This recent work, she sounds pretty good. Like someone else said, as well as about 75% of the singers on the radio waves today.

I don't like the style of song. It is kind of slow and dragging. Her performances during the NPG days was such high energy, and her personality shows as high energy, positivity and sunny... I just don't think this slow ballad that seems to not have any base or direction capitalizes her personality.

If it is going to be a ballad, then maybe something similar to a neo soul style.... with some real deep heartfelt emotion... not placid and very surface. Even if it just the MUSIC sounding deep with emotion. The song and lyrics just slide/glide along so smoothly that it doesn't catch your attention.

I would prefer something that would make you want to get up and dance.... similar to "If" by Janet Jackson.or Paula Abdul "Stand Up" Both of these songs are by women who can really dance, are both GORGEOUS and their singing is decent. And that type of singing is easy to do if your voice is not the powerhouse variety like Aretha, Patty, who can really put their mark on ballads.

Yeah, I think a dance song would be better. And then she could do a video incorporating some killer moves and look DAMN good doing them.

Tell her don't quit... just find a different writer. High energy dance or if ballad... neo soul type (think Jill Scott, Kelly Price or Badu.... OR this current style (I call it 2011 version Stevie Nicks) Adele.

I think you are right. She should look towards how the video will look and show off her dance moves. It is obvious that dance is still her #1 love. It is also probably the worst paying job in the entertainment industry. How well did her belly dancing instruction video go? I wish she would do a very basic beginner one. I would love it. I think she should break it down into 3 parts, beginner, intermediate and advanced.

I was looking at some of her appearances on talk shows and she definitely is more comfortable in front of a camera than Prince. I could see her being the health and fitness reporter for a talk show aswell. You will have to tell me how her acting is coming along.

I talked with her one time on this website... you know posted a question and got an answered.

When I saw she responded and realized that she was on the Org I asked her if she had considered putingt out a fitness video...

you know how these folks that we don't know... who come from outer galaxy(or someplace) and suddenly is a fitness star... I am thinking that if they can put out a successful fitness video then Mayte could as well especially since she is pretty, fit, postive personality and already have a fan base (albeit fan base is through her association to Prince). I think she should have a really good opportunity to get recognition as a fitness video instructor. And that can lead to other opportunities. Look at Jillian Michael.

I think a fitness video with beauty tips would be much more accessible to women of all ages instead of belly dancing. Belly dancing has some techincal difficulty that beginners may have the dexterity to be able to master.

Well that wasn't bad at all! I honestly had no idea she could sing- the few songs the public were exposed to from her Prince production didn't do her justice all, and the one time I saw her live they had the poor girl lip syncing instead of showing her talent. Her sound has a lovely mainstream appeal...sort of like an adult contemporary singer. Mainstream Selena mixed in with a dash of Mandy Moore, perhaps?

She has a good voice that's suited for pop, who knew? She certainly sounds better than a lot of girls on the radio. It's a pity she didn't pursue pop music full throttle. I would rather have been bombarded on top 40 radio with a voice like hers than like that of Brittney Spears or even J-lo (who I love as an actress, but Lord I can't stand to hear her sing ).

She should go for it and maybe test out another demo or two on the public. Better now than never

I was not a Prince fan during the time Mayte went on tour with him. I became a fan only 3 years ago quite by chance. At that time Prince was taking everything with his likeness and therefore Mayte's likeness off of youtube as fast as it would go up.

Lately however I seem to have access to many videos of Prince singing with Mayte dancing right by his side and I just love her. She is so damn adorable! Everything about her is perfect. I wish good things for her in her future.

you know, I am one who always grieves for the tragedy that occured in Mayte's and Prince's life and someone just said something that made me think;

It is true that the baby and divorce was terrible and hard to endure.... but she did, she got through it and I am sure she is stronger for that experience and I bet she has moved on and found happiness in life.

So, I am going to not focus on the sad past, but look forward and celebrate the good in her future.

and wish her the best because she comes across as a positive person. not because of karma... just because she seems nice.

I love all these pics and it is clear that belly dancing is her niche. It is also a densual form of dancing that helps with women"s trouble spots. I don't know of any other famous belly dancer in the states and I think she should do her best to become the most famous belly dancer in the states.
