Now, THIS album truly brings back a lot of elements of the Minneapolis Sound and updates them. I mean, the keys on so many of these songs are...the "shit is SICK"! I'm more excited and happy about this release than anything of Prince's in the past decade. The only thing that I listened to half as much as this one was 3121.
Prince said virtually every track on MPLSound could be played on the radio. Yeah, maybe for the "Pump It or Dump It?" segment where we KNOW it's going to be dumped, but there are a lot of decent tracks on here that could also get by on the radio too. It's not all just poppy ass nonsense. Granted, there are a couple of elements on a couple of tracks that lean a little too far into the present, with its hip-hop and current elements and whatnot. But as a whole, this is extremely well done.
I think live, this band could STILL kick Prince's ass on that stage. Imagine their classic catalog along with some of these tracks peppered in there and accentuated being performed....KILLER!! And they're still fun! They haven't let getting older stand in the way of having some fuckin' fun, yet still have some maturity to them. People (usually the ass kissers) say that Prince wouldn't sound right as a 53-year old man cursing. Yeah. Right. Does it sound "ridiculous" or "potty" when Morris or the band says "shit" or "damn" or "fuck"? No, of course not. So that excuse for defending Prince not cursing (if it's due to religion, that's one thing; but don't sit there and say it wouldn't sound right for a 50-something year old dude using profanity) goes right down the toilet.
Prince, take note for your next album. Take the stick out yo' ass and have some fun in the studio and get some talented people around you to bounce ideas off of, like you did up until about 1987. You'll be able to hear it in the music.
I'm sure I'll catch some hell for this post, but I don't give a fuck! Long live The muthafuckin' Original 7ven!!!!!!!!!
No hell from me, and you almost said The Time, lol. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I have a feeling that Prince is going 2 try 2 out do The Origianl 7ven this time around. I don't know how, but I think he will definitely give it a try. Maybe this will be the kick-in-the-ass he needs to release a great album instead of the crap known as 20ten.
It'd be nice, but for some reason, I don't think he will (try to outdo them). If Prince was bored before because he felt there was no one to "challenge" him, then I'm hoping this provides that for him!! 20Ten and MPLSound were really God-awful, with only a couple of tunes I'd ever consider playing again! |

I really like a lot of MPLSound and LotusFlow3r, but I cannot take any track on 20Ten. It all sounds like incomplete ideas. |

I'm happy as a clam with O7 and a Red Stripe! I'm on ADYKMN now and I love the funky groove of it with Jessie Johnson's guitar licks thrown in. Music heaven! Lot's of Jessie Johnson on this album. The stand-out songs for me so far are: Strawberry Lake, Condensate, If I Was Yo Man (yehhsss!), Role Play, Sick, Cadillac, AYDKMN, Toast To The Party Man, and GOHOMETOYOURMAN. Very solid album over all and well worth the wait. Even if someone doesn't dig all the songs on it, this album has so many good songs, it is well worth buying.

But, your quote that I bolded is funny as shit...and oh so true!! I really hope they push, push, PUSH this album and have a really good tour behind it too. And, I'm not talking about the Garrett County Fair or some similar shit to that. I'm talking 1,500-seat venues and shit like that.

You right! Alex, never mind! I'm really digging that song. And did I hear a nod to Prince on Strawberry Lake with the chant of "Party Man?" Gotta listen to it again. Also, it seems like that song starts out with a Sly and The Family Stone vibe and then switches to Minneapolis at the end. In a recent Billboard interview,Jimmy Jam said that they have a major tour planned for 2012.They will play some festivals and will co-headline with another major band. They didn't name any names, but I'd love to see them on a bill with a band like Midnight Star,Cameo or Earth Wind & Fire.
Meanwhile, Jam says, the group will "focus most of our touring towards next year. We're planning on hopefully doing a ton of festival things. There's some interesting possibilities for bills with people that are kind of intriguing -- I can't say names yet, but where we would basically co-headline or even open for somebody. For us it's pretty wide open."----Billboard,September 2011 |

I really hope they push, push, PUSH this album and have a really good tour behind it too. And, I'm not talking about the Garrett County Fair or some similar shit to that. I'm talking 1,500-seat venues and shit like that.

No offense to those othe bands but O7ven is lookin for something bigger than what those are doin now. Morris Days version could do that, but with a new album they lookin for someting major. I could see them wit Janet. Depending on how well the album does is how big o a tour they will do. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I wish I was feeling the new CD like everyone else. I'm just not feeling any of it at all. |

I don't think that Janet will be touring next year. She's on tour right now but it will wind down in December.A co-headlining tour with Earth Wind & Fire would be a great idea.A show like that would have no problem selling out arenas. |

I'm happy as a clam with O7 and a Red Stripe! I'm on ADYKMN now and I love the funky groove of it with Jessie Johnson's guitar licks thrown in. Music heaven! Lot's of Jessie Johnson on this album. The stand-out songs for me so far are: Strawberry Lake, Condensate, If I Was Yo Man (yehhsss!), Role Play, Sick, Cadillac, AYDKMN, Toast To The Party Girl, and GOHOMETOYOURMAN. Very solid album over all and well worth the wait. Even if someone doesn't dig all the songs on it, this album has so many good songs, it is well worth buying.
Best album of 2011 This is a solid, consistent effort. There was no doubt in my mind that these guys could create an amazing album. They brought the funk!!
Whole-heartedly agree with you. They definitely brought the funk! Although I was wrong about the Party Man nod in Strawberry Lake. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

That makes me very hopeful that they will play at a venue near me. Although I hope to see just O7 by themselves. Morris Day performs around here quite a lot, so I hope O7 will, too. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

The Half-Time could sell out an arena, O7ven is supportin a new album, noe EWF. If the Jacksons could get back together, those two could sel out some shows. PRINCE: Always and Forever
