Personally, I think this is a non-issue.

1: The few thousand folks that really, really care about a new "Family" album already know it's coming. Once it drops, the word will spread like wildfire through the Prince / Wendy & Lisa / associated fan communities.

2A: For potential new fans, the old name makes it exceedingly hard to find information on them. Trying to Google or database search for a generic name like "The Family"? Been doing it for years - and it's a pain in the neck. From a simple name recognition / branding perspective, it's a terrible name.

2B: Also, the old Prince association (for those who make it) is probably also a liability. Better to start with a new name.

3: Besides, this makes a great story for reports if they're trying to get some publicity for the new album. Prince might have given them the best marketing angle yet.

the family was Prince's baby. He wrote the songs and then gave them credit. Paul quit on him and his relationship with Susannuh failed. Why should he be willing to let them use His name? Paul had his chance and blew it.

So since Prince is not involved why should they use that name? Just because u don't want something u created to be used by some folk u might not feel all that good about doesn't make u an asshole.

Anyway really without prince its not the family anyway. so no need to use the name. it would be a misnomer. None of those folks really brought anything particularly to the table. I don't even get what would be interesting about an album created by that group of folk. Has any of them actually created any great music on their own?

I don't understand what you mean by Prince hurting Susannah for not allowing her to use the Family name. I bet that she was disappointed but however they have move on with the name issue and like I said in my last above post so should the rest of us. And also Prince have his way of granting people's permission when it comes to using something he owns and always have and always will be so The Family members shouldn't be so suprised and devasting with the predictable outcome. I am just glad that they are going to still release their album and that is the most important part. It would be cool if The Family or Family 2.0 and Wendy Lisa would do a mini tour together later on this year. They can invite some of their more famous musicial friends along with them like Questlove and Erykah Badu and Nikka Costa to get more response with the tour.
