Prince's new guitar player Andy can't play

Andy Allo started learning guitar 2 years ago,and in 2 years

time you can learn the basics but it takes much more to get the feeling

required to play with Prince.

No wonder she didn't do funk guitar On DMSR

I'm worried this is the first time Prince have a band member who can't play their instrument, even Kirk knew basics of the drum

He does know what he's doing. He knows exactly what he's doing. He's getting cheap musicians. Less experience equates to less money.

Wow, that's really nasty. I didn't like the performance on French telly, so I don't wanna even start talking about this...I'm slightly disappointed, cause a) so many guest appearances in LA with the symbol stage and Sheila b) no guest appearances in Europe and shit stadiums (?)...a) solid shows in LA but b) impro shows in Europe. I mean i know some people prefer one over the other...but not me!

Prince is looking very relaxed in Europe, i have no idea what it means. Maybe relaxed cause he knows he can do what shit he wants. I remember him saying that actually.

Prince I will always miss and love U.

Prince wouldn't work with someone who didn't have chops. You know this, I know this.

Yes but he likes his protegees, and we know how Elixir and everything else sounds like. Anyway, I think the intro of Andy on telly may not necessariy mean anything, and hopefully I won't isten to her horrible voice wasting half an hour of gig time. Add another half an hour Shelby rapping some shit...and an hour is gone...good times! wink

Did anyone catch the infrequency she was playing? At one point I thought there must be a backing sample guitar since she was just holding the guitar at her side. The show was too loose for backing tracks though, so I have no idea.

I've been digging her cover version of Waiting In Vain which you can download for free from her website. It's just her on vocals and guitar. You should check it out.

Yeah but when it comes down to who he allows onstage with him with an actual instrument in their hand...it's a different story entirely, his standards are pretty high then.

So I think it's safe to say that if he has Andy up on stage with him wielding an ax, it's because she's a hell of a guitar player.

She's not that good yet. But if she's around Prince, hopefully she'll become good quickly...

She's learning from one of the best, but my confusion is how it is she's clearly learning on the job, and while the shows sound looser, they still sound like Prince shows - yet she looks to be visibly lost and stops playing during songs. Maybe there's another guitar off stage?

Anyone have some theories?

...Musicians? Seriously?

Alicia Keys? Esperanza Spalding ring a bell?...

When it comes to actual female musicians he selects, he picks the ones who actually have a great deal of talent. Then, all that T&A stuff goes out the window.

It's too early to call. Although I agree she didn't really do anything for me in the Le Grand Journal performance, but I'm happy to give her a second chance.

And two years is more than enough time. If you already have a decent knowledge of music - scales, chords, good relative pitch etc. on one instrument, it makes it easier and quicker to learn other instruments. I taught myself how to play woodwind instruments to a fairly decent level within a few months, having already had a good knowledge of piano and brass instruments. It's just a matter of getting the muscles working correctly once you know what notes you want to play.

So yeah, let's just wait it out. No need to shred the poor girl too early - she might end up embarrassing you!

He performed with them on stage, but they're not in his band. btw, I love [some of] the ladies he's had in his band. I wish he'd just have an all female band. Put Shiela E. on the drums, bring Wendy & Lisa back....That would be something. I heard Andy's album, & I didn't hear any mind-blowing guitar playing whatsoever....or singing for that matter...I question both male & female musicians he picks actually...

So now you're turning this into a semantics game or a round of technicalities? *eyeroll*

Like I said dude. When it comes to the actual musicians he performs with, he's a lot more picky about who he'll go onstage with. Prince is as serious as a heart attack about his music. He doesn't invite women musicians into his band or even to just do a guest appearance with him, unless they have a LOT of talent.

And you really just proved my point with the Wendy and Lisa thing, frankly. The Revolution was HIS band, and he hired them both.

Who was talking about looks? The subject is strictly TALENT, and playing ability.

You're obnoxious. You're giving me a headache and making my nose run. lol

No, I'm observant. Just think about it. I believe Prince wants people who are better at doing what he tells them then how well they can play [And all the ladies must look good too]....

Well her guitar was not really working on the performance at Le Grand Journal. So you can't blame her that. You should give her a chance! I like her. I think Prince knows what he is doing. The girl has a very good voice, and I heard some acoustic performance of her on Youtube. I thought it was good, but she was little nervous there too.. So I think she was a little nervous too.

She's a good singer and can write good songs. Not a virtuoso on the instrument, but definately better then what we think.

Who cares, though, she's fucking, fucking, fucking hot. Lord.

Hmm... I doubt looks only can get you the world. It's just simply more pleasing to the eye to look at someone who looks confident, hygenic, stylish etc.
