But, how will it feel to someone like you who has been to Paisley Park many times for events while Prince was there? Will you be okay returning...
honestly i'd be only happy to return. i'd want to re-visit my old favorite dance spots, remember how cool things were and say goodbye one last time. it would be a kind of closure for me, personally. to say goodbye and know that it is goodbye.....
Paisley Park is an old, old friend. me love Paisley Park. obviously, it can never be the same without Prince but it will always be magic.
so as long as things go smoothly and there are no more glitches i think folks will be glad to visit Paisley Park.
folks might shed tears, but imo it will be in a good way, being there with Prince's spirit.

I hope things do work out with PP and that you get to go again. If it will be a postive experience for you, then do it by all means. My only real beef is the display of Prince's ashes in the way described but it's not my call and out of my hands. Despite that, I hope that people going can get a cathartic experience by attending. From everything I'm seeing and hearing on TV, it looks amazing. And they have worked very hard on it!
But then you have Dr. Funk and others all up in arms claiming Bremer and Graceland are messing with PP and not telling the truth. Um, Prince had over 6,000 articles of clothing, 1,000 shoes, 150 guitars, drum sets, pianos, keyboards, awards, cars, motorcycles and lots of other memorabilia. This stuff has to be displayed some how. No there might not have been a "Purple Rain room" but how else are they supposed to display this stuff? And from what I can tell from the video footage they didn't paint over anything, they're using special lighting to make the room purple. Dr. Funk says he's just looking out for the fans. Well then I think he also has a responsibility to not stir up shit that's only going to get fans all worked up.
I saw many reports on the other thread about how well things went today. Must be eating dingleberry up.

The negative vote by the council is very worrisome to me. Watching the opening yesterday it seems that the tours will enable Paisley Park to maintain. It would be devastating if it isn't allowed to function as Prince planned and worked so hard to get it set up. I can see everything he wanted falling apart, maybe literally. Nothing compares 2 U |

I think the city council was very smart to table it for awhile to get the time to really review the plans. What people are forgeting is that while our focus is Prince and PP, the people who live there must be considered first. They are taxpayers and have every right to expect that the city council (and the mayor) would put their interests first and do the best thing for the community before giving the final okay. It's exactly what I would expect if this were happening in my own community. Tickets should never have been sold to anyone until the city had a chance to thoroughly review the plans to ensure the community is able to accommodate this. The approvals/permits should have been in hand before the opening was announced and tickets sold. This mess is on the corporation and others who were handling the opening of PP, not Chanhassen.

This is where I partially disagree. Note too that the mayor didn't agree with the city council vote and was at the grand opening meeting guests. I have a real hard time believing Graceland and Bremer would have moved forward with ticket sales and hiring staff without believing this would be approved. When this was first announced in August the mayor sent out a press release in support. Somebody with the city approved the timeline of a city council meeting on Oct 3 and grand opening on October 6. There is no way you could get everything necessary in place in less than 3 days. As an outsider looking in the city council meeting always seemed to me like a formality, not the first time the council members would be asking hard questions. Anyway it probably is a good thing that they've slowed it all down. It will give Graceland time to make the experience better and properly train staff and these limited tours will give the city a better sense of what traffic will be like and what the flow of pedestrians will be. Allow limited tours over the winter and then open on a regular basis in the spring. In fact if it's financial feasible perhaps they should think about not even having tours in the winter months. I'm sure ticket sales will be down in those months anyway. Paisley Park is in your heart

I just fell they could of given a permit for more than 3 days. They could of done Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun this weekend and Fri, Sat, Sun next weekend. Would of given some more of a chance to get in that already had tickets and for those like myself to get tickets. Over the weekend would of been fine. |

First of all, to you. I'm going to be optimistic and say I have no doubt it will work out...but it's always best to take time to look everything over twice and then maybe again to be sure it works for the taxpayers/residents/community. Things would get really upsetting if they said yes, found that there were problems or obstacles they hadn't thought of initially that were not negotiable and put a stop to it all later on. I do believe these people loved Prince and want to do what works out well for everyone. And yeah....no receipts in hand means no, do not pass go. They shouldn't have gone ahead without the okay first and should refund money if need be. As it is, I think the city council was absolutely thinking about the fans dilemma when they allowed for temp permits...that was really generous of them to do in recognition of fan expenses. I've been seeing some really nasty and awful things being said on social media about the Chan residents and the city council. That's not the right way to go about this at all. I don't like what it says about Prince fans as a whole, it colors us in a bad way. We can't let our grief and/or anger over our loss make the purple army seen as nothing more than an angry mob. That's not who we are.

that's a good idea. something more workable - like tours three days a week, that would also allow for Paisley Park to keep functioning as a recording studio and movie production house.
if handled correctly, the production side of the Park could earn just as much money as constant tours. to me, it seems a shame to let a state of the art recording facility just stand idle, as exhibits in a museum

I have tickets for a later date and don't yet know the status so I'm right there with you with the frustration. But saying the town is "selfish" is a bit much. People do live in this community and they have a right to feel comfortable that everything's in place to make sure their neighborhood isn't overly disrupted. The vote was only to delay the opening not deny it. That's understandable to me. The problem is primarily that pp management should have been more diligent about making sure everything was a go prior to selling tickets. - From everything I've read, Prince worked hard to be a good and respectful Chanhassen neighbor and resident and if we're interested in following his lead we should maintain the same respectful attitude toward the community. oliviacamron said: rogifan said: Um.... I agree - I don't want to know where I'm at cost wise But non of it is refundable I mean, I'm trying to stay positive. I can't afford to go all the time - as I sure most of us can't so for them to 'push it back' and possibly offer 'rainchecks' - that just won't do.
I hear ya. I Have alot of $$$ into it But I will be there from Oct 11-16 So ya'll wanna hang out?
Absolutely! I'm there from 12-16 Definitely going to the Fams Meet&Greet at Eagle Street Grille at 4:30 (the street party at Xcel is at 4pm so going to check that out for the first half hour then head to the restaurant). Looking forward to meeting fams then and also at the two movie events AND the Muse dance party on Friday AND Bunkers - Whew! Going to be a blast Dance where y'are, just groove y'all.

First of all, chastising people who bought tickets in good faith is uncalled for and not funny. I hope for their sakes this dilemma is resolved.
I do not believe for one minute that Bremer and Graceland were not assured that all was in order. This sounds like some small town, bumfuck backwater tactic at the eleventh hour simply because they have the leverage to do so in order to extract some further concessions from Paisley Park. If anything, the Estate and Graceland failed to grease the right palms in order to ensure that business could proceed as planned.
Out of the blue the three stooges on the council all of a sudden, suddenly wait until last possible second to voice concerns over traffic and safety issues when they have known about these plans at least since August? Smells fishy to me.
Bremer and Graceland may have a cause of action against the city depending on what they were told and by whom. Perhaps that is why they are trying to negotiate.
Mind you, these are just some thoughts/speculations.
Do they really want this many disgruntled visitors in Chanhassen? Because that is who will be blamed, rightly or wrongly.
Yep. That. Exactly
I agree wholeheartedly! Dance where y'are, just groove y'all.

I really feel you you. I've been on the wrong end of poor PRN Productions too many times.
But you know its a great city, you've still got the memorial and dance parties, a visit outside of the park, lake Minnatonka, First Ave, Calhoun Sq, Electric Featus and of course the great cinema showings of the films. Soak it up... and steal the door knob. Its yours.
Thank you for including the movie events in your summary of things to do while in Mpls You are coming to MPLS still right? I wanna hear those Prince stories in person dammit Dance where y'are, just groove y'all.

Excuse me, but isn't this a 'Prince Fan Community Site' ??? Why is this not on the front page & a sticky in PM&M?
I would like to know the same thing. It's not like I posted it here. It sure AF was posted in the PM&M for a decent while. This isn't a 'fan gathering post' so no idea how we landed over here. Dance where y'are, just groove y'all.
