no, the reasons good forums work is because they set rules and people follow them and mods issue infractions when people don't. shite forums let people post whatever shite they want and the forums suffer as a result. this forum has been on the go for about 15 years since the 90s. it's into it's third decade now. it didn't last so long by letting people do what they want
and i'm not angry or stressed or worked up about it. there's a lot of humour in what i type

Actually, it's entirely relevant. The threads are made to taunt the people who react to it. People are well aware by now that all MJ content is relegated to the sticky because otherwise not only would you have the list above, but you'd have songs of his spanning 40 years with their own threads.
We know this to be true because the biggest culprit for these shenanigans, mjcarousal, laughs about it when she makes the threads or replies to threads about it. I believe her typical quote is that she's going to "get mines in before the lock." Well, if that isn't blatant disregard for the rules, I dunno what is.
Furthermore, the rules are put in place for a reason. Just because -you- and your buddies don't agree with that reason doesn't mean you have carte blanche to break the rules. If MJ is your favorite, that is totally cool (and understandable - MJ was awesme). However, most MJ fans are rabid and disrespecting as is evidenced by this very thread. They don't care about it being a 'music' forum. They have, time and time again, even begged for a subforum of their own.
What's with the obsession about the org? Go to a place where your discussion remains unfettered. If you want to post here, though, you have to agree to the rules. Any breaking of those rules puts you in direct risk of consequences. The fact repeat offenders haven't been banned yet is puzzling, but merely a matter of time. It's happened before.

The people that get their knickers in a knot over MJ are the ones that should check themselves IMO. Yeah, there are some idiots that are MJ fans. Such is fucking life! If complaining about MJs threads is how you like to spend time, that's a very sad existence. Go immerse yourself in something you enjoy, you fools. LOL!
The sticky is a load of BS. It's an absolutely maddeningly awkward and faltering way to try and talk about music topics of interest. And it plain doesn't work.
It sucks and I avoid it at all costs although I'd be well keen to join in conversations about specific MJ music topics. Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

By the way, I'm not talking directly to you Spinlight, you usually try to see things from all sides, I'm just adding on to the conversation in general.

I think the sticky is BS too, but I respect why its necessary. And I don't really know anyone who sits around and complains about it ad nauseum, but its called out when it happens like any rule would be. When people call someone a name, people get up in arms about it, for example.
The sticky does work in the longrun because it contains the garbage. At least, it used to when there was more than 1 mod at any given time. Sometimes there's zero mods at any given time. And we just got like 4 new mods! Talk about something plain not workin'! We should do away with all the mods!

Can I ask why this thread was locked? http://prince.org/msg/8/378752 . I know I'm supposed to contact a mod privately, but since tons of people are wondering why it was locked, I think a public response would be helpful (rather than every curious person having to message the mods). That was not a Michael Jackson thread. It is news pertaining to the living Jacksons, and had little, if anything to do with Michael.
I'm fine with the MJ threads being locked, including the "feat. MJ" threads, but this thread clearly was not intended to discuss Michael, and for the most part, people weren't talking about Michael. I don't think the other Jacksons doing a reunion tour belongs in the MJ sticky. If the mods disagree, then perhaps the sticky needs to be retitled "Discuss Anything and Everything Jacksons", so nobody will be confused.

Completely irrational and absolute bullshit (the locking). I hope others notice it's being mentioned here. Talk about obsessive control. Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

You should have still asked the Mod directly

most Jackson threads (like this) turn into a MJ thread, has nothing to do with obsessive control. That's just a little too umm obsessively defined lol

The thread got reported by some folks as it had turned in an MJ thread. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

Thanks for the answers, and I will just message the mods next time.
Hopefully we can find a way to have a thread about The Jacksons' reunion tour that won't get locked, because it is news that a lot of people are interested in, and a lot of people don't like going in the MJ sticky for whatever reason.

If you do it again notify a Mod to help keep it on track.
That way we can SNIP any posts that go off track

Yes! It is obsessive control. That other thread was perfectly on topic.
If you had bothered to actually read the thread, before locking it, you would have seen that it was totally on topic. It's only natural that Michael's name is mentioned here and there on a Jackson family thread. But still, the emphasis was on the reunion tour and not on Michael. There was no need to lock that thread whatsoever, except some fools seeing red whenever the names Michael and Jackson is mentioned.

Nothing obsessively controlling about it all. But thanks for your thoughts. We go thru far too many Jackson threads that turn MJ, nothing controlling about it. Jackson.org

Yeah, if you have actually controlled it, you would have seen that there would have been no reason to lock it. So I should say, "obsessively locking" Jackson threads. And well, sometimes Michael just comes up in a natural flow of discussion. Nothing wrong with that.

I didn't lock it.
And most member tend to have a problem with things going the direction of MJ, which is why there is a big MJ sticky going on.
it the way of the .org | |

^^I meant "you" as in "you moderators"... and "most members"?? You mean you're getting messages from 100s (or 1000s) of members complaining about MJ threads? Or do you mean with "most members" the 3 or 4 fools, who can't stand when anyone is mentioning MJ? [Edited 4/9/12 13:33pm]
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well it doesn't take 5 Moderators to lock a thread
And yes we get tones of people (active members) notifying us of MJ threads and topics turning into MJ issues
