We're U at the Tavis Smiley benefit unveiling of the Lotuflow3r site? was there & remember the site being different there also...
Yeah that was the gig. At the Conga Room. Great show. I remember him opening with Dreamer before anyone had ever heard of it. Seeing Kornell West on stage dancing with Jesse Jackson was off the chain. I remember one of the features of the site was you could point to different rooms & Prince would walk into each one of them & different videos were played depending on which room you were in. It looked really slick.
It was Cornell West, Tavis, and Michael Eric Dyson..lawd I hope that was filmed "Climb in my fur." |

What am I looking at? I can't really see anything - do I need to friend you? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

Looking good. Looking good.
But he needs to be VERY careful not to use the last of, for many of us, what remains of our goodwill.
I will NOT be joining a club. I would rather STEAL a copy of the Daily Fail than give them my hard-earned. If it's ANY sort of streaming BS I'm out.
Sorry to sound negative, I am very optimistic of what seems an interesting reinvention of style. Hopefully minus exessive Larry Graham and telling us how best to bother God.
But we live in a sort of musical utopia now, as I see it, that ironically he helped pave the way for and yet wants no part of. He needs to get OVER the non-existent format war that is in his head, and just get ON with delivering music the way most of us now choose to experience it. That is digitally via the internet.
Woah there! Before you go flaming me with the old "vinyl sounds better" and "I want a physical copy" arguments. Just think.
Apple (other digital content sources are available) are committed to improving the quality of there downloads in future. This is to be embraced. I really, really wish he was there with them, getting involved in the dialogue about how best to proceed because he more than anyone should be.
And THEN...we can get over ridiculous arguments of "format". Physical is dead people, really. Get over it. The future IS digital. Fact. And if you close your eyes and ears to the REALITY of this future then you will get left behind. And we don't want that. We want the funkiest right there, front and centre. Leading the charge instead of resisting it.
Remember it's about the MUSIC. And it is AMAZING that an artist (THE Artist?) can record, produce and distribute a song (or any content for that matter) direct to his (or her) fans almost INSTANTLY, and get paid for it. What a world.
Yes sound quality needs improving. Yes I want a "booklet" with lyrics and pictures I can enjoy in conjunction with the listening experience. Yes the price has to be right and the artist proceeds need to be fair. So get involved and get negotiating and make your demands loud and clear and get the fans onboard so we can shout with you to the corporation(s) that we demand better, faster, more.
Sorry to hijack the discussion, just don't want to have to dust off my gramophone to get involved.
Great track P, keep it coming.
I bet you if he printed a limited edition CD of 25,000 copies of a new CD and had a site where you could buy a digital copy for $15 or a physical copy of $30, the physical copies would sell out.... AND go up in value on the secondary market. Wow. You totally made my point for me. Thanks, but I suspect that wasn't your intention. Yeah, the limited editions would sell out. So everyone else would buy bootlegs or download rips that he would make ZERO money from. OR, play the game, release on a recognised iMusic forum for a fair price and we can all pay and play. Seriously, "Limited Editions". What the F*ck? This isn't the cash-grabbing 90s. We all know "Limited Editions" are only ever "Limited" to the quantity the supplier thinks they can shift. Thus any fence-sitters invest early rather than risk missing out. In your model, if they're "Limiting" the supply to 25,000 copies they probably estimated a user base of 23,500, burning the excess for the secondary market and dumb-ass speculators. A MUCH better model is that which Apple sporadically employs. Encouraging early adoption by providing bonus tracks for pre-order customers that are then delisted when the album is eventually released. Imagine a single with an exclusive B-side that you only get if you buy the single BEFORE it's released. I'd be in early doors EVERY time. So would we all. |

Yea! Who knew Cornell West could get down like that? He was tearing that dance floor up. It was hilarious watching Tavis & Jesse dance to. They we're partying up. Yea! we witnessed the first debut of the "Dreamer".It was a special night 4 a good benefit.
don't understand why they changed the site. was amazed playing with it. That whole "LotusFlow3r" xperience it had 2 b something going on behind the scenes that pissed Prince off. He just abandoned it. Anywho just like U said I don't have any complaints. It entitled me to witness Prince's 3 shows in one night extravaganza & a Tonight Show appearance...
But that is the past(which Prince doesn't live in). This is about
'20pr1nc3.com'
Did you go to all 3 shows that night? I did but had to rely on a miracle to get into The Conga Room. I keep hoping a video of that one surfaces, you listening P?
Only the first and the last one. Couldn't get the "Conga Room" ones [Edited 1/24/13 8:13am] will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. |

I'm reserving judgement for now, but this is kind of underwhelming.
I certainly hope it's not exclusively a video site. I would love to download the new song, but I have no desire to watch a streaming video of the lyrics over and over again.
A "launch" (though I don't know if there was any official lauch--how did anyone even hear about this?) might have been better served to have a little more inventory. You would not open a store with one item, would you?
But again, I will wait and see. So far I have paid nothing and received nothing. |

I didn't make the point that "Physical is dead". In fact, I made the point that some of us would rather pay double for physical than to pay for digital. A digital album is worth a couple bucks, tops. Physical copies are worth whatever the market will bear. For me, that'd be about $30 bucks max.

I would like a physical CD and I would be willing to pay $16.00 tops for a single album and $30.00 for a double--of Prince only. Downloads--I would pay a lot less for. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

That's what I'm thinking...although Wendy and Lisa are irreplaceable IMO. Love Hannah's personality and Donna definitely seems to have Wendy's attitude and look but Hannah's definitely the star of this group. |
