a little staged.
Like the baseball player now just up and leaving everything to go to Boston. Just BS. My thoughts are how could you pull your daughter's feelings into this for some forced drama.
And Sheree not moving with her husband. I don't believe she should just because her husband is the man....
but what does she do in LA that she could not do in San Diego. Her son is in COLLEGE. Don't they have dorm rooms on college campuses. Maybe he commutes to school. And as far as starting her business... wouldn't it be easier to commute to LA the every 2 months or so that she needs to have a meeting with her chemist... versus commuting every weekend to visit her man.
Just seems odd. But he sho is fine enuff.
I agree Andrea just needs to get on with it. But she seems like she is an emotional type person. Highly emotional and a little fragile. Not sure how she managed to grow up in the South side of Chicago and not be a little tougher.
And I don't get all the crying from Andrea. I want to say to her 'what the fuck are you crying for?" I bet her assistant... what is his name "Tony?" I think he looks at her sometimes and think the same thing. Like he said, you live in a fabulous life but you also live in REALITY. You can't go around crying about the same thing... or "folks gone think you a little touched in the head."
Nicole seem most well adjusted of the bunch. Honestly. I always felt bad for the other woman that EM had a kid with around the time he met Nicole. It was put out there that the other woman wasn't as pretty, refined, light complected as Nicole and that EM was a bit color struck.
So I felt a little sorry for his other baby mama. and I remember reading an article about Nicole and EM before they got married and thought Nicole was a little like Mani... clever, self assured etc when she beat out her competition.
But seeing her in this show makes me think she was just better all the way around. Probably more classy, more pretty, more poised, more confident.
Nicole is really making those other women look like basket cases... and really Nicole is the one who gave up a career and had more time and effort invested... and at the same time she has moved on.

(Bolded part) I hear you on that, but what did I tell you guys a number of posts ago? They have to keep drama and emotional ties to their audience, in order to keep the show interesting, and it did seem a bit out of place when Mayte kept bringing up the loss of her child in the most recent episode, several times, and it looked like she was getting sick of Andrea's emotional episodes, when she came out and said it's been 12 years since her divorce and loss and that she put it all behind her is moving on. But then 3 minutes later, she brought it up again, when Andrea had another emotional episode, and out of the blue, Mayte seemed like she ignored everything Andrea was saying, and brought up her baby again. Just seemed kind of odd at that moment, like they were both having a 'My story is sadder than yours competition'.
Also, what was up with that 'Big Sexy' character who is supposedly Mayte's friend, who accompanied Nicole and her friend, when she went on search of the African guy who sells the beads she was looking for? Big Sexy could be that same guy calls himself 'meltedman' who posts on Mayte threads on the Org, who seemed to know a lot about the show and what was going to be on it before it aired. You never know, but I was laughing at his name 'Big Sexy', 'cause I was trying to figure out...... Big Sexy what?
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yeah. Big sexy what? haha. I feel you on that. As for the other stuff, yeah I'm not liking the constant bringing up of the baby. It IS starting to look like a competition for saddest story line. I mean, I have had losses and awful things happen to me and I still hurt from them but I only talk about them with people I love and trust, not your everyday conversation. I feel she is being manipulated by the shows producers to keep talking about it and milking it and I don't like that.

One thing that we might want to keep in mind though, is that reality shows are generally filmed very fast. Normally the events that we see stretching out over several weeks and episodes in real time have only happened within just several days. Granted, it is quite true that while not scripted at all, after the producers check what a cast member has on their regular ole agenda, they will stage additional locations (if the casts' personal schedules are not interesting enough to them) and "prompt" members to address issues or pivotal points of their lives in conversation; if you push the right button in a person, drama is sure to ensue and no one will have to do too much on either side, really.
I think in many cases it can be easy to prompt certain conversations and responses from women because we are naturally more emotive creatures, and quite often just want to be heard. I think this would be even more the case when you've come from a formative environment in your younger years where the male had the money, the power, and your role was to be in the background. That being said, my guess is not that Garcia or Kelly was being prompted to drag out their life disappointments over many weeks time, vs. conversations that would have taken place over some days, and those conversations being easy to prompt as emotions are very raw states of being, and it can take a person a minute to get up off a deep seated issue that they've suddenly brought to the forefront of their lives (and they don't just stop talking about it after 72 hours).
As for the competition for who ends up with the saddest story line, while that's not a theme with all women who gather in groups together (large or small) I do notice that it is somewhat of a phenomenon and seems to take place amongst women who, well, have issues. I have girlfriends I can get together with and they've come to closure with tragedies or disappointment, so that they are fine with never mentioning their stories after an initial pouring out of the heart. Then, I've met other women who while nice, always have to outdo each other with who's suffering the most. It's just a competition thing for women trying to define themselves. They just don't realize how sad it is to define yourself by your tragedies (or conversely, your successes). Although I still will say again that witnessing someone who has gone through something similar to Mayte's experience ---that the loss of a child is so incredibly heavy and spirit-crushing...I gotta give the pass for any woman having difficulty letting that go. Rather have Garcia as the resident cat lady on the show, talking about her loss now over a couple weeks, vs. the public having ended up with a disturbed woman who got arrested for losing her mind stealing someone's baby from a local hospital.

Sheree is REAL good at leading Mayte into answering questions. Every conversation they have is a sly interrogation, yet Mayte's completely oblivious. Sheree's going to get all types of information out about Prince before the season is over.
Also, after viewing Mayte up close on this show, I can see now why Prince is so interested in the poorly skilled Andy Allo. She looks like a knock-off version of Mayte in the face. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee
