Directions to The Pond, while there are few locations to meet in Leith, this is the one that for me is most suitable, quiet, reasonable vibe, may play your CDs etc. Have a look, click here to see map of The Pond location.
Directions: Bus to the Foot Of The Walk, then 5 minutes walk. Go: right down Duke Street, turn first left Academy Street, into Leith Links, follow path over Leith Links straight over to Salamander Place, The Pond is at the traffic lights on the corner of Bath & Salamander.

Otherwise for ease of access for folk coming a distance I wouldn't suggest Leith at all, it adds 25 minutes to the journey time from Princess Street. Somewhere in town might be easier and more convenient. More choice too, so could meet and move on.

ok, so me, infiniti, muirdo r confirmed

ian, bal, mcmeekle and 23, r u coming on the 25th october?

im gonna meetup with infiniti and sort out the best place 2 meetup, somewhere that should b easy enuff 4 u 2 get 2 with the least amount of time and hassle, either in leith or uptown near prince's street (maybe number 7 prince's street as it's appropriately named and tony m work's 4 the company, and the food and drink's r cheap at burger king)

once i've sorted out a venue i'll post the details and then i'll put out some personal invites 2 a few other folks, but if u guys can start asking folks if they r coming or not we can get this organised

we might not b able 2 arrange a venue that can play prince music, but we'll try, and even if we can't we'll have some cd's on standby just in case, but we'll have a good laugh anyways, there's plenty of good bars and places in edinburgh, and on a saturday u can't go wrong

do u wanna stick this meetup on the front page ian?

From Inverschnecky 157 miles, in my campervan it takes 3.5 hours, my mate on his motor bike reckons he can do it in an hour and a half. I'd give a 2.5 hours in a car. Parking is a nightmare. Be good to see y'all.

my plan is 2 find a venue thats easy 4 folks from out of town 2 find with little hassle. leith is in the centre of town, u can walk right down 2 the bottom of leith from waverley train station or st andrews square bus station in about 20/30 mins easy. u may wanna just take the train or bus as its easy. there r plenty buses from all over town that will take u in2 leith if u cant b bothered walking.

i was thinking we may find it easier 2 get a venue 4 ourselves down leith, but if we cant get that then we can meet in a bar either in leith or perhaps just around prince's street, slap bang in the city centre.

i found out that hib's r playing football on that day, so easter road will b busy, but they r playing kilmarnock or some1 equally crap so it's not a big match and should'nt b any bother

at least we can all plan on the day, we got plenty time 2 confirm a venue, if more ppl confirm they r going by posting here and keeping the thread busy, i will b able 2 judge what 2 do about a venue better. if we can guarrantee say 20 ppl or more then we could book a venue as a function perhaps as they will b glad of our custom

c u all there

I'll put an appearance in at an Edinburgh venue on any date. The date will determine how long I can attend. But I'll be there! I'll leave my tuppence out of it. Enough cooks for now. smile

I'll keep my eye on this thread.

cheers.

ok we seem 2 b getting a few names down, the date confirmed as 25th october, venue tbc

the more names we get confirmed the more chance we have of being able 2 book a venue 2 ourselves and get it 4 nothing, but if we can't get our own place then we will meetup in a big bar in town thats easy 2 get 2 and find that will b nice enuff 4 every1 (think of how we arranged the weatherspoons meetup in london or edwards bar in manchester, those worked xtremely well)

i noticed in town 2day there were posters 4 a club nite called ginuwine thats a monthly rnb/hip hop club in edinburgh, and its on on saturday 25th october, i didnt c what venue its on, but most clubs r in the centre of town and easy 2 get 2, so if every1 is up 4 that we could go there at nite after we have a few drinks. who knows they may even play some prince music 4 us, i hear tony mosley is big in the hip hop community now. its gonna b hard 2 get a venue 4 just a few folks on a saturday nite, so we either hangout in a bar or we go 2 a club, but we can make up our minds what we want 2 do on the nite, but that sounds like a good option. meetup and hangout in the afternoon, have a few drinks in the evening and then go 2 a hip hop club and get jiggy wit it as wilf smith would say (he don't cuzz on his crap 2 sell records)

how does that proposal sound 2 every1? i doubt the club will b xpensive, prolly £8 at most. thats 2 shandy's in a posh club or a hand shandy doon leith

if u think about it, as long as we have a place confirmed a day or 2 b4 the date it will all b fine, so there is no need 2 worry. remember the 1st london prince aftershow venue was arranged on the nite itself after the gig

im meetin with infiniti saturday afternoon 2 plan things, so don't worry

ok,so we got a date, the 25th october, and now we have a venue, the bar peavo, which is off leith street, which is across from the st james centre, which is next 2 the st andrews square bus station, and a stones throw from the waverley train station, its as central as u can get, its a smallish bar, used 2 b the st james oyster bar, its all done up and very nice with leather couches, plasma screens, decks and nice beer inc hoegaarden

now so far its just a meetup place, but i met with infiniti 2day and he knows the owner so we r gonna try and arrange 2 have the music and video 2 ourselves 4 the afternoon, shouldnt b a problem on a quiet saturday afternoon. so if were lucky we got prince music, if not at least we got a nice place 2 meet, they normally play funky blaxplotation mellow stuff in the afternoon and cool house in the evening as its a gr8 pre club bar

we r planning on arranging a late nite place 2 chill out and watch dvd's and stuff, its all being worked on, but its gonna b good stuff. as i said b4 there is a hip hop / rnb club that nite so if any1 is up 4 a boogie, then that sounds like a good place. also, infiniti is playing in the shore bar that nite, so thats another option

the plan is 2 have this meetup, and when we meetup we plan 2 hold a bigger full on prince party club nite, but we need ure support 2 come along 2 this so we can arrange something else

if we have any problems or changes 2 the peavo bar we will post here, we will c if we can get another place 2 ourselves in the event we cant get peavo 2 ourselves, if we cant get a place 2 ourselves, then it will remain at the peavo cuz its a nice place with good music, and its easy 2 get 2. the male members of the group may also appreciate the rather nice ladies who frequent the joint

Pivo (that's Czech for beer) Bar is located at 2 Carlton Road, underneath the Black Bull pub on Leith Street. Click here to see location map. Good to meet up with unique. Reckon it's going to be a great meet up altogether.
So watch this space, put the date in your diary, tell your friends and watch this space for updates.

i meant 2 mention a time, i was thinking about 2pm tbc, is that 2 early?

i was thinking that time cuz i noticed in previous meetup attempts in various places around the world that some folks travel a fair distance and some need 2 leave about 6pm/7pm/9pm etc 2 get back home 2 make the tea / feed the katt etc, so if we meet at 2pm, folks who need 2 get back 2 glasgow and leave about 6pm can have a good 4 hours and get home so its worthwile coming, if ure coming from dundee and it takes 2 hours in the train and u aint staying in edinburgh, then u can leave at midday, get there 2pm and leave at 9pm and get home about 11pm

how does that time suit folks? of course the plan is that we get the venue 2 ourselves from say 2pm 2 6pm playing our own music, then from 6pm the regular punters will want 2 listen 2 something other than prince, so from then we either stick around or move on 2 say some place we can eat, and then get on 2 another pub 4 drinking, and then maybe move 2 that hip hop club, and then we can c if we can get an after hours place, so say if u cant meetup at 2pm, u can meetup at pivo at 6pm and catch us b4 we move on

if u cant meetup at 6pm and wanna meetup l8r, im sure we can make arrangements 2 txt or phone or whatever, that kinda thing can b arranged by private orgnote

how does this sound 2 every? a date, time, place, venue

2pm, october 25th, edinburgh, meetup in bar pivo, 2 carlton road, off leith street (the street running off prince's street, that takes u from the bridges down 2 leith walk or round 2 london road/meadowbank), its just underneath the black bull, it used 2 b the leith oyster bar, its near the back entrance 2 waverley station, and across the road a bit from "the venue" nightclub, its so close its not worth getting a taxi from the train or bus station

Yea 2pm would suit me well... for people travelling it makes sense to meet early and make the most of the trip.
And if anyone fancies stepping out for some food at some point I'd be up for that smile

Oh, can anyone recommend hotels or B&Bs in the area, for people who are travelling?

I know there's an Ibis hotel quite centrally located that is quite affordable.
