HQ had a legal advisor to make sure everything they did was within the law.
As for not being allowed to use the symbol. I've seen his symbol used multiple times in this thread, and not in the context of his former name.



Ironic that Prince didnt want HQ to be mistaken for an "official site" - as such he wanted his own official banners on the site.

I'd be surprised if the banners were even the cause. It seems much more about control. Prince wanting to prove he can force his fansites to bend to his will and if they refuse he'll just make things as difficult as possible for them.
