When someone comes to Jesus Christ and surrenders their life to HIM he or she becomes a new creature. The old life or old ways are gone and the individual then lives solely for and to please God. Persons who do not believe in God and that only Jesus can save will not understand. It is very difficult if not impossible to understand the very real transformation that an individual experiences when one accepts Christ as their personal savior and lives for HIM and spreads the gospel. The only way to understand Denise Matthews is to taste the living waters of life that only Jesus Christ who died on the cross can bring. She is not crazy, she has been transformed by the renewing of her mind in Christ Jesus. Things that are spiritual can only be understood when walking in the Spirit and not with the carnal mind. What appears weird, strange or abnormal to people is not to Almighty God. Now, as far as the Facebook incident, I would send her a private message explaining to her briefly what happened and that due to your privacy settings Tags (that we cannot control) was pasted to youir page. It's not that you are apologizing or that you need to validate yourself. It is for her to understand that she deleting you due to someone else posting a sexually suggestive picture on your page, that's all. At the end of the day, Facebook is not the real world as we know it. Take Care.

I know Denise personally and let me just say that she is on a different plane. I've had many conversations with her and she is who she is. She has her convictions and she is true to what she believes. There were times where I disagreed with her but nevertheless, I think deep down in her heart she is still a good person who holds strong to her values. I am not making excuses for her, but I think she is still trying to get away from the whole Vanity thing and like I told her once: No matter what you do, people will always relate to you because of Vanity and that's something that she has to accept and live with.

BTW... I am a Christian and she defriended me too. So, I think she just cleaned out her account of mostly "Prince fans" and people who she didn't think she couldn't relate to.
I found no offence in that.

I don't think its fair for her to be judged so harshly. She isn't fanatical, just passionate. Also, she is an evangelist and in active ministry and accountable to many because she has been placed in a position of accountability to many. In her church she is held to a higher standard because she is is a leadership role.
People look up to her, and she has to stay right because she doesn't want to mislead anyone or be seen as a hypocrit. It is added pressure and all her posts in FB were uplifting and inspiring. Not judgemental at all.
She is just like all normal evenagelists I know and she is serious about making sure she shares the good news she enjoys in her salvation.
Its a lifestyle she takes seriously is all... nothing wrong in that IMHO. She ain't no half-stepper like a certain other someone who claims JW.

I respect anybody who can find a higher power and live as such . That's always a great thing but my issue with her is that she was once apart of pop culture and her movies and music will forever be out there , so that she have to realize that and accept that :
A few years ago , she went on a crusade to shut certain websites down that contained images of her and always saying how she would never use the name Vanity for profit etc etc etc :
But then she turns around and write a book called Blame It On Vanity and I'm sure she have received money for the sales of the book :
It's fine and cool to have found your spiritual path , much love to that , BUT , to try to silence people is another thing : She sent a friend of mine a very nasty threatening letter from her lawyer . For a Christian , it could've been done another way . It was straight up bullying :
Onelove to Apollonia , who is as real , connected , & down to earth as anyone could be : Beautiful heart , beautiful spirit , and understands the reality of having been apart of musical history :
" He's All Black, He's All White, Everybody's Gotta Jam 2Nite, Limouzine ".

Yeah, I didn't like it when she named her book ,"Blame it on Vanity" when she's trying to distance herself from that. Also, whenever she's on TBN ( or that annoying Robia Lamorte) they always intro their appearance with a bit about how they used to dance or date Prince, blah blah blah. If you want to distance yourself, distance yourself, don't use Prince's name and your ex "dirty self" to promote yourself now. With that being said, I think Denise Matthews is sincere and it's not fake bs, just a little off the deep end is all.

That's kind of a blanket statement. You don't know what anyone is like behind closed doors, who is to say she is not half-steppin it. Every religion has half-steppers, Prince is no different than the millions of people out there that don't practice 100% of their faith. They hear what they want to hear and they take from it what they want to take to suit their every day life.
Just like she turned to Christianity after she hit rock bottom, Prince found Jehovah when he hit what he considered to be his rock bottom for.
So if she is happy, more power to her and if prince is happy with JW then more power to him. But I ain't even gonna to lie, from personal experiance Born Again Christians are no joke

Honestly? I wouldn't read a whole lot into it. A lot of times when people get religious they overdo it for a while - some longer than others.
They usually balance out eventually.
I bet at some point in the future she'll feel like a jackass about it and stop being so anal over minor things.
Don't take it personally, just conclude that she's kinda in the deep end of the religious stuff right now and that eventually she'll calm down.
My sister was the same way when she first decided to try on religion a few years ago. Church tons of days every week, NO secular music...

many people who get extreme in their beliefs (evangelical) seem crazy. That's becuse they stop paying attention to context and just use the scriptures to rant on anything and judge eveyone like they are in charge. I've seen it...paging through the Bible grabing quotes out of one page and jamming them up next to another. Old Testament, New Testament. Who cares as long as it supports whatever over the top stuff you are selling. Can you tell this kind of thing pisses me off??? lol. CONTEXT is important...unless you are more inportant the word.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Sounds like she has demons. Not trying to generalize but I notice most people who read scriptures instead of just as Zannaloaf says stopped paying attention to the context usually are ones who don't know how to let God have his way and they go off in tangents that sometimes don't make sense. I pray for her because she's been through a lot.

this is why these people scare me.It's as if they close their minds completely.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
surely these are your hurt feelings talking. course she isnt acting like a "normal person" - most normal peoplenact like or actually are godless heathens. she has made it clear she is not one anymore. like paintedladysaid, itsnot about hypocracy or denial of your past. its about "i will not live this way anymore. which means i cannot be around play around peoplewho do.
think of it like anaddict who has completed treatment.they cannot and will not be around their old life or thier old friends: its not denial of their past, its a necessary rejection of all thethings that remind them of the past. Prince #MUSICIANICONLEGEND

What double standard? Sounds to me like there are certain things she won't tolerate on her page - period. I think her "unfriendings" sound pretty consistent. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Double standard is when you want to call your book Black Box but you realise that it wouldn't sell shit so you name it Blame it on Vanity.it's a pure calculation ,she want to distance herself from her former alter ego yet you base your latest product Blame it on Vanity.

Another double standard....
trashing someone on one website while wanting them to friend you on another website.
actually that would be more along the lines of hypocrisy.... but you get what I am sayin'.
Maybe Ms. Matthews isn't so "outta her mind" after all for de-friending you. [Edited 5/2/12 14:43pm]

Maybe Ms. Matthews isn't so "outta her mind" after all for de-friending you. [Edited 5/2/12 14:43pm] you are wrong.i wanted to be her friend.when i first added her she told me that i'm beautiful and asked was i french or italian.we discussed about her movies. She couldn't believe i seen Neon City.but after a while she started sending me creepy messages like if you have sex and you're not married you'll get Aids. She said Bible is basic instruction before you leave the earth .then she erased me for the first time because i posted a Prince song with explicit lyrics, then i apologized and she said we'll keep in touch via inbox because she can't add me instantly because 700ppl wait to be her friends.and she accepted my request and after a few days she erased me again.i could have kiss her ass and explain her that she was wrong.i said to her that she didn't change, she just changed one extreme for another. No, that isn't a double standard - when the two things happen 30 years apart.
Vanity sang those lyrics. She isn't Vanity, anymore. What part of that don't you get? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Listen i don't wanna argue.we all are or had been young and did foolish thing so was Denise. i don't think Denise is crazy like having mental disorder, but i think some of her acts are crazy i don't wanna say stupid. It's not important that she erased me,i mean who am i in hr world ,nobody. But i find crazy that she erased Jill and Apollonia for the similar reasons . And i find all the people who had their time together wheater it's workin or love association and after some period they disrespect eachother being crazy . I hate when your basic interpretation of religion make you stray away from your friends. And that's my right to do it.And i can express my feelings here because i'm here for a long time ,it's like second home to me in a way,so you can interpretate anything i say the way you like, just don't narrow mind all the things i said with :What part of that don't you get?
p.s. People change with time but that don't mean the change is always in a good direction. [Edited 5/2/12 18:50pm]

Facebook is only ONE way to communicate with other folks and it doesn't mean she has cut them off entirely. She may only want to exchange with them in a more personal way, on the phone perhaps and that's IF they are even friends.
We should be careful not to speculate or assume much about people's lives that we do not live.

Like I said, I was defriended myself, and I AM a Christian. Denise is an Evangelist, and is very cautious of what she allows to be placed on her page. Its not about judgement but more about keeping herself strong and without temptation.
I didn't take it personally, nor would I speak on what someone did to someone else. I know there is always a reason to why people do things even if I may not agree.
Denise is a woman now in her mid-50's and in a different place and people look up to her in her church and in her ministry, so she is held to a higher standard and careful not to send a wrong message that may encourage young believers to do something they should not.
She will er on the safe side and if you still communicate with her then it shows she harbors no ill will to you.
I think its best you just let that one go and not personalize it anymore.
