So who here has all the associates stuff?

I was just wondering because I know its all pretty much impossible to find.

The only stuff i'm really looking for is Jill's album, (mia bocca and all that on it) Carmen's album/s(don't remember if she had 2 or not), Taja Savelle and The Family's album.

I know some of yall probably have them all right??

Let's see... from back in the day... on vinyl I have:

  • Sheila's 1st 3 albums
  • The Time's 1st 3 albums
  • The Family
  • Jesse's 1st 2 albums plus the 3rd one on cassette
  • Mazerati
  • Apollonia 6
  • Jill Jones (on cassette)
  • Tamara & The Seen on cassete I copied from someone plus the 2nd album on cassette
  • Morris's 1st ablum on vinyl and 2nd one on cassette
  • I had St. Paul's 1st ablum on cassette which I loved but i can't find it anymore.
  • Madhouse 6 on Vinyl and Madhouse 16 on cassette
  • Taja Sevelle on Cassette (which I never listen to)

Once I moved to CDs.... I rebought a lot of stuff....including All of Sheila's Stuff and got Sex Cymbal and Heaven. All the TIme Albums (except the live one that jut came out). I evenutally got Jill Jones on eBay for like $50 which ended up being a bargain. Plus I got Vanity 6 via Columbia House before it became a collector's item. I also have various CDs like Carmen Electra, Bobby Z, Eric Leeds, and various CD Singles.

I have a CD-R version of the Family. And made my own version of Madhouse 6 using itunes.

For all of y'all who can't find stuff like the Family or Jill, just import your vinyl or cassette version into iTunes or whatever program you like and burn it.

Cnet.com has tutorials on how to do it. I used free software... just had to buy an 'imic' for $30 cuz my iBook didnt' have a line in but most computers do.

I have The family on wax but I'm looking for it on CD, and it doesn't have to be the REAL version, a copy of it will do. I also have Jill Jones on CD. I have some Sheile E. 12 inches too. I have Mazarati on CD, both albums.

Do you guys buy stuff from associated artists even if Prince had nothing to do with it? I tend to stick to stuff Prince wrote, co-wrote or produced.

And the idea about burning your vinyl and cassettes is great. The old CD's almost sound like cassettes anyway.

Man, I how could I forget to add my Wendy & Lisa albums to my list above??

I have the 1st one on vinyl, the 2nd one on cassette, and all 3 on CD as well (never got GirlBros though).

I also have various 12's on vinyl and cd singles I didn't bother to mention above.

In terms of burning vinyl to CD....

here is the CNET.com tutorial (which points out this is perfectly legal):
http://www.cnet.com/4520-...27168.html

I actually didn't follow that tutorial. I have a mac and basically used a program called Final Vinyl which is free for users of Griffin iMic (which I bought because my iBook needed it to run the line in).

http://www.griffintechnol..._imic.html

I didn;'t bother trying to remove hiss or anything. I basicaly play the album into Final Vinyl, then cut them into tracks and convert to MP3.

Then I use iTunes to burn an Audio CD. (the original AIFF files are really big and I don't want to keep themon my computer, so I just save the MP3s on the computer, but iTuens can burn a regular audio cd).

Hope this helps.

BTS, I'm impressed with those who have official Family or Madhouse CDs! smile

I'm after everything, whether Prince had anything to do with it or not - I have everything he did have something to do with, and much of what he didn't, which I find way more interesting these days.

Ta Mara & The Seen, Jesse Johnson, Vanity's solo LPs, that kinda thing, great stuff smile

Me too.

EXCEPT: Vanity's first album, because I loved it at the time and still do.

AND Sheila's "Sex Cymbal" album. I have, but am not so much a fan of her later E-train jazzy Jesus work.

AND anything Wendy & Lisa, but they're in a whole other category for me.
let me come over it's a beautiful day to play with you in the dark

Wow VainAndy..... that was very thorough and impressive! smile

I didn't get into all the 12"s and singles I had...And I think I left out some of my Jesse stuff and dint' think to include Jody Watley (which I just got her "Intimacy Album" on ebay last week. I had her 1st 2 albums on various formats.

I also got from the same guy on ebay The Day-Zs based on stuff I read on here, although haven't listened to it yet.

QUESTION: How is Da Krash? Is it very Jesse's 1st two albums sounding? Be Your Man is one of my favs... heavy synths etc..... IF so I might try and track it down.

Got just about everything - I remember back in the day when there were 3 of us (you know who you are) who hung out in London every weekend just flicking vinyl in every second hand store we knew, pulling out every minneapolis 12" or album and then splitting it all up amongst ourselves. sh*t, i remember the day when one of us found the first Andre Cymone album after years of searching - the other 2 were just gutted, and then amazingly we all found copies within about a month!

we were crazy - i mean, who really needs 5 different promo 12"s of Tony LeMans 'Higher Than High' or Jesse's 'Crazay' - well, we all did !!

ah - great memories. ebay has taken all the fun out of collecting don't y'all think?

Thanks. I have a few more 45s and 12 Inches also. A lot of the albums had opening singles that came out maybe a month or so before the album was released. Being the fan that I was, I had to have the songs as soon as I heard them and couldn't wait for the albums to come out. lol I only listed the ones I could think of that had a different version than the album or a non-album B Side.

Also, some of the 45s such as the two Andre Cymone ones I have, are slightly different versions than the album. The 45 of "Kelly's Eyes" is the same as the album version in length but has new wave sounding double handclaps throughout the song that the album version doesn't have. "Lipstick Lover", the 45, is an edited version of the 12 Inch, which I still haven't found.

QUESTION: How is Da Krash? Is it very Jesse's 1st two albums sounding? Be Your Man is one of my favs... heavy synths etc..... IF so I might try and track it down.

To me, the Da Krash album sounds along the same lines as Jesse Johnson's third album, just not quite as good. I haven't listened to the album in it's entirety in years. Mainly the only two tracks I listen to are "Trapped In Phases" and "Wasn't I Good To Ya".....the two funkiest tracks on the album. I need to pull it out and listen to it some more now that I am much older and my tastes have broadened much more.

"Trapped In Phases" (one of the most uptempo tracks on the album) reminds me of Jesse Johnson's "Color Shock". It has the same sounding type drum machines as the song but with more synths. "Wasn't I Good To Ya" is a funk track that sounds similar to what Jesse was doing around the time of his third album. I can't remember what the other tracks sound like because I have listened to them in years. I remember one song resembling Mazarati's "Lonely Girl On Bourbon Street" which I used to hate back in the day but can listen to now. As I said, I need to listen to it more, now that my tastes have broadened to give you a more accurate description. I can tell you that it doesn't sound much like Jesse's first two albums though.

You should still try to find it though because some of the other tracks may catch your instantly that didn't catch mine. From what I remember about the album, without pulling it and listening to it again, it reminded me of Jesse's third album but with less funk and more of a rock edge.

I agree with vainandy re. daKrash - sounds like outtakes from 'every shade of love' - lots of trademark snare crashes which make yo' ears bleed thru' headphones!

On the Andre Cymone, a few of the 12"s have alternative mixes - from memory Survivin' In The 80's, Lipstick Lover and Satisfaction. Makes Me Wanna Dance also has an instrumental version, along with the most hilarious picture of Andre ever on the back cover.

I'm currently willing to part with my vinyl (for space reasons sad ) org note me if there's anything you really want and maybe we can sort out a deal.
