Oh, can anyone recommend hotels or B&Bs in the area, for people who are travelling?

I know there's an Ibis hotel quite centrally located that is quite affordable.

hi, there r plenty of b&b's around, particularly in macdonald road, half way down leith walk, its not far from the bar pivot, there r a few all next 2 each other, i doubt they will b busy in october, and i also doubt they will advertise on the net, ure prolly talking £35/£40 a nite, i dunno how much the ibis is, there is also the jury's inn thats another hotel thats close that i think aint 2 expensive. as its offpeak u should have no bother getting a place on the day, have a look at yell.co.uk 4 hotels and b&b's and c whats in macdonald road, there r no hotels there, just bnb's and i think they r all the same price, nothing fancy mind

maybe infiniti can help out here with suggestions. living in town means u dont really pay much attention 2 hotels cuz u dont need 2 stay in em. certainly 4 less than £50 u'll get a place no bother, u should get something maybe even £35/£40 if money is a big issue, but if u can get a nice place like ibis 4 £50 then personally i would take that 4 the xtra tenner

Hotels? Umm... one idea is to block book a hotel for a reduction. Hotels do negotiate tariffs. Visiting friends & colleagues have done this with Ibis for example.

What number of people can we get some quotes on? 20? 200?

Use the hotel as an afterparty venue in the absence of some of the alternatives?

Sign in lads & lassies, more us hosts know, more prep. we can do.

I would be looking for somewhere to stay the night, if there are others in the same boat it would be good if some of us could arrange to stay in the same place (it would stop my mother freaking out at the thought of me wandering round Edinburgh myself at night! eyepop ), B&B or hotel doesn't matter, i'm eezyozy.

Thanks infinitetrio for those travel times by the way thumbs up!

don't worry, i think we're talking around 20 folks, dunno how many will b staying in a hotel, but the city centre is small and plenty of places 2 stay in the city centre, all within easy walking distance, or if u can get a taxi it'll cost u £5 tops, it's harder 2 get a taxi at 3am when all the clubs chuck the punters out, but i wouldn't worry about it. u can even b so bold as 2 leave getting a place 2 stay until the day itself or day b4, cuz its off season and there r so many places 2 stay, theres a place at the tron, thats new and pretty good and not xpensive but i cant remember the name, plus the ibis is in the grassmarket, thats not far away, or the bnb's in macdonald road r just down from pivo

as there will b at least a couple of edinburgh locals u'll b in fine company, we'll make sure wherever u go u go in the right (safest) direction or share a cab or whatever 2 make sure u get there in 1 drunken piece

maybe infiniti can put u all up in his vw camper van? a taxi and accomodation and venue all rolled in2 1?

Yeah I'm gonna stay over in Edinburgh probably, I hate having to dash off for the last train. So, I'll be booking a hotel somewhere pretty central.

no need 2 book a place so early, i noticed walking around there r millions of guest houses, so if i can b bothered ill maybe call a few and check the prices, theres a few nice 1s round the corner from where i live, which is close 2 macdonald road, in the leith area, which is very central

Of course, if anyone is heading from Dundee and fancies giving me a lift... it'll hurt Scotrail, which can only be a good thing mr.green

If anyone at Pivo is wearing moon earwraps, or purple lacy assless pants, I'm running all the way back to Dundee though! nod

biggrin Haha well don't go out of your way or anything... if you pass by Dundee that'd be great, but otherwise it's no trouble for me to get the train smile

Don't worry being crap at map reading isn't specific to your gender, I'm useless with navigation too!

regarding accomodation, if u have a look at www.yell.co.uk and search 4 guest houses u'll get a few places, and then do a seach on mapquest or whatever 2 c how close u r 2 the venue. macdonald road and pilrig street r close by with plenty 2 choose from. pick a single digit postcode, ie EH7 or EH1 rather than EH15 and ull b in the city centre.

u might want 2 try the ibis hotel at the tron which is 5 mins walk from pivo, a new and decent and i believe reasonably priced hotel.

i would suggest u phone the places rather than check online prices, as u'll get the best deals that way. remember its off season so u should get a good deal

http://search.yell.com/se...fb5&mqs=xi

also, regarding the hip hop club i mentioned, i couldnt c the exact poster close up, but i saw a few other posters 4 a venue called caberet voltaire, no, not an 80s throwback club, but its the current name 4 the venue 4merly known as the honeycomb, which is a pretty decent venue in blair street, which is a stones throw literally from the ibis hotel, and 5 mins walk, or 10 if drunk, from pivo. im pretty certain thats the venue 4 ginuwine which is a monthly hip hop / rnb club, something of a rarity in edinbugh. this could b the ideal late nite venue after pivo. it'll b open till 3am, admission prolly £8 max, and as its a hip hop club, pretty much relaxed dress code, gold chain's, uzi's and clothing 6 sizes 2 big, etc. and of course the obligatory air force one's and baseball caps

between pivo in the afternoon and clubbing, we could also go 4 something 2 eat somewhere, there r plenty of places 2 choose from. if we dont wanna stop, burger king is 1 minute from pivo, pizza hut 3 mins away, both places 2 suit groups and quickness and drunken ppl. or we could go somewhere close by that serves actual food. would b helpful 2 know if any1 is interested in this, and what kinda food. if every1 is easy, i can find a place no bother, like guiliano's (italian), or there is china china, a suff ure face silly buffet just down from pivo that lets in any1, its about £10 or less and u just wait till tables r free and get served (this could b a good and cheap option, no booking required tho it can get busy, but say max 30 min wait)

any1 got any more ideas or thoughts?

curry is the 1 food i normally avoid cuz it gives u the shits real bad. its also not the most appropriate food 4 a get 2gether

i actually have an xcellent indian takeaway round the corner from me, but its takeaway only, theres a good takeaway about 10 mins walk up the bridges from the ibis, but its 1 that closes early

id rather not spend the night with my arse on fire, farting away like a motherfucker, and i'd rather every1 else wasn't pumping mo gas than shell, so how about some normal british food like pizza or chinese takeaway? u can always get a kebab afterwards, the kebab shops r open till about 4am or 5am

there will probably b around 20 folks coming, which aint bad at all 4 a get 2gether

regarding food, thinking about it, as we won't know the exacly numbers until the date, probably going 2 either pizza hut or the chinese buffet place is the best option as u don't need 2 book in advance and everything is very informal. of course on the day itself when every1 turns up we can discuss this further, and perhaps even make a telephone booking on the day and c if we can find anywhere else that'll have us

were still awaiting confirmation of if we can play music and dvds or not, but hopefully that'll get sorted in the next day or so
