It is not legimate. But like I said to Serge, everyone is free to think what he/she wants. Anyway, I will no longer try to give an explanation for what happened since some of you rather make your own conclusions.

It is great to see that some (ex-)quakers have found their way to the org. and to this thread!

Altough the org. is fine place I do miss HQ and the people!

It sure is a sad development with the (hopefully temporary) closing of HQ and not in the least the, mildly spoken, disappointing "opening" of lotusflow3r. Sure through time and experience one learns not to expect too much but I must admit I got tempted by the first few songs which really did it for me (C&C and Colonized Mind).

Tja the site ... rather childish in its appearance and certainly a disaster strategically: teaser after teaser after teaser. A person averagely interested in the music will probably not waste more time visiting the site.

Such a shame ...

Anyway, happy to hear some voices from HQ!!!

That is correct. "org time" is set at US PST (Pacific Standard Time) and unfortunately there's not a way to change what you see on your personal display.

Generally speaking, we allow one thread per topic. Since this thread was already started the other was locked. Nothing personal.

Serge.... just leave it be... you know the dance... you know you are right. Your 'logical' conclusion was already given credibility by Gav.

Gav said:

...A couple of weeks ago, one member put together some excellent lotusflower "inspired" banners that used a symbol that looked a bit like Prince's but with a flower modification. As they didn't infringe copyright, we took the decision to put these live, along with the official banners we were supplied directly by P.

Roughly 24 hours later, we got a very blunt email saying "this must be removed" from one of his team. We tried to discuss this explaining that it's very difficult to have a fan website that doesn't have a picture of Prince or even show his symbol, however P was adamant that we don't "imply official status".

As someone else noticed on this thread, this was quite frankly the straw that broke the camels back and Aaron came to the belief that this really isn't a fun thing to do any more....

So if the banner didn't lead to problems... then Gav fed us all a line of BS. And I simply don't beleive he did. Could there be more...? Sure... but it was still a logical conclusion, supported by the explanation given. Case closed.

Otherwise.... just ignore me. I'm only here getting the scoop on the Who's Who. I say welcome to the Org former HQ'ers. But to a couple of you....

you know who you are... and you definitely know why.

P.S. To a Mod...
Wouldn't this topic be best served in the General Discussion forum as it relates to members...not to Prince.org itself. Also it may get the visibility the OP desired.

As I said, the banner was a MINOR issue that caused mails to go back and forth.

We'd previously been given a guideline that we not use prince' face or any copyrighted images in the header. Regardless of whether the "symbol" is legally copyrighted (a whole issue in itself) then from a LEGAL standpoint, the banner used was within the law (it used the soapstone alchemy symbol with a flower on the top - not "Prince's" symbol).

We then received an email TELLING us to change it from one of his staff who has a habit of not working WITH the fans to solve things. This was quickly jumped by a member of staff who does have interpersonal skills and we were discussing what would and what wouldn't offend P - actually to good effect and we were resolving things.

However, as I've stated on this thread an others, Aaron had been feeling pretty down about HQ for some time and had been thinking about closing the site for over a year now. When I started to discuss the latest issue at hand, I think Aaron asked himself the question "why do I do this?" and couldn't really answer the question - a fair call if you ask me.

So to answer the question - was this about a header ? The blunt answer is "no" as it was about Prince's many many requests (trust me, you don't see 99% of the issues that come up on a regular basis), however the banner was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

You know the most annoying thing about this ? People that say "I told you so" when it achieves nothing - it just makes them look like a smart-arsed 10 year old. If that's how people get kicks then fair enough but me - I just try to look out for fellow fans, that's all. I guess some people just have empty lives, oh well.

Anyway, it's nice to be "fully" back on the org - please pardon my temporary departure for a few years lol

I still have to adjust to the org. I just wish HQ didnt have to close so sudden. Aaron couldve at least give a warning, so members could adjust to the idea. Besides that I fully respect and understand Aaron's decision. It's just a hobby after all and who needs the constant hassle.
Somehow I still hope HQ or something similar will return. After being 7 years on that site on a daily basis I feel like ready for rehab razz wink

I saw what Gav wrote and it was interesting but I still believe that Aaron should have kept the site going until he could find someone who could take up the helm of running the site and paying for the costs and whatever else needed to be done to keep HQ running. I respect the work Aaron's done with the site but I still think he did this wrong. Just because he thought it wasn't "Fun" anymore doesn't mean that I and other members of the site needed to suffer by not being able to go to the site. Even if he was going to close the site, at least give the members of the site time to say goodbye and to get e-mails from other members if they didn't want to come here to the org. It was the least he could do, if this is really "the end" of HQ. This thought just came to me and I could be wrong here but Aaron did to HQ EXACTLY the same thing Prince did with NPGMC in 2006. Without a moment's notice, the site was gone. Funny how all of that works.

Hi to all...same user name here as i have/ had at HQ. Great to see so many ppl I recognise. Am also a member here, have been for awhile but will admit I tended to post over at HQ. Nonetheless I'm very pleased at the warm reception 'full timers' here on the org, including mods, are giving us. Thank you all cool .

I also hope HQ returns because, as history has showed, there's more than enough room for several unofficial sites, and i miss HQ!

It's his PERSONAL HOBBY. It's not a public service website.

To compare the NPGMC, a commercial entity which CHARGED for membership to Housequake.com is quite frankly ludicrous.

It's a "personal hobby" that had thousands and thousands of members in it. We deserved better than this because he got us involved in his "hobby". I compared the end of HQ to the end of NPGMC, not the sites as a whole so relax.
