My understanding is that the podcast is ending, and that they are not going to review SOTT deluxe.

MUCH appreciate their great contribution and hard work over the years. Will miss them a LOT!

I have enjoyed there podcasts down the years.

I do feel they were becoming more critical, which is fine. Especially the one going by the name of Captain. He also would often comment on how he hardly listens to Prince much now. So no surprise they have given up.

I do quite enjoy the Mountains and The Sea podcast if you're looking for an alternative.

Thank you so much for this!

I did not hear of it until now.

Listening right now and they are really good.

-

The podcast on the Edits and B-sides of SOTT SDE is really good.

Very interesting.

I'm sure they have a good reason(s) for ending the show and I respect their decision, but I wish they would have done one final show to go out in style. SOTT SDE would have been the perfect content to end on. Plus, it would have given them a chance to speak directly to their fans and thank them for the support.

Bit of a missed opportunity to go out without reviewing the huge release upon which you based the name of your podcast that just came out.

it's funny that all they ever seemed to get was criticism, or just plain ignored by most, when they were around, now they're gone everyone loves them, funny how that works

.

it's almost like people have finally realised what they had and now it's too late

.

I was talking to one of them just recently and seems there was a lot of stuff going on the last few years which in the end just made it not worth to continue

.

I've read that there was this effect with the loss of Prince and SOME of the population of his home state.

I personally do too much speaking up when hoping for a problem to be resolved, and not enough sending praise, support and appreciation for the amazing things I'm lucky to enjoy. IMO, expressing appreciation and praise is one of the most important parts of the work of life, and I'm way too much of a slacker.

Any lessons you'd suggest the fan community take from this? Are there particular ways we were especially un-praising and unwelcoming, or was it mostly slacker stuff of not supporting and speaking up with appreciation?

What the hell???? Why are they ending the podcast????? All these years, probably the biggest posthumous Prince release ever, and they’re done?? I need to know what happened, man. Great show. Needs to continue!! This is outrageous!! All 4 are great people.

I'm sure I read on Twitter months before SOTT was released one of them said they wouldn't be reviewing it. Shame as it was my favourite Prince podcast.

I personally don't remember much critism of the host of Peach and Black. But If they remember it I guess that's what matters. I'm not a bandwagoner. I definitely enjoyed the show. The reason I queried about them in the original post is because I thought 4 sure that this was the time 2 be hearing from them. They were dead on and honest alot of times. If my opinion differed from theirs it was cool with me. Often when my opinions differed I would just laugh and carry on. Definitely sucks 2 see them go.

Bruh.
Well they probably don’t have the time at the moment.
But they could just wait a while and take their time doing it. We’re patient. Or I’ll act patiently for them.
I somehow don’t believe this is the end. I have a feeling we’ll hear all 4 of them talking about In a Large Room some day in the not-so-distant future...

I will say that, no other podcast review Prince's music as critically and with such fantastic observations. These guys have consistenty had me going back to relisten. When they made that connection between Rearrange and Dance 4 Me, I was really blown away. When they described how much interesting stuff was happening in Purple Music, I'd revisted a track I'd never been keen on. I was totally sold on it after their description. These guys were superb. Captin, well, I never agreed with his observations (typically) but I respected that he was not drinking the purple Kool Aid. Like the others, I think he wanted to ensure it was the music that attracted him to Prince - nothing more, nothing less.

It is a total shame they wrapped up. It felt sudden, but the timing was terrible. To end their show just as the greatest set in Prince's career had just been released.

wow.

I wonder what could me it "impossible"? After all, putting together a show simply requires these four guys have a confernece call and record their conversation. What could prevent that from happening? I realize they are all likely very busy, but surely they could find one evening in the next couple months when they're all available for a call. (I do realize there is some prep work involved -- including listening to all of the CDs, which takes a tremendous amount of time -- but that's something each of them could do independently at their own leisure.)

Above in this thread someone worried they were being threatened with legal action by the Estate, but I don't believe that's realisitc. Anybody is allowed to review any album, book, movie, TV show, restaurant, gas station, app, or anything they want. You don't need permission from or pay royalties to the subject when you're expressing your personal opinion about it. (In extreme cases if your review contains intentional, malicious falsehood you might be sued for libal/slander, but even then you're probably safe is the person you were critiquing is a public figure.)

The P&B Podcast does include snippets of the songs. I *think* that's okay (covered under fair use so long as it's a short excerpt). But even if that is creating a legal problem they could simply stop including those snippets. After all, when the podcast first started it didn't use them.

I don't know anything about the business end of podcasts? Do they have to pay to keep their content on the various platforms? If so, maybe it's finances making it impossible.

I'm inclinded to believe that one of them must have a personal issue that's preventing them from continuing. It could be one of those situaitons where the other three contemplating continuing the show, but ultimately felt it would be right to go on without the full group.

whatever happened, i think the best course of action is rampantly speculating about it and assuming the worst about everything and everyone involved

nah. i'm thinking it was more they just didn't enjoy it anymore and the prince scene is getting flooded with the casey's and princesfriends. people don't want deep dives and discussion anymore they want to be spoonfed via 10 minute videos on youtube with flashy thumbnails

I honestly don't think they owe any of us anything, some of the people here almost demanding an explanation, why? What did you ever give to them? Why do they owe you anything?

Haven't they given you enough?
