Peach and Black..is dead?!

.

“All good things they say, never last..."

.
Oh wow. Peach and Black Podcast...Dead? Is this true?! It seems that way. I got this reply after trying to contact their website…

.

”Peach and Black podcast episodes will no longer be available through any streaming or podcast apps. We will be slowly archiving the classic episodes to YouTube.”

.

I've only just come across this news, obviously late. I've put this post (and hope the moderators will let it stay) in the main forum as it gets the most footfall, unlike the "Art, Podcasts & Fan Content" forum, where Peach and Black (as well as others) have been ousted to which is akin to, let’s face it, a bit of a graveyard. Case in point, only a handful of people have discussed this on a short thread in the "Art, Podcasts & Fan Content” forum. Now I’m sure that many more people than the handful on that thread are properly gutted and if they knew would show their respect that we're losing a very important part of the Prince Community. So, I hope the moderators keep it here because the "Peach and Black Podcast" certainly deserves a place on this website where most people come through. It's also for new/newish fans, so they are aware of "Peach and Black". Why? Well, I've been a massive Prince fan since 1984 and like most people on this forum I expect, I don't have friends with whom I can discuss Prince's music with the level of detail, knowledge and passion that I possess. From time to time I used to get this on Prince.org, but unfortunately a lot of the attitude has turned me slowly away. However, with the "Peach and Black Podcast" I finally found that 'gaggle' of virtual friends who discuss Prince's work with the level of detail and humour I crave and am grateful for. They've done countless shows over 12 years and what must be hundreds of hours of podcasts, which obviously requires an awful lot of work. And through listening to them and their knowledge of music (I think all or most of them have been involved in bands/creating music) and although I think I know all of Prince's songs to death, they find something buried away on in the mix, or a bass lick I ignored etc. etc. and BAM, I'm listening to Prince's work with new ears and hearing it in a different way - giving a welcome new lease of life. That's why I hope that the moderators keep this post so that new users of the Org will find their way to Peach and Black – their deep analysis coupled with Toejam’s musical theory behind the songs are enlightening and adds shine to purple music you never gravitated to or see overheard songs from a new perspective.
.

They'll be going soon, so get the podcasts when you can – there are well over 100 to listen to for free. I for one am subscribing to their "Peach and Black Podcast Plus Patron" page as a thank you – an annual charge of $69.99 - which gives you access to new 26 episodes, each reviewing a live gig that most hardcore fans have seen or have access to. For all the work they've done for our enjoyment, this 'tip’ is small beer (and also to download their 'Live performance' reviews, ahem).

.

I'm sure that there are people who disagree with my respect for the Peach and Black crew and are indifferent about their passing, but I for one am hoping that they'll return as The Podcast Formerly Known As Peach And Black. I mean - what other podcast was known to be respected by Prince himself, let alone play their reviews to his band AND actually summoned to New York to meet up with the man?!

.
Obviously, they’ve not said anything official yet and I hope they will do at some stage, but until then, I felt compelled to write this as a thank you, a show of respect and a vain hope that they don’t totally close down and might do the odd one in the future. You’ll be sorely missed chaps.

.
Respect due guys - please, don't be strangers.

Sadly their greed over the Premium thing killed off their following.

.

Back in 2011 and 2012, they were all I listened to, but as the Youtube Princefans and Prince groups on facebook increased I varied my listening and it seems they are no longer relevant now. They squandered their last chance by not reviewing SOTT Supa Deluxe.

.

Why worry about paying $70 a year to hear one set of opinions when you can hear and watch great Youtube channels like Prince's friend, Adorecream76, Nightchild Ethereal and Mr Ants World of Prince for absoutely nothing?

I got plenty good loving for ya baby

i don't think so

after they started the Peach and Black Plus, they continued making their usual episodes

people who didn't pay for a Plus subscription were still able to listen freely to the free episodes

yep, even if you gave peach and black 50 cents for every episode they'd ever put out, you'd still be paying more than this, but apparently 12 years of great shows is totally worthless to this tightwad

Exactly, the podcasts were always free, they only recently created the Patreon page for extra podcasts - reviews of filmed live performances.

There was a thread about this at the time. See here:

You will see that the Captain (aka Funky Strange) took the time to reply in the thread.

The one fact i know about 'RUTJF' is that there is no face-melting guitar solo in the title song.

i waited for it, but it never happened.

i still mourn.

Prince's Friend has very surface knowledge of Prince and his catalogue.

Well maybe all you haters can get on YT and start your own Prince channel, not surprising he never mentions the org. In fact none of these guys do, and Adorecream is the most vocal whinging about how he got booted out. I think Prince's friend and Adorecream are great channels.

.

Adorecream is this weird Kiwi guy with a Sheldon Cooper like memory and he does go deep into Prince's music and albums, with a passion I have seen in few people. Yet his videos only get like 30 or 40 views. It is a scandal.

.

Same with Nightchild and Mr Ants, two British superfans who have a very deep and comprehensive knowledge of Prince, they are really nice guys too - Nightchild has a sincerity and warmth that few other people can match and he is mega dedicated to Prince and his memory. Mr Ants is zany fun and warm.

.

PS: I am not a tightwad, I give to charities yet I have little for myself - I just don't think paying $100 to hear some guys talk about Prince is worth it, I feel one should share the knowledge for free. Its enough the estate releases one overpriced box set after another, we don't need exclusive podcasts doing the same.

.

How do we attract new fans to Prince, if all people want is money, money and more money all the damn time.

Thanks for that - I haven't been on the Org for a bit, but that's no excuse. Nice to see some respect there.

.

I've only watched a few of the Prince related YouTube channels and I don't have a problem with any of them, some are better than others IMO - they're giving up their free time to pursue a passion but which they obviously enjoy doing - I certainly like "Nightchild" & "Mr Ants World of Prince".

.

In regard to the poster saying I should watch "Nightchild" - they should watch this...

You know I gave that podcast a review previously that I wouldn't call negative, just told my impression that I thought it was lame and I explained the reason for my impression and I have to say now I think they should keep doing it. Why did they stop again? I really want to know. What does it take to do it again?

Just for the record, i never bashed Casey or Prince’s Friend. I don’t watch their videos too often but I’m happy to fans trying to keep his legacy alive in the public eye.

I just thought the jokes were funny

Who knows. Probably a combination of it being time-consuming and they all probably have stuff taking off in their individual lives...

But why not just do a break and come back? That’s what i think they doing. They’re just being melodramatic (or the opposite ig.. dramatic in terms of the internet where they just go off and don’t give a reason why... not dramatic because they didn’t make a lot of noise... but still the way it’s done is to give the impression that they’re done for good; in which won’t be the case because they’re coming back...)for the laughs later

Well that's as good of a reason as any.

I thought there were laughs sooner I just hadn't paid enough attention when I needed them.

When we need the laughs they don't always come.

UGH freaking melodrama

The only drama/melodrama is the one you're creating

The shows over. They never ruled out a one off show in the future, but you've already managed to put a negative spin on that possibility by implying they're just drama queens for ending the show if they did ever want to come back at some point in the future, no wonder they're done with this toxicity
