New topic PrintableI'm really disappointed to hear that P didn't show. :disbelief:It seems like he never leaves LA LA land anymore! When was the last time he was even home? Was it last July for the perfume bit? (sigh...)
All I can say is,these were people very important to Prince's career/ friends at one time or another. It would have been 'nice' of him to at least show up, even if he didn't perform. Maybe he could have mended a few bridges too, who knows? Anyway, Happy 50th P! I still have mad 4 u!! "This is where the Purple Party People be!"

I'd pass on that too. | |

yeah, that really wasn't necessary. this event was really the only celebration of prince's 50th birthday to be held in mpls, so it was bound to get a healthy audience either way. they didn't need to dangle a carrot that they knew wasn't going to happen.

Thanks! I couldn't remember his name. He was very good! Here is what I can remember of the set list. I think I'm missing a lot so those who were there please add what you remember. NOT IN ORDER Head Do me baby Do it all night Why you wanna treat me so bad (w/Dez) Little red corvette (w/Dez) Modernaire (w/Dez) Sexy MF I wanna be your lover Jungle Love Let’s Work Cream DMSR Automatic Girls and boys Money don’t matter tonight She’s always in my hair When Doves Cry The beautiful ones Raspberry Beret Strange Relationship Slow Love Computer blue Condition of the heart America Not suprisingly, the setlist is very very heavy on Prince's 80s songs - cause they're the best by far. the music knows what your motives are when you are making it
listen to The Replacements - its good for the soul

HEY!! IT'S MICHAEL BLAND. I'D JUST LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WHO SHOWED UP TO THE CABOOZE, LAST FRIDAY. WE HAD VERY LITTLE TIME TO PREPARE(sorry for the doors opening late.. we hadn't tried "when doves cry" and "she's always in my hair", yet..). AND, I REALLY WANTED TO PLAY MATERIAL THAT PRINCE, MOST LIKELY, WOULDN'T, THESE DAYS. I'M GLAD Y'ALL ENJOYED YOURSELVES. DEZ WAS A LAST MINUTE ADDITION. I CALLED HIM ON A WHIM, AFTER THE PROMOTER TOLD ME WENDY AND LISA WEREN'T COMING. HE BRUSHED UP ON THE MATERIAL, SHOWED UP AND BROUGHT IT!! HE WAS AWESOME.. DEZ AND I ARE TALKING ABOUT GOING INTO THE STUDIO, THIS FALL, AND DOING SOME RECORDING.. I'LL KEEP Y'ALL POSTED- SONNY HAD A LAST MINUTE ENGAGEMENT IN ITALY. I HAD INCLUDED SOME SELECTIONS FROM "EXODUS", BUT REMOVED THEM WHEN HE TOLD ME HE WASN'T GONNA MAKE IT. TYKA WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO PERFORM. HER MANAGEMENT TEAM ASKED FOR VIP SEATING AND PERMISSION TO HAND OUT SIGNED PHOTOS. DEZ'S BOOK WAS ALSO AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE, THAT NIGHT. BUT, NO ONE MADE ANY SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS ABOUT IT. IT WASN'T REALLY A PRIORITY TO US. WE WERE, PRETTY MUCH, FOCUSED ON NOT SUCKING..LOL.. AND, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST PLACE SOMEONE WOULD HAVE SAID SO, IF WE DID.. LOL.. THE "JAMIE STARR" THING? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU. IT WASN'T OUR IDEA.- /Users/michaelbland/Pictures/SA sticker mug.jpeg M.B.

WE HAD VERY LITTLE TIME TO PREPARE(sorry for the doors opening late.. ----- Thank you Michael and the rest of the band. We had such a good time. I screamed my lungs out like a school girl, and later my throat was sore. It was worth it lol. The band was amazing and tight. Just wish it could have gone on longer, as if 4 hours wasn't enough. I should do this kinda thing more often. It was a night to remember. Thank you again. Thank you Simm and Julie Purplehead for posting the pictures too!

It was a real treat to see you, Eric and Dez. Closing with Stokely on "She's Always in My Hair" was a fantastic idea because he killed it. Our only request would be that you guys add "Lady Cab Driver" to the set. I would LOVE to hear you on drums on that one. [Edited 6/12/08 20:51pm] perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

2 FUNNY GIOVANNI - I really didn't think that he would be there - but I thought maybe, maybe he might show up at the Sunday party. The main room didn't have anything going @ 1st Ave - nothing wrong to hope and dream huh? I wish Tyka would have sang - I really wanted to hear her. Saw her up in the balcony though! I love her look, and her gospel songs! It was great to see all the outstanding musicians alive - I'll never forget it -so glad I made it! Well - Y would he want to entertain others on his BD? Sounds like it was a great time.
I just don't understand why anyone would want to hear P's sister sing????? I don't get the fascination with the relationship of a P sibling....there is no way I would even see her for free. Who cares! Now the actual musicians that played for P know what that was all about and now the music.... that's different. "
