I completely understand coming after 3rd parties that are trying to use and/or profit from his music, but Jill sang, recorded, and contributed to the creation of this song. Again, he does not own the video of the performance so what grounds does he have to stand on. I'm by no means a Jill Jones fan but does the performer have no rights in this?

Everyone knows that Prince wrote most if not all of the Time's songs. Morris has made a very good living singing the same old songs for the last 20 years. What would ya'll say if P all of sudden said he couldn't sing those songs anymore. Or Sheila for that matter. Why is that any different from what he's doing to Jill???

that's extreme and that is not what is happening. I don't think Prince is telling anyone that they can't sing the songs they were apart of. The issue is that he does not like Youtube or myspace or anything of the like, and Jill and other associated artists does, so they need to contact each other and come to some sort of agreement. I know that sounds pretty silly because all prince have to do is simply not care especially if its their songs too. but it is what it is.

By the way, Morris Day has a clip from the Musicology show on his official website and Prince has not touched that. Not sure if that means anything but thought I'd throw that out there.

I do feel for the associated artist though, if they want to share their songs that Prince had a hand in they should be able to.

No way in hell her album from 83, 84 wouldn't have been huge. The girl had the complete package: Great vocals, great looks and charisma to boot. Like P, she was perfect for the 80's. When Jill saw that P was holding out on her, timing wise , she should have bounced then. Went to a cat like Nile Rodgers who was hot as fuck as a producer in the 80's. He would have worked with her before u could say lemon cake.

I don't think it has anything to do with being broke. It has to do with control.
You own the masters you have more control over future use of the music.

Just look at Ray Charles when he left Atlantic he went to ABC and he negoiatied to own all of the masters to his recordings. Think how great it was for him to control the use of that music in the movie "Ray"

He did not have to pay out as much to use the "ABC" recordings. Keep in mind that "Modern Songs in Country and Western was a hugh seller.

I can't understand why it was okay for Ray Charles to have control over his music and not Prince.

Some of you just do not see the big picture.
