Scottish Org Meetup!

Hi guys,

Just testing the water to see if there is any interest in a Scottish Prince.org meetup? A few drinks, some curry, a few laughs. Something like that. Anyone up for it?

I'm in Dundee. I know there are some Orgers in Glasgow and Aberdeen, and a few other places. Maybe Edinburgh is a good place to meet then?

If you are intereted, post in this thread. If enough people are up for it, we can find a date (some weekend that suits everyone) and make it happen.

Cheers

Ian

EDIT: The Edinburgh Meetup is happening a 4PM on the 25th of OCTOBER. The location is the bar PIVO on 2 carlton road (further directions below).

edinburgh would b good. the weedgie meetup fell thru. at least in edinburgh it would b easy 2 find a venue and an easy place 2 meetup. as most folks were from outside glasgow rather than the city centre they had 2 travel anyways, and they didn't know the centre of town 2 well

if there is reasonable interest we may b able 2 get a venue so we can play music etc

Now I'm scared.

Count me in though, nothing ventured...

I live in Edinburgh so that sounds like a good place to meet up. biggrin

Might be worth throwing the invitation open to anyone in the UK? Not too far to travel is it? (easy for me to say!)

cheers.

What a great idea. Definitely up for a Prince meet up of some sort. Can see that as of now, there's only been a few replies on prince.org but surely there will be a few more who would come to such an event?

I live in Leith and I'm a musician, I can help or support the organizing of the proposed get together. For example, coordinate the event, find and book suitable venue(s), do web pages etc.

I think it would be good to find somewhere we can have sounds, eat, drink and meet up. A weekend would be best for most people I guess, although I play on Tuesday and Saturday nights at The Shore Bar in Leith with my trio so would prefer another night for me.

Seems the first thing we must do is make a subscription list. I'm happy to make a web site for a Scottish based Prince fanbase, if one doesn't already exist. Perhaps then we would have a focus for doing events. Although Prince.org is the best place to start.

If not, what's the sound on meeting at The World's End on the Royal Mile on the last Saturday of this month (September)?

That was six days ago!

I must have been drunk, because I can't remember a thing! wink

I think we should all go to different pubs and text each others mobiles. That way it'll be just like to Org! smile

ok, so its the case of setting up a date then

how about making it saturday 25th october? the last saturday of the month? meetup in edinburgh, venue to be arranged

so far there is only 7 folks here replied that wanna come, now im sure i can get a few more folks 2 come and if some of u bring friends then we can get a half decent turnout

if ian can get some kinda posting on the front page, more folks will c it and click on this link, cuz the forums may not b checked and this can easily b overlooked by ppl who would go if they knew. i 4 1 dont normally read the forums

i would suggest we arrange a meetup around midday, somewhere in central edinburgh like leith. if we meetup in the afternoon it will allow folks who have 2 travel 2 turn up and also get home at a reasonable time without having 2 stay overnight. u can get bed and breakfasts easily enough in town around £40 or less as its offpeak season.

if we can get a venue 2 accomodate us it would b good, particularly if we can meetup in the afternoon and stay their all nite, or say get a place 4 the afternoon and then move around at nite, or meetup in the afternoon somewhere and have a place booked 4 the nite, i dunno if most places would let us book a place all afternoon and nite on a saturday, and also u may get bored being in the same place all day and nite

i dunno if infinitytrio knows anywhere we can get 4 say 20-50 folks at no charge where we can play our own music? i live in leith and can supply the music, just need the soundsystem and venue. i djed at most of the edinburgh/uk prince nites over the past 10 years so i have all the music we need, i can make up cds of mellow stuff 4 the afternoon and then some lively stuff 4 the nite

i suggest folks put thier suggestsions on this thread, but u can always orgnote me if u like. had i checked this thread sooner i mightve went 2 the shore bar last nite, i might check it out next saturday, i doubt they would let us have a prince meetup really, they do ok normally anyways i think and its pretty small, there aint a place 4 us 2 hide thru the back. perhaps a venue that has a back room/lounge that we can have 4 ourselves would b best

Count me in for the 25th. A front page link would be ideal (Ian?) and if a club venue is booked, I could certainly bring about 10 folks with me.

Great posting unique. I'm up for all of that. The links in this posting take you to maps if you wanna see where everything is, get your bearings like.

I play piano with my trio Saturday nights at the Shore Bar, so please can we have it another night otherwise I guess I'll have to come to the early bit, leave to play at 10 and if there's anything still going on after midnight, then I'll catch up.

We played Sometimes It Snows In April last night, Steve from PRS was there, so it's one in the bag from me to the purple one. A punter told John at the bar that we were ...'the best power trio in Edinburgh'. Leave your preconceptions behind, we jam.

Can't see a meet in The Shore happening with decks, there's an issue with the flat upstairs. They got a double cassette! player for background music, so?

However, I am definitely / infinitely up for seeing you guys down there for a planning session? And I can pave the way, I been working there twice a week for over two years, they're like my family.

May be I can get some more Prince tunes together, but it just won't be like the 'real' thing I know.

Club Java on Dock St. might be up for it, or the big bar in Ocean Terminal, there's a lot of bars in Leith. Maybe The Compass on the corner of Constitution and Queen Charlotte, jeez, they're logo's a bit similar to N.E.W.S. artwork.

Seems we're inching our way towards a good night though and I don't wanna miss it.

Keep this up, we're going to have a party.

John

Well, thinking about this, the best place might be The old Bongo Club, it's empty (they've moved to Moray Hall in the High Street now and having an opening party on Friday next), but the point is the old place is empty, I know them so I'll make enquiries, it will definately HAVE to be private and by subsciption to cover insurance etc. I'll think of the problem more and get back.

The tough call is finding somewhere for nothing! But I'm a cheap skate so if anyone can...

i did a prince nite at the bongo club b4 and it went a bit pear shaped, so i'd rather not do it there, anyways if the place is empty there will b no bar and prolly no p.a. or facilities, a bar that has a backroom would b best. club java is way 2 big, gr8 venue but ive never seen it looking busy cuz of the site of it, bar java is prolly more our size, but i think they have small bands playing 2

i dont know the compass bar, i think ocean termanal wouldnt b a good idea, 2 posh and imposing and they prolly wouldnt put up with much agro

thing about saturday rather than friday is cuz most ppl work mon-fri and if it was friday it would have 2 b evening and then come the time folks would b moaning cuz they were 2 tired and all that, with the full day on a saturday folks can come afternoon or nite, if we find a place in leith we could finish up at 10pm and head off 2 c ure band play

if we cant find a venue 2 put up with us and our music we can just turn up at a place not expecting anything, but then persuade the bar folks 2 put on a cd 4 us

we don't want no pear shaped bongo, ocean terminal is for yuppies, compass is still the slammer bar by another name, bar java... ok these are no nos i agree with you unique, not the first time my suggestions have been s***

how about the pond down salamander street on the corner of bath road, it's laid back, small, fish in tanks and they're likely to put on cds i reckon.

lot of pressure on bars on saturday nights so i we should grab somewhere early

You guys seem to have an advantage over me in the organising stakes, I haven't a clue about venues, etc.. I'll leave it to you! smile

Reading through the posts, might it be worth considering the size of the night. Ie, do we want a full club night? Or just a few folks enjoying a few beers? My thoughts are keep it relatively simple first time out, if it's a good night, another more ambitious night can be planned later.

All looks positive though.

cheers

Seems the date's becoming unfixed. We got to settle on a date no? Or how about we say, e.g. the first or last Saturday of each month at some place or other. We got to get a grip if the meet is going to happen.
