honestly, i feel about the same about the family demo as i do about the prince tracks. they're all pleasant enough to my ears and they have me interested in the forthcoming projects, but i'm not jumping up and down and squealing with joy every time i hear these songs. and i'm not trying to insult any of what i've heard by prince or the family. i'm just like, you know..."yeah, it's all cool, whatever man..."

Shoooot..... how was I sleepin' on this?
I just watched those videos.....and this is so cool! I like the songs in the video better than the auido of Sanctified, though mainly cuz Sanctified takes a while to get going with the syncopated hits....but this is stuff is cool! Susannah looks amazing! I love the video in Paul's studio. I love her with longer darker hair....she looks so great!! and young! Paul looks good but different. Can't wait to see the final product and hopefully they will tour! Come to NYC!

yup. Co-sign. The demo is ok, but I was thinking the same thing. Sounds just like the same thing people have been banging on him to stop doing for the last oh, six years. No more horns, no more funk, blah blah blah. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

wtf? what is he on? it's not like anyone except hardcores remember that group and so what if they stick to their original name? he didn't build an empire on their albums. they only had one. he should be glad that they're still being productive and recording something now in an environment where most music has gone to shit. another sad move if it is true Which is why it shouldn't make a difference whether they call themselves The Family, Family 2.0. or something totally unrelated like The Paul Peterson Five. The news will get posted here and the folks who like the music will buy it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well, the bar is probably a little higher for Prince than for these guys, and for good reason. Just to clarify though, Eric on sax is TOTALLY different than the horn section people bitch about (e.g. Musicology tour etc.). Eric's lone sax has always fit right in with the purple funk, whereas the "vegasy" horns get in the way.

And if I'm not mistaken wasn't Maceo Parker and Grey Boyer on some of the Musicology tour stops? Nothing "vegasy" about them at all. And I like Eric. Frankly he and Jellybean would be only reason I even considered buying this Family 2.0 album. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yes Maceo and Greg were there, and maybe some poeple complained about Eric (hell, people here will complain about ANYthing! ). My point is that in most of Eric's work with Prince's music from Madhouse through Prince records, his style of sax playing was more of a soloist (even if he had overdubs or Matt on trumpet) rather than a whole horn section. And even his stabs with Matt IMO "fit" better in the funk arrangements compared to more recent horn sections. For example, on Musicology tour, even though you had greats like Maceo there, the arrangements were more "Vegasy" if you will or at least in the sense that the horn SECTION played the synth parts, as opposed to having synths play the parts (which in the 70s would be horns ironically) and Eric and Matt added something different "in between". It's hard to explain, but it has to do with how the parts are arranged and I always felt Eric's style just blended perfectly with Prince's music.

And while this project has no Prince input it sounds like the same stuff some of his fans were complaining about him doing for the last six or seven years. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When Morris Day wanted to tour again under the name he was told NO. I'm not talking about the Time reunion of last year, I'm talking about years ago. wouldn't taht still be the same? He is still using the name "The Time"...maybe not... I just don't think I could start a band and call it Prime and the NPG.... Prime aka The Kid

I happen to think he has lost whatever set his music apart. Doesn't make it bad, just not as interesting as it was to me before. Mostly his lazy writing is what I personally have issues with. And the content too. Not holding my attention. But as usual- just me and my opinion.

If this is true, it would be a shame and rather contradictory. Prince makes statements about artist freedom, himself being a "slave" for Warner Bros., and writes songs like "Family Name"; FREEDOM FOR THE FAMILY!

When I first heard Eric's solo on "Possessed" from the PR live video I was like who is this funky cat!?... And I think I bought the "Anotherlover" 12" in hopes that Eric's part from the live Birthday show version would be mixed in... So The Family for me was just as much about Eric's playing as anything else. [Edited 1/14/09 23:20pm]

Good timing for Prince to reunite with warners, release his own music and use his juice to have warners sign famiy 2.0 and put it out by itself and or maybe a 2nd version which would be a deluxe 2cd version which includes the original family album. Girl 6 soundtrack had the family's "screams of passion" but other than finding an original import version (so pricey on ebay) I would love to here an original remastered version of the original. Whatever happends I'm first in line to buy 2.0. Thanks Family, its been a long time coming and we never forgot about you all these years. Please tour to San Francisco for one of your stops. We love you out here in the BAY AREA.
