Cold, seriously your something else. Like the way you flip this on me too when you've been the one constantly going on about Jesse more than anyone else on this board and bitching and whining on how Jesse should and shouldn't conduct himself online, and making up shit about his mental health like you know him. And yes I do care about Jesse because I like him as an artist, and yes I don't care about facebook coz I'm not on it and what? Is that a problem for you? I'm saying cut him some slack and let him be, if you can. FUNKNROLL! "February 2014, wow". 'dre.

You really need to calm down. I don't even come close to the negative comments many have made here about Jesse on any threads related to his first comment on FB, where they called him all kinds of nasty names and other bs. I didn't do that. My comments are constructive criticism, not bashing, and you can't go around telling people here to stop commenting on a public site, when you're saying that your favorite artist can post whatever he wants on a public, networking site:lol: That kind of contradicts your message. If any of the comments bother you, then why bother reading them? You're the one who chose to read my comments and others here;no one is forcing you. I seriously doubt Jesse is losing sleep over anything posted on this site, so it makes no sense for you to get that upset over comments you have 'no control' over. It's called 'choice.' I also doubt anyone here commenting about him, has anything personal against Jesse. I certainly don't, but that doesn't mean we're off limits from giving constructive criticism of him either.
If he puts out a solo album today, and people comment on some of the tracks, are you going to tell them they're not allowed to comment on music they purchase from him? That would be a bit 'unrealistic' don't you think? Again, no hard feelings. Enjoy your day.

Do you really consider all of the negative, disparaging and hateful things said about Jesse Johnson on this site and his FB page to be 'constructive criticism'? When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I'm sure you're smart enough to know the difference between 'negative, disparaging and hateful things' vs 'constructive criticism' without relying on someone else to tell you the difference between them. Have a great evening. [Edited 2/12/12 16:43pm]

Good try with the insults. I'm laughing because you're such a contradiction. You complain about people making negative comments and attacking Jesse, yet you waste no time doing the same thing to others you complain about. Don't worry you'll get over me.

You are absolutely correct on that. See you next Tuesday. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Nice try too with your condescending sarcasms, but don’t try to keep turning this BS on me, you’re the one that keeps on and on wanting to tear down Jesse with your ‘constructive criticism’ not me FUNKNROLL! "February 2014, wow". 'dre.

This coming from the guy who all but said everything from A to Z for 3 months to undermine O7ven's latest cd and shows to make Nelson Rogers look far superior to them.
Oh and yes homie weren't you the one talking shit about his Verbal Penetration sales and asking where all his fans at. Now you're doing a complete 360 i suppose because it's bringing the original group to a halt and i suppose that feeds your King Nelson trip you always on. Wow unfuckingbelievable! Considering I actually bought Condensate twice(iTunes/physical copy) and also the #Trendin single I don't see how I was undermining anything. I gave them more than enough support till it looked like it was derailing all on it's own. Now they got do earn that paper with some action!
As for Verbal Penetration I can't speak upon it and never have because I don't own it and haven't heard it as of yet. You must have me confused with someone else.
As for Prince y'all keep dragging him into this situation not me. Bad marketing is bad marketing no matter who does it.
The only point I was making with the statement you responded to above was that Jesse Johnson made his rant and cursed out his naysayers and the collective response on here was "Oh hell no, I know he ain't talking to me like that!" If you didn't feel he was addressing you(and not just you) then why be offended by his words. Especially when your argument is that he shouldn't be offended by others words. Bottom line from what I get from this is fans can dish it out, but they can't take it when it comes back to them. And for those that didn't jump on FB or the .org or wherever and cuss Jesse out, etc., about him leaving the 07 then I guess the post wasn't directed to them.

I can understand why Jesse's mad. I just wished his initial post about him not doing anything with O7 wasn't so cryptic but his explanation in his current post of how things broke down does make sense. Least he's out there. But social networking is the devil.

For real. In WHAT universe is a professional musician supposed to shell out their own expenses for a non-giggin' band? People on this board are ignorant as hell and as you correctly pointed out clearly have zero idea on how a working, giggin' musician's business life is structured. I'm not even going to touch the poor idiot's comment (lifted from FB) who said Jesse was playing background for D'angelo. Lawd, folks are comical 'round here

I'm still not sure why everyone is mad at Jesse. When the O7 did a few shows last fall people commented on how the band were not doing enough new songs and how everyone can't wait for the tour to start. It appears that Jesse wanted the same things no?
He wants more new songs and wanted to get the show on the road, but it appears the other members (I'm guessing Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis) probably were too slow to act. If anyone should be mad at anybody, it should be the members, whoever they are, that didnt seem pressed to get things started. Jesse will look like the bad guy because he spoke out, but don't be fooled by the other members playing innocent and acting like their angels either. Like Jesse said, if we only knew how vile the truth is.........The fans complain how they waited umpteen years for a reunion, cd and show, but I get the feeling that Jesse is not the one who wants to keep fans waiting.....

So let's run this down one more time:
1. He checked for gigs for a full 3 months worth of booking time & there was nothing on the table? 2. He asked when the band's first royalty was due and the answer was "I don't know"? 3. No preemptive measures were being taken via sponsors or tour plans to recoup whatever he invests in in gear, travel and wardrobe costuming for O7 related activities, and he's not rolling in $ like Terry & Jimmy 'nem, too?
Sorry, but Boo-B**ch, BYE . This is when you start doing other gigs. I don't care if it's O7 or your local gala band that plays Bar Mitzvahs. This is what any thinking, rational working music professional would do, especially when you have to keep a roof over your head and have a family to feed

See when he BROKE IT DOWN like that, then I feel where he's coming from. It's stupid to tell your boy that you don't know if money is coming in. Usually if I put all this work with you and I don't get my money, don't think I'm gonna stick around with you and pretend everything is kosher when you know all that money I spent could've been used to pay my rent.

I'm a working artist too, but honestly, Jesse does need to quit whining. It's not like he was living on the streets or something before the O7 reunion came along. Apparently, he was making money some kind of way, so I think that he's just griping about the money out of greed. And even if this whole thing was the case, it is extremely classless and unprofessional to cuss your fans out (that you need in order to get that money that you so desperately need ). As a fan, I really don't care what's happening with his money, I just want a good show. And now he's name-dropping/dragging D'Angelo's name into this...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
None of us can really assess what his financial needs are so that is a mute point. Secondly I don't think he was cussing out his fans as a whole, just ones posting negative comments about him that he feels were untrue or uncalled for, and I believe its his right IMO. Lastly you say you want a good show, again, it seems that Jesse wanted the same thing, but the other fellas were slow to act on it. I'm just guessing like everyone else but those are my thoughts.

See, this is the thing Timbo, not only can I understand, I can even agree if dude needs to get paid or even if he simply wanted the band to go in a different direction...but that wasn't what he initially said.
Again, what Jess is saying NOW bears little resemblence to the rather bizarre and cryptic fb posts he was making last month. Apparently some folks didn't take note of how the whole thing initially unfolded. Several people have stated time and again that their main objection is the WAY Jess departed, NOT his right to do so.
While a person is certainly free to seek whatever situation best suits their financial and creative needs, there is still a right and a wrong way to do things, period.
Why not simply discuss your departure with the people you actually work with, issue a joint press release and be done with it? I really think that doing it that way would have greatly reduced the amount of negative feedback.
I do not own a fb account but if I did it probably wouldn't be the best idea to use it to quit my job. As far as the negative feedback goes, I'm also pretty sure that I'd put people on notice that rude comments will be deleted with a quickness...social networking is the devil indeed, Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it... well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men." - Strother Martin, Cool Hand Luke
1) The confusion is what was he quiting? There was not anything going on. Why make any statement on a public forum at all? What was he hoping to accomplish?
2) Royalty from what? Sales from that album has not covered its shipping cost yet. An accounting will reveal he has to send in another check.
3) This may be the only valid point he made. On the other hand...I just came back from N.A.M.M. a few weeks ago. I saw a LOT of performers there working out their OWN sponsorship/endorsement deals. Jesse has been playing Fenders since the 1970's. How the hell does Avril Lavigne have an endorsement deal with Fender and Jesse does not?
Also, as a working musician, (it seems like every other person on here is), I understand the conflict felt when a phone call comes for conflicting gigs. "Which one was booked first...Who has the easier time finding a replacement...which one is higher profile...which one pays more...which is better connected...which will lead to a better next one...?" And the list goes on. But this is not the situation he was facing. There were NO CONFLICTING GIGS. He quit because he wanted to quit. Fine, but don't make it out like the O7 was keeping him from something else, because that is not the case. He went on Facebook and sowed his obscure seeds of confusion because he wanted people to talk about it so he could then come out with "his side" of things. Well, he wanted it, he got it.

Sorry I'm little confused. What does #3 have to do with the current situation. and as far as conflicting gigs, how do we know any of this without knowing the facts of that conference call?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Number 3 was in response to the statement about no sponsorship deals having been done. I don't know who is managing the group, but this should be in place. I agreed with Jesse on this point, and took it one step further by asking the relevant question as to why he does not have his own sponsorship deal in place. This makes touring MUCH easier with an equipment sponsor such as Peavey, Fender or Marshal orproviding the backline at every venue, you can have the sound man cordinate with the house for the frontline.
Jesse told us that in the call, he asked were there gigs set up for December and he received the reply no. He then asked about January and February and received the same answer. He did this so he could "black out" dates that would be in conflict. In December he was doing tour prep with D'Angelo and in Jan and Feb he was on the road on tour. There was no conflict with the O7's schedule. He told us this himself.
