Yeah all, just quickly as I'm sure there will be more detailed reports coming in.
First, No Prince. I didn't actually think that he would show so this wasn't a huge let down for me. Too bad though. 
The band included:Michael Bland, Dez Dickerson, Eric Leeds, Dr. Matt Fink, Billy Franze, Bill Brown, Odell, Donnie La Marca, Mark Lichteig, Jerry Hubbard, James Brown (JB), and G Sharp. Strangely Sonny T. wasn't there. I'll try to find out why not when I see the Combo this Monday. Seeing Dez up there was amazing!! We were close to the stage and my friend took some great shots of Dez that I'll post later. He sat in for Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad, Little Red Corvette and he even did Modernaire! I was so happy to see him up there and he hammed it up quite a bit for the cameras which was great. Michael B chose a great set list - I hope someone wrote it down for ya'll. G-sharp from Dr. Mambo's Cambo sang most lead vocals. He does a great Prince so it was really perfect having him on vocals. He even sang Condition of the Heart for an encore, which was lovely. 
I guess Tyka was in the house but I didn't see her - she didn't take the stage. Anyway, I'm tired so more later but I thought I'd at least share something with ya'll. | |

Didn't know if I'd make it there - but - I did.
It was a beautiful nite! Amazing musicians! It was a total HIGH! There was a NEW wicked bass player there too - Yohannes Tona - Excellent. Mr. Stokely Williams closed the show - that was cool! (The associated artist/and or collaborator?)

I had a great time last night, despite the lack of you-know-who (who none of us expected to see, anyway) and some other setbacks and minor foibles (what happened to Sonny? why did Tyka keep such a low profile? what happened to the "very special surprise guests"?).
No matter, it was still a hell of a lot of fun for what it was. The night was worth it when I got to hear Dr. Fink blast through his classic keyboard solo in "Head", and when we were treated to "Slow Love" with Eric Leeds reminding us of what makes that song one of Prince's better bedroom ballads. Dez was great - he was in a jovial mood and he had great energy. I fammed through the roof when they broke out with "Modernaire". My only wish was that he could have stayed on stage longer. It was cool to see Michael Bland, as always (the picture on his bass drum was cracking me up all night, by the way), and the "lesser known" members of the band certainly held their own with the tried and true Princely legends in attendance. I think a lot of people were thinking this was going to be one of those "special" Prince-related events, like a mini-7/7/07 or something of the like. Well, it wasn't all that, but for as much fun as we had last night, the organizers of this family reunion really didn't need to tantalize us with the possible appearance of "Jamie Starr". Hearing some of the classics I haven't heard Prince himself perform in years, last night's show was almost more Prince than Prince is himself these days. Good stuff.  | |

Most of the band was made up of Dr. Mambo's Combo (including Michael B. and G-SHarp who was on vocals). They do a Prince set almost every Monday night at Bunkers and these guys are tight! They cover Prince tunes so often it is safe to say that many of the "Princely legends" would have trouble holding there own with them! Check em out! I wish that Dez would have played more too and busted out on more solos. But there wasn't a lot of rehearsal time so maybe that is why he didn't...
The band actually did socialize quite a bit - I saw pretty much everyone walking around talking with folks. I guess Sonny T. was called away for a last minute engagement so that is why he wasn't there. But it was an excellent time and I absolutely adored the set list. Great to hear all those songs! | |

Tyka was def there! its a shame there was no proper announcement of her being upstairs for a meet and greet! we all went 2 them several times re: her as some promised they would announce her, yet they did NOT. She was on hand with photo's, ready 4 signings and such, for ALL FAMS WHO WANTED 2 C HER, AND MEET HER. A FEW DID FIND THEIR WAY UPSTAIRS AS SHE TOOK PIC'S WITH THEM W/THEIR OWN CAMERA'S... WHAT A TREAT, SHE TRULY IS A SWEETHEART. At the end of the show, Ms. Nelson, did some meet and greet downstairs as Dez hung around 2 do so as well. We (the management team) still don't understand y some on stage (as we won't name names) did not announce 2 every1 properly - the meet and great which Dez & Tyka were 2 do. U best believe next time all will b announced. After all Tyka & Dez were truly the only FAMILY P had in the spot! w/the exception of all U lovely "Fams" of course. Our friends Matt Fink, Odell (mint condition), and Stokley w/Mint were all running back and forth upstairs having fun w/Tyka. She even moved herself 2 the front barstool row upstairs, away 4rom the VIP section n the back - U couldn't miss her, she looks just like P! - yet n little sister female form!

It is a little strange to think that people would flock to buy her photo and pay to get autographs just because she is related to Prince. Especially given the fact that she didn't perform and has never worked with him publicly.
