I have been very surprised how unsuccessful and unpopular the return of HQ as Moquake was. The website is pretty dead and it sounds like they have a bruised ego over Dr Funkenberry getting the scoops now.

If I recall correctly, when they ran the backstage contest, one of the "guests" of a winner who was ill asked if the winner could meet Prince.

They were told that they'd try but as it was before a gig, Prince wouldn't meet anyone, regardless of their health.

When the write ups occured on MoQuake, the guest made a pretty scathing attack on Prince and didn't once thank either Prince's team or MoQuake for actually getting the chance to go backstage and meet the band.

This is all from memory so I may be wrong but I'm guessing that P's team were pretty pissed with the fanbase for the blatant show of ungratitude and decided not to let fans backstage again.

It sounds more like they're frustrated that news goes through a celebrity gossip column rather than through fansites such as the org or mq. If you read the article, it's more that Prince doesn't want to liaise with the fanbase rather than just them.

Very sad. I hope that prince.org does not follow. Has someone communicated with them about preserving the "known fakes" information about counterfeit CDs that was originally taken from Housequake? I started a similar thread in The Marketplace thread here but did not copy the images from MoQuake.

the story is basically along those lines. it obviously had a big and negative effect for it to be mentoned a year on, and in particular in a thread by the site owner announcing the site closure

there was no mention of meeting prince in the first place, it was a free competition they got what was offered, and they bitched about it. the first time prince let fans backstage for a competition, and probably the last because of that. and it's the very reason why people aren't let backstage in the first place

housequake was closed not by prince but because the owner was pissed off by prince and his peoples actions. now moquake is closed not by prince but because of a mix of prince, his people and his fans actions

no official site, the fansites closing down, it's not a good sign. fortunately ben has taken a step back from the org to just let it be, and we are in the third decade of it's existance. hopefully more quakers return back to the org and start building things back up here. perhaps creating some new forums to seperate the serious discussion from the banter that keeps this place alive, so the best of both worlds are on one site

For me, I think that's a bad thing. I can't stand people complaining that the discussions over here aren't "serious". They are taking themselves way too seriously. It's Prince for Christ's sake, it's not some science forum! If people want to discuss his music but also his chest hair or something, why the fuck not? So... please make another site, where you can go and be adults, where it's "all about the music" instead of complaining over here.

I'm still happy that Princevault exists, that's a really good site.

When I heard the news, I yawned.

Not to sound like an ass, but the site was no fun. Moquake has always been dead IMO. It's the reason why I moved on to the org because of the larger community and the enthusiasm that fans (some of them) have to offer here. Many people have said otherwise and act like it was the best Prince fan website EVER, but these are my two cents and I say it's NOT.

If I saw something like "RIP the Org", maybe I'd react.

I was a big fan of Housequake.

When it stopped operating I, like many others, migrated across here. And stayed every since.

When MoQuake reopened I gave it a shot but didn't seen the point of visiting both sites so stuck here.

I know the people running it were passionate but I think sadly once Housequake shut down they would never regain the same kind of traffic.

It's like everyone migrated to facebook and never looked back on myspace.

I think its gone because it was too positive. Websites & blogs 2day have 2 b very negative like the majority of the people that visit this site. People like 2 hear scandal & gossip & tear eachother down or else they get bored.

RIP Moquake. Although i do think it's a good idea to split PM&M into seperate sections so those that want to talk shit can and those that want to talk prince can but seperately. Having to wade through the Vs threads is a pain in the arse! lol

by 3 decades he means: the org started late 90's, and because we're 2011 the third decade has just begun.

30 years ago, the internet wasn't even available for public.

It's best to let your site be UNCONNECTED officially to Prince. Or any fan site for that matter should not be officially connected to the target of the fandom.

Running anything about Prince is a thankless task.

Shame about Moquake,, but I hope Gav keeps his fan toe in here. I have always found him to be wonderfully helpful throughout the years

Why are they closing if Prince didn't sue them? If they wanted more people to sign up, they could have added interesting things to the website

One decade is 10 years, times that by 3, that makes 30. When I saw third decade, I thought unique meant it's been around for that long, but as MISTERHANDS clarified, the 3rd decade has just begun.

I. for one, will be really sorry to see Moquake go. I quite enjoyed the thoughtful and knowledgeable threads on that site. It's still a baby! I hope that Gav and the people who spent so much time and hard work will reconsider...or at least keep a facebook page going, as has been suggested. Too many Prince internet sites have been disappearing recently. It is sad to see the demise of yet another one... sad

Yep, that's what I said I thought he meant. That is why I said someone already clarified that I misunderstood what was said - as I stated.
