Apparently.....U don't understand.

Uh.... no.

As usual your reply makes no sense. This is getting pointless.

You have now proven multiple times that you are incapable of either understanding simple logic and answering a simple question, or you are just purposely being a jerk. Either way you are making yourself look like a fool IMO.

Thus, I won't bother trying to have a rational conversation with you any more.

If anyone else has a rational reply to my original question, feel free to respond.

You are wasting your time bro. They wont answer your question because there doesn't seem to be a reasonable one. Prince will always be one of my favorite performers but he has pulled many jerky hypocritical moves over the last decade or so. Im no longer surprised by the sheep here that wont admit that the man we all appreciate as a musician can still be a total ass at times.

If your referring to your question of why he wouldn't let them do the dvd. See my theory re-posted below.

I'll just say this about the Family Jamm dvd or whatever they wanted to do. I don't really think it had anything to do with people involved per se. I think it was more he didn't want boots of the dvd floating around. Granted he wasn't participating but it is his work. And despite what many fans will say about giving to the charity and so on there are just as many who could give a damn about the charity and would download it for free and sell the thing to other fans for profit. All Prince fans aren't as altruistic as they would have you think.

Was off the ORG for a few days..... Thanks for this reply. Totally makes sense.

Not at all. What is strange is that Prince who is Sheila's friend and supports her charity, didn't let her sell the Family Jamm to earn more money for charity.
Who said it should be public domain? Typical fam response. sad

-----
No it is not a typical fam response. Some people on this board seem to think that former associates and protegees have carte blanche to do what they want with this music. They do not and would not if anyone else owned the copyright.

P is really no different than companies that own copyrights. If they do not want you using the material you can't use it. End of story.

First, read what I actually wrote above in bold. The question was not about "doing whatever they want with his music", rather the specific question above (i.e. allow one of his best friends to hlep raise money for her charity which he already supports).

Second, you are actually wrong. If you lookup copyright law, you wuill learn that Anyone can perform and cover any song they want as long as they pay a performance royalty and do not alter the work substantially.

So actually, copright holders do not have TOTAL control, although they can control people recording and selling said performances.

Neverthless, Jude has pointed out wisely that this is a pointless discussion.

GodsloveisTrue

wasn't the family under the WB logo? Could it be that this has something to do with these actions. Hmmm if so, maybe it is best to do a name switch, that way the looney tunes at WB don't get a darn thing:) Who knows ...only a thought.

Not that it matters now but Prince, whether he claims to or not, doesnt own that name. If he did actually ask them not to use it - trust me, it was more of a request than a threat.

The Family.com is registered to (and this is funny) the Osmond family lol ...yes, relatives of Donnie and Marie. So that fact alone is strike one for Wendy and the gang...

Strike two is the fact that "The Family" as it relates to musical performances and recordings is owned by a gospel label in Inglewood CA.

Neither Prince nor Wendy&Lisa can claim use of it free and clear, its an automatic legal liability end of story.

Smile. it makes people wonder what ur up to. biggrin

the Family 2.0

I just wrapped up a chat with St. Paul, Jellybean Johnson and Eric Leeds of The Family. St. Paul turned on his webcam and streamed The Family in the studio live this evening. There was a live chat going on. Jellybean manned the chat for a bit. Once Eric was done recording some sexy sax parts, he came out of the recording booth and joined Paul and Bean to say hi on the cam and in the chat. They were so kind to all of us in the chat room, and very responsive to anything we typed. I should mention that Eric's brother Alan Leeds was in the chat room (but not in the studio), and watching everything going on, and talking with us fans and viewers. Alan was very responsive and open to Prince questions. It did not turn into a Q&A about Prince, but Prince was mentioned. There were about 26 people total in the chat, including myself, and Alan Leeds.

Paul said to us that he really wished Prince would play on a song. He said, "Let's just do this, P! Let's have dinner, get over the past, and move on and make some music." Alan was quick to point out that it was not "bad blood", but rather "bad judgment". Now whether he meant Paul leaving The Family, or Prince being mad at him for it....who knows. It was all very light hearted and fun. Paul said he was anxious to have Prince work on a song, so make it a really new and current yet retro Family album.

While Paul and the boys were working on the songs, we could obviously hear them. The sound is so fantastically "Family". It's not a retro throw back, or a rehash, but it's also not choked full of dry, over-produced samples and drum machines like you'd hear today. If you check The Family's Myspace page, there are videos on there. The songs you hear are so perfectly "Family", you could probably identify the group without someone telling you. Check out the videos on their front page.

The chat was a great treat this afternoon. Now, how did I know about this live stream? Well, I follow St. Paul Peterson on Twitter. Add him here. You can also follow The Family on Twitter. It's worth it, ya'll!

This Family record is going to be great. And for the record, yes Susannah is still part of The Family. She just wasn't at this particular studio session. It seemed to be more about Eric laying down some sax parts this time around.

Thanks to Paul, Jellybean, Eric, and everyone else there that made this afternoon a great time.
