I hope you're right. I also think that the girls have put themselves in a very pretty position, what with soundtracking Heroes, etc., so now the general public has more knowledge than ever of them.

I seem to keep going back to this song. It's easy to sign to (handy since I'm learning ASL). It's a very directional song.

Sorry but this new opus by W&L bores me to death (apart from a few brillant moments here and there).
I recognize their effort to be experimental in their production but their compositions are just plain boring. Listening to their new music is like being stuck in a fridge.
Don't get me wrong, I love these girls and they are very talented but there is so much great muisic out there that I'm not gonna waste any more time on this (same for this horrid Planet Earth by you know who !). lol

I think Wendy & Lisa are the only artists in the world that only have released albums I like back to front. Every album.

Okay, not a big output (with five albums in 2 years) compared to other artists, but I rather have a few great albums than a whole lotta albums filled with crap. You know who I'm talking about.
[Edited 12/9/08 7:56am]

Yeah we know Prince would be nothing without them and Prince can thank them everyday + he wouldn't have done anything in his career without them.
Let's start this silly debate over and over again ! lol

I certainly did not say that. But hey, you can read into my words whatever you like, just like I am not going to pay much attention to someone who thinks this album is boring; to each their own.

Actually, I'm quite tired they are still cornered in the 'related artists' forum on here. They certainly crafted a perfect carreer for themselves outside of the Prince universe.

I only made the comparison to Prince because I am frustrated that Prince jampacks his album releases with so much second rate filler and, of course, because this is a Prince site.

Stay in W&L's fridge then. lol

I respect those who dig this cd. But yes I still think the melodies throughout the cd are flat and boring and this cd could push a few fragile people towards suicide !

Take it easy btw. It is just a cd. Nothing more but a cd.

I totally agree with you. There should be a W&L's forum where you W&L's fans could talk about their music forever and leave the Prince (you know this horrid dwarf) camp at the same time.
That would be so nice !

Please calm down mate. You dig their cd. I don't at all. What's the problem. Thats what forums are made for: debating.
That's simply the kind of pop production that freezes my whole soul and my whole body from my head to my feet.
Apparently it talks to your heart and there will be a vast majority of people here who will agree with you and that will surely make you more confident in your own opinions ans taste.
Again it's just a cd.

I think I might have to agree - its too airy - too slow, too much Lisa vocally, dont get me wrong I like when Lisa sings on 2 or 3 songs on most their projects - I defintetely am more a Wendy fan when it comes to the vocals

I would've put at least 3 funky uptempo tracks on the project - where's that funky guitar riff from Madonna's "she's not me" - I skimmed thru the songs now going for the full listen this morning.. but on the real I'd rather have it than not.. I pray that they tour!! Please GOD!! Tour NYC /NJ. - oh I would like them to have a POP hit at radio - I wish they produce something like "I kissed a girl"!

and I love me some Planet Earth, can't live with that CD (minus Mr. Goodnight and All the Midnights)

ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!!

What a beautiful record. I can't even begin to describe what I feel. Seriously folks this record is something else. I hope they get the recognition they deserve. It really is that good, in my opinion...

I can't wait for some live gigs here in L.A.

it's not about hating on them, it's about truly recognizing that they r so overated. if they were that good, then they wouldn't have been dropped by columbia and virgin records.

where was the praise 4 greazy meal?

where was the praise 4 the sons of almighty which featured both sonny t, tommy barberella and michael bland?

so yes there is a LOT of ass kissing 4 wendy and lisa on the org and elsewhere, i'm just not one of them.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Big stretch.

Very seriously, if you're at all interested in the state of the modern music industry, I recommend watching "Before the Music Dies." Awesome documentary about the disconnect between musical talent and the music industry, which includes both industry insiders and amazing musicians from across the spectrum.

Short version (and coming from someone who used to conduct extensive research on behalf of the music industry lo these many years ago): serious talent is as likely to scare off a major label as attract them.

The radio business and record deals are all about research ratings these days. But, you want to know the interesting thing? Artists and song who rate strongly positive are just as likely to get the boot as those who rate strongly negative -- because they tend to evoke very strong reactions. And when your primary business in radio is attacting advertisers, those strong reactions are something to avoid.

Add pre-defined genres, and you see where we're going. More homogeny within each genre, and less room for coloring outside the lines.

So, you end up with a lot of extremely talented musicians who fall outside those genre boundaries, labels who don't quite know how to market them, and A&R reps under a lot of pressure to sell an artist now, now, now. There is no more budget or patience for marketing artists and slowly building a real audience.

Which is why an increasing number of artists (including not only W&L, but folks like Ani DiFranco, Radiohead, Brian Eno, David Byrne, Nine Inch Nails -- and yes, even Prince) are looking beyond the labels for ways to connect directly with their audiences.

It's about time.

very valid points and i'm one that is against the industry 4 turning their backs on very good talent but push and thrust upon the public watered down hollow acts and claim they r great. (rhianna's, the jonas bros, britney's etc) where as talented acts like me'shell ndegeocello don't get their rightful due.

as 4 saying it's a big stretch on my part about Wendy and lisa, not really since they got dropped by their lables in the 80's and early 90's. the shift in the music business was taking form but not 2 the xtreme it is now.

I have to say Sons of Almighty kick W&L's asses big time. I never understood why they never got any praise from P's fans.
It is true that W&L's fans are hardcore fans who find difficult to accept any kind of criticism regarding their music.
