"I don't think Prince took his gift seriously".

I'm assuming that he was talking about Prince's '90s output.

I agree.

What is Alan Leed's gift exactly?

Apart from commenting on Artists that do have a musical gift (Prince, James Brown etc) that is?

At least his brother Eric plays the sax ...

I agree too!

He wasted so many years making songs with hot broads with no talent.

But still doing this the guy has like 2,000 unreleased songs & a new album almost every year for 25 years lol

so damn talk about me/us being picky lol lol

But he actually did I still agree

Yeah, I would have to read that in its full context...no doubt he has been chosen, but he's only human. I don't know how much MORE he could give us.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Well, he was as close to Prince as anyone for 10 years so I think his opinion holds a lot of weight. We can discuss the validity of his opinion though.

I've always been intrigued about Prince's ability to be the greatest composer and musician of the 20th century and his hunger to be out there in the mainstream ( AI performance, record deals with Universal etc.). It can't be easy to manage his own and others expectations. Still love him tho`.

It's EZ 2 give opinions on another man's LIFE but unless U WALK in his shoes, U can NEVER really know the depth of his soles and path.

Especialy when you give the opinion that you heard from Prince that he should be on tour right now wink

But seriously you are right. What Prince choses to do, or not to do, is none of my business really. It's just an interesting discussion.

That response is deserved but believe this, going in I knew the potential outcome. The ball bounces funny sometimes.....

Alan Leeds is one of the most powerful background figures in the music business. He's had insights and holds a knowledge I can only dream to have. The man has always been respectful, yet informative. And he certainly had more influence than his brother Eric. His comments are pretty much always right on the subject.

What exactly is
your qualification to make such a judgement?

His problem has always been that he's got too many balls in the air at the same time. That is a product of his genius. The man is just so great at so many things, his vision is extraordinary. I mean, he writes the songs, plays the instruments, directs the musicians, dances his ass off, conceptualizes the videos, dresses himself and the musicians, writes songs for others, plays his own manager and all-the-while has to remain a pretty man. lol

That's a perfect discription of the James Brown of the late 1960s. Except for the "pretty man" part. But at least the brother had style.

Playing instruments IS NOT A GIFT! It's an aquired talent which alot of so called geniuses haven't bothered to do(dre, timbaland, et.c).

Putting an album out every year isn't a gift; IT'S OBSESSIVE HARD WORK!

The 'gift' if you want to put it that way is the ability to create; WHAT YOU DO WITH THAT IS UP TO YOU AND TAKES HARD WORK, SKILL AND DEDICATION!

Dude does not take his talent for granted. He is putting out music all the time and touring all the time. Much more than a lot of artist.

If he took his talent for granted why does he work so hard.
