Here is a link to assist you: www.fdncenter.org

Thanks for the info...even though the people in our grant office might laugh at me when they find out it's Prince affiliated. Hey, grants are grants, regardless of where they come from.

cool

So I am really going to forward this info to my grants department--but something weird is going on---the link for www.iapw.org is not working and I keep getting "Cannot find server" page. I tried it at work several times yesterday, but then last night when I tried it from my apt. it was fine. But today at work when I am trying to write up the info for grants, the link is dead. I've tried accessing it through these links, through gamillah.org, typing it directly into the browser bar...no success. Can someone else please try the link to see if it works or if it's just my company's network?

Or is it something more sinister going on (à la NPGMC closing)?!? hmmm

Thanks! cool

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

First, let me say congrats to Mani. clapping

I am a candle and home fragrance freak. If I run across her line of fragrances, I will definitely check them out.

With that being said, I am starting really think that Prince and Mani are no longer together. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like she is using Prince's name to get her own name out there. I mean, the first word in the title and in the article is Prince's name. If they really are separated, I wonder if they agreed to her getting her charity and business off the ground before the divorce. deal lol

Don't any of Prince's women have any talent? I mean, I could stay home all day and mix a bunch of crap together and call it "perfume" and then say, "Oh, I'll sell it and donate half to charity so I look good and nobody notices that I'm just a trophy wife that everybody has forgotten about. Oh, and maybe I'll file for divorce too."

You are kidding right? lol clapping lol good one! smile

Prince is musically intelligent, ONLY!

And for the "maturity"? Damn, that was funny! Don't get me wrong, man, but the guy IS a musical genious. He is NOT a god.

I really don't understand this comment at all. Prince strikes me as a very intelligent person who can hold a conversation about myriad topics. His music relfects the fact that he is well read and well versed in a plethora of subjects including history, religion and politics. He is intelligent and articulate. It is refreshing to him hear speak in this time when so many artists are so unpolished and inarticulate. With regard to business, Prince could not be as successful as he is and survive in the music industry for nearly three decades if he didn't have a high business acumen.

I don't think Prince is god by any stretch of the imagination. He is as flawed a human being as any of us. However, the rampant hatin on this board is sickening.
perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Prince's Wife Plans Home Fragrance Line

Prince's wife, Manuela Testolini Nelson is launching a new home fragrance line, 'Altru', which is based on her travels around the world.

Altru is part of Gamillah - her company which is aligned with a variety of social causes. WWD reports that there will be 16 pieces in the Altru collection including soy-based candles, interior fragrance oils and incense sticks and holders. More than half of the proceeds will go to the In A Perfect World Foundation, a non-profit organization designed to inspire children to become world leaders.

The Altru products are divided into six groups based on certain scents and named for qualities such as:
Harmony (tanenashi persimmon),
Integrity (Persian lilac and bamboo),
Artistry (masala chai),
Remembrance (grapefruit and Italian rosemary),
Wellness (white clove and wild ginger)
Appreciation (tiare and white freesia).

Prices range from $15 to $65 and the products will be sold starting in October exclusively at Nordstrom and at Manhattan's ABC Carpet & Home.

perhaps, given the latest news, she needs to add a few more products:

I can vouch to what U are talking about.
Let's see, after raising a half of dozen or more children (not all my own) I have to agree with U here. In all the time it took to raise these kids into adulthood I never had ONE vacation. The men that I knew where way too busy to think that I might need a day off. Why, with all the boating, fishing, hunting, jet skiing, trail blazing and partying (with young girls/women i might add) why should a mother deserve one second of their time or energy? So if this is what the new type of women want, vacations, parties and the lime light where are these kids really heading and what should they expect?

You know, in a way I agree and in a lot of ways I don't agree. If you have an issue with perfumes that's one thing. And by the way, Manuela did live a normal life like us folks before she met Prince and we don't know her well enough to know what she has been exposed to as far as the streets, so...

One of my Big Sisters from the Big Brother/Sister program came from a wealthy home. I came from a poor abusive household and I can tell you she has made a major positive impact on my life. She took me places, I spent time with her family and exposed me to things and people who broadened my knowledge to the world. We still keep in touch to this day.

I write this because based on the experience she gave me, I could care less what vacation she goes on, I don't care about her luxurious lifestyle, or how she spends here money. That has nothing to do with ME. I think you people need to think about what you're saying.

As someone who is involved in the community, I too get very upset when celebrities get recognition for charity, over those who do the grunt work, but it does not take away the fact that people do benefit from their charitable contributions and just because they are rich, does not mean that someone out there will not be helped by it.

Furthermore, don't get it twisted, a lot of these non-profit programs need MONEY and DONATIONS to survive and to carryon. Just doing the work does not cut it 100%.

I say this because as I read this, I'm wondering if you guys just have an angry chip on your shoulder towards people, like Manuela, who are rich. Why become so consumed with how others live their lives? Do I think Manuela should be placed up on a pedastle for what she's doing--NO. Do I think its' good YES.

Sorry, and no, I don't think Mani should b placed on a pedestal. The perfume thingy is for rich people, not everyone can afford that luxury. If Mani wasn't rich do U think that she'd be trying to make it look like she cared for kids?

I'm sorry but what kind of a statement is that? Perfume thingy is for rich people? Let me put the question out to everyone: Ladies? Gentlemen? Do you wear designer perfume? Are you rich? I'm not rich, but I like scents and aromas and Mani does too. She rich and I'm not and we both like perfumes. So what do you have to say about that? Yes, some people may not be able to afford it, but some of the money is going to be donated. If you not buying, then hey, more power, I'm not buying that stuff either, but I ain't gonna swear it off to say its for the rich.

Secondly, you're second statement is hypothetical. Do you know Mani, do you know anything about her before she met Prince to make a judgement that she does not care about kids. What about my mentor, she was rich, are you saying she didn't care about me?

I don't know Mani, so I'm not going to make a judgement either way. But I know my mentor, and I know she cares and still does, about me.

All I'm saying is that someone who professes that they care about kids, do what it takes, Be There. Don't be going on all these expensive vacations and collecting Swag. Be there when the real Mom or Dad who doesn't care or isn't able or there 2 care. Don't find Urself a millionaire rock star husband and then say U care. Is Manu there in the middle of the night for some child's cry or there when there's no food to feed them? Or is Manu trying to promote herself by saying she cares for kids? confuse

You are absolutely right, but my question is how do you know she's not there. What evidence do you have that she's is or is not. You don't follow her around all day and you've formed a judgement on someone you don't know. Do you know anything about her before she met Prince? You know for a fact she was not involved in the community? You know for a fact that she does not do any hands on work?

I can't make a judgement either way because I don't know her. That's all I'm saying. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Just playing devil's advocate here:

If you re-read the first post, you'll see that she's selling the perfumes to "rich" people to raise money for her foundation In A Perfect World (www.iapw.org) so that IAPW can donate money to non-profit organizations that support their mission. (More than half the proceeds will go to IAPW.)

From the IAPW website: The Foundation provides financial and expert programmatic assistance to partner organizations. The first community-based organization partnership was formed with Free Arts Minnesota, an organization that provides free art classes to at-risk-populations of children.

Furthermore, I think some of you have the mission of IAPW twisted--again from the website: The mission of this foundation is to help children around the country become compassionate, socially-conscious, and responsible leaders.

I see nothing on there about helping hungry, hurting, lonely children. She's trying to changing the way people think which will hopefully, in turn lead to a better world.

The IAPW website also shows pics of Mani and the other Board of Directors from IAPW at different activities. While she may not be downtown at the women's shelter in the middle of the night consoling crying children, at least she shows up at the events and "gets her hands dirty" which is more that can be said for a lot of 'celebrities.'

Did Prince go down to New Orlean's after Hurrican Katrina and help clean up? No, he wrote a song instead and donated the proceeds. So why isn't anyone busting on his ass about not helping the crying children in the middle of the night? (Again playing devil's advocate.)

I agree with wonder505--while Mani does not deserve the Nobel Prize for her work, at least she's doing something. (Same with Prince.) Which is more than can be said for a lot of people--celebrities or otherwise.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
