hmmm

Wingnut, a term used to describe a person who is currently, or has been in the past, completely out of their mind.

Wingnut (politics), a derogatory term for a person who holds strongly right-wing political beliefs.

Yeah - comming from a person with a noted history of flamming fellow orgers
( that would be Phil ! )

That is a flame
thumbs up!

Yes i did. I use it all the time here as a jokey put down. Plus given it has so many meanings, i mean we have 4 so far, would it not be prudent to determine the context and situation before issuing a 48hr ban?

Anyway...its done now. Aint no point raising it with the mod...been there, fuck all happened, only way is to resort to the pussy route and just "report to mod" for anything we dont like hug

I remember the good old days when flaming was really flaming and people actually had a modicum of backbone. Nowadays the PC brigade rule the roost. (present mod excepted)

Speaking as someone from the Shires of England, and speaking the mother tongue, Wingnut is simply slang for someone with big ears.

Hardly a flame.

Are we to assume we go by the US barstardisation of the language only on the org?

I don't assume that - never have

It would be like assuming everything posted was meant with a British background intent attached to it - I know this sight is visited by people the world over not just Americans and Brits
lol

If I was called a wingnut by a brit ( even phil ! ) I would feel insulted shrug I do not have big ears wink thus it could be seen as a flame of personal insult to the orger it was directed at EVEN if it only means a person with big ears ( a joke ) to Brits

If a person feels insulted by anothers so called humour their feelings are just as valid as the person who tossed out the so called humour ( joke )

One mans humour is another mans heartache - so it is said

Apparently so.....joke huh?

Perhaps to you Phil it was/is

It wasn't to the person you threw the so called "joke" at

is that persons feelings less important then yours on the subject Phil ?

say you have a son ... and one day you joke and call him a wingnut and he looks at you with tears in his eyes and expresses to you that your words towards him - your joke - hurt him deeply

are you going to then try to laugh it off and tell him his feelings about your words towards him are a joke ?

Anyway - we are all allowed our opinions on it being a flame or not
and like I already said - with your flame history and the content of the sentence it was in ...

No it was no less important, but as usual the assumption is that the US meaning of a word in ENGLISH is what is meant. I guess us ENGLISH people get pissed at being told what our language means and what we can and cant say. Plus this was not a child, this was a grown person with reasoning powers and an adult mind (i can only assume) Like i said though i just hope in the spirit of equality as you stated above that ALL those who flame get the same assumption laid upon their words when reported and they have a "history"
