NPGMC censorship (example)

No insults, no four-letter words, just people expressing their opinions. Yet this thread is gone sad sad sad sad

poompoom

what is your opinion on the deletion of threads/posts? are you in support of this practice or in support of the ceasing of this practice. are there instances where you feel it is necessary or acceptable? i'm curious to know if we can all come to a unified stance on this or if there will always be a differing of opinion on the matter. please give reasons andd examples with your answers, if they can be applied. thanks!

maybe it has, maybe it hasn't. one thing is sure and that is that i have never discussed it with you. please don't jump to conclusions about this particular thread. i am truly interested in what others here think. if people are too nervous or scared to post it on the thread, then please pm me with your opinion. i just want to know what my "roommates" think about our new "home".

by the way, BlueAura, if i was praising the new dvd on a new thread would you have given the same kind of response?

If the content of the post is too insulting (like there is sometimes on some other sites) then I cna't see why it can remain here since it doesn't shed any new light on anything but rather spoil the mood!!!

So, chose your words...

IMO deletion of posts/threads is a practice that is neither useful nor necessary nor acceptible as long as not totally "immoral" or "unacceptable" views are stated that are really dangerous to society (e.g. pro murder, sexual or other abuse of people, racism or things of that kind). Other than that it's just censorhip IMHO. I think freedom of speech is a thing worth fighting for and so much more important than many of us are aware of.

Deletion of threads and posts is a fact of life on this site. Sometimes it appears heavy-handed or arbitrary, but it's been made clear to us that it's not our call to make, so don't invest too much in what you write over here and maybe you can still have a little fun.

I must say - I am amazed at how arrogant and self-possessed Prince 'fans' can be. I won't mention the Prince.org. Or any attitude problems.

Whatever Prince does or releases, virtually everytime I feel blasted away by an enormous wave of negativity from quite a large group of people --- saying what's wrong with the product, what Prince SHOULD have done, why they're not getting enough, what's wrong with the service, etc.
They *demand* *everything* *now*, and pull other people along in their stream of dissatisfaction.

True, some criticism has to be possible, and true again, service has been at times lacking. But what's wrong with a little politeness. And respect.
Mmm, but I realise that's not how our modern society functions.

Oops, I better shut up.

It's not about negativity or positivity or whether you like a CD or a DVD or not. It's about a much more important thing, whether it is aloud to speak your mind or not. Sure sometimes criticism can hurt people's feelings and it should be done in a respectful way, but even if that's not always the case I am still happy to live in a society where people can express their attitudes even if they are contrary to mine.

i would... both topics have been covered to death... there is no need to start any more new DVD threads... there a ton of them... find one and post on it...

and there is no need to start up threads like this one, knowing that they will end up deleted or locked...

people need to stop spanking dead monkeys, and just get on...

Pearl, here's a challenge for you:

Respond to this thread in a way that a) expresses your opinions, and b) does so in a way that expresses love, respect and understanding for those with whom you disagree.

Other than the music, isn't that the mission of this club?

That's one thing that really gripes me about some of the so-called "positive" people on here - they claim to represent the higher ground, but they continue to condescend, insult and browbeat those whose opinions differ from their own. Why is that?

If someone posts a comment that is critical of Prince or NPG, for Heaven's sake, DON'T call them a "whiner" or a "complainer". How is that respectful? Is respect only necessary if you're respecting Prince? Is that how you define "Love4OneAnother"? I don't think so!

Whether or not I agree with the way this club is moderated, I WILL say that it's given me an opportunity to step back and look at the way I interact with others online. I might always be a bit of a smart aleck, and I may always have an irreverent sense of humor, but I think there's always room to improve and refine the way I play with others.

I hope others are able to take a step back and look in the mirror as well.

very sad...the forums started out pretty open to conversation, now they're becoming a neurotic mess of heavy handed moderation and delusional fams who think that nonstop plastic praise will win them into the kingdom of princedom...

Sorry, I just realized I used 'erudite' in the wrong context. It is not 'bookish' learning, but rather non-bookish. So I guess i'll substitute the word "observant, intelligent" you get the drift. wink

Well this thing has been dascussed many many times on NPGMC... I just noticed on the org that one of my post has been deleted too... A post frommy fiancé suffered here from the same fate and they were far from being insulting...

I personally never read the clubs forums So I don't know much about this subject.

However I have read many cut and pastes items here that were removed from the club's forums and didn't understand why.

Question:
I read where they said this subject has been discussed at the club, but how would you know if they keep removing it?

Unless you spend all your time there 24-7 you wouldn't get a chance to read it and express your opinions before it's removed.

Just a thought.

I understand that the club can delete whatever they wish and some of them they should, but don't understand why they delete forums that express their members views when they aren't along the lines of I love Prince and I love everything he does.

I work for Hotels in Mexico and on our site we have forums that express both sides. Even though we have some ppl that hated the hotel we still leave their experience there as long as it's expressed in a mature manner. If we didn't then it wouldn't be the whole truth.

And something I'm finding quite interesting is that they're asking for comments on Micheal Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" movie.

They obviously don't know much about the guy, because one thing he always says in his books and live performances is that it's important to express your thoughts and never let anyone censor you or your opinions. He also encourages people to always ask the questions that the recipient of the question may not be comfortable with answering.

I think he'd have some things to say about how the NPGMC forums were "moderated".

I started a thread called 'Censosrhip does not unite, censorship divides' and simply wrote 'Discuss' in the text. Sadly it seems they missed the irony of the post and withdrew it in 15 minutes! That is extreme paranoia, whether you think the club is great or not.

Aw thanks, lurve...NYC was a hoot and a holler, and it left me without a dollar.

I just now came across this thread, and am disappointed to see yet another example of the good ol' NPGMC Selective Positivity Syndrome at work, once again.

Boring!
