New topic PrintableMars23 said: I think the larger issue is that we being familiar with Prince and the way he does business KNEW this was coming. We've been sitting and waiting for it for months, all the while warning people that it would happen.
If we knew it and posted about it on here. Prince and his team knew it too. They just chose to do nothing about it until all hell broke loose. Prince, seriously, call me. We can work out a deal and you could have an online presence that WORKS. You could work with people that understand you and your fans would have a satisfying experience. THINK about it. The MAIN issue is that Prince does NOT communicate. A simple email, last week or so, - explaining in a few sentences that there would be a year 2 - but that reworking the website would take a month or so - that you would be charged if you chose for auto-renew - that you could renew manually after x/y - a hint about what would be offered could have stirred stuff the right way. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

So they told everyone they would be auto-charged each year and now they are denying they had any role in it? Yep. I posted the passage from the terms and conditions in one of the other threads. It stated right on the site that auto renewal would occur. 1.4 - LOTUSFLOW3ER.COM MEMBERSHIPS Lotusflow3r memberships are valid for one calendar year from date of purchase, and are non-refundable. Prince, sorry but your lotusflow3r.com venture was a total fiasco and cost you some diehards that were willing to dole out thousands of dollars on flights, tickets, hotels, records, and websites just to experience your music. Congratulations on disrespecting your fans.
BTW, I got charged for y2 on lf.com even though I sent a please-no e-mail at support@lotusflow3r.com. Kind regards, Prince Rogers Nelson. [Edited 3/26/10 1:09am] We Can Funk

Prince real mad. very funny Genesia. Not. Thing is everybody blames Prince cuz they don't know whose working for him or whose on the other end of the computer. too many times there are folks that send email or open websites or accounts on websites under Prince's name - responding to emails and such and forget to put their own initials after signing Prince's name. And if they say something or are rude, they're not doing it on their name. They're doing on his name. And that's no good. So, if Prince is a bit miffed in this matter, he has a right to be. As far LotusFlow3r.com goes - I didn't sign up cuz ... frankly I just don't have the money. I've got a little one to feed, no man to help and am stuck in an area with virtually no jobs. (they say it's the worst place in the States right now, and I believe it) That's something I am giving a lot of thought too and a different subject entirely .. but the point is; I'll go for the fact that Prince did not know about the reccurring billing cycle. And the fact ...he obviously caught something and had his team issue this statement. I don't think he's trying to rip anybody off. The team states clearly they are sorry for the inconvienance and that they are refunding anyone who was incorrectly charged. So there it is. Not the first time in the history of the world that clerical personell made a mistake or an oversight. At least they signed it half way. and identified who they were i.e. Lotusflow3r development team. True too many too quick to blame P.

2nd Year LotusFlow3r membership Dear Harveya, It has come to our attention that some of our members have erroneously been charged for a second year of membership to Lotusflow3r.com. We understand that this must be very worrying, and are working right now to make sure that everyone has their money refunded as soon as possible. Sincere apologies for this inconvenience, and thank you for your support over the last year. Prince chooses who represents him. If he doesn't directly choose someone for a role in his business empire, someone he HAS chosen to represent him chooses them on behalf of Prince. If he was alert as to what his fans opinions of how a project such as lotusflower.com was panning out he should have severed all ties with people who are misrepresnting him and hired people who were more sensitive to his profile and fan base. Trouble is, Prince does not care. It is not just that he is unaware of what his fans think, he is unaware because he just does not care. He seems to have no profile awareness anymore, certainly not on the internet. [Edited 3/26/10 3:09am]

setyrmindphree said: PicassoFace said: Well, if I remember correctly, there was a clause in the fine print up on sign up about auto renewals, which means you'll automatically be charged for continued periods of service unless you notify them otherwise. That's why so many disappointed orgers were posting threads about changing their credit card info to all zeros to avoid the auto renewal charge. So, it's perfectly legal for them to charge for a second year. The fact that they're refunding those auto renewal charges is all the proof we need that there will not be a second year--teasing orb on the site or not. -- [Edited 3/25/10 19:37pm] I read the fine print, believe me, (I had npgmc "life time" membership) I know there was an automatic renewal. Why is it perfectly legal (your words) for a company to put in fine print --"email such and such to cancel your account"-- and then they don't respond and then charge your credit card for a second year for a site that doesn't exist? The point is that they did not respond to my emails to cancel the freakin account. There was at least 6 requests to cancel if not more, I lost count actually. Tell me one good reason why this was handled this way. Well, if you emailed them to cancel that's a different matter. And any good website would allow you to cancel right on the site without sending an email and wondering if it was ever received. "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

It still amazes me that some fams defend this type of management. They really are the fuel to allow Prince to keep pulling this shit. This year, for the first time ever, I sat out. Prince has simply pulled these stunts on me too many times. It was blindingly obvious from the vagueness of the invite that he was going to do it again. No commitment what so ever. Will folks finally learn? Will folk realize that the only way to make a business listen is to not give it business until it contractually solidifies its offer? I kept my $77 out of principle. And I will continue to do so. It doesn't matter what scheme he comes up with next, I will get the music by other means. He has pulled so many stunts that have cost me over the years, my conscience will be clear when I get the music how he originally invisioned it....free! I feel for those folks who got hit. But please, learn from it. When the next promise of fresh jelly or videos and concert tickets come up, remember, you can join at any time, when they actually arrive, or in most cases with P, you can get it elsewhere. Prince = Never pay up front! .

It was indirectly their fault. U2 apologized for the same kind of thing. It is prince's fault when he lends his name to something and you trust it for that reason. If it's not his fault he should still apologize & explain why it's not his fault. It's good pr at the very least. I am not hurting for 77 bucks but in this economy, I am sure some people are. For Prince to remain silent is fucked up. The above statement means NOTHING to me as I would be getting my 77 bucks back come hook or come crook. What exactly is wrong with just saying the site is over and has been for many months now? How about just telling us there was really no such thing as customer service? If this shit had happened to Prince (shitty customer service) you can best bet someone would hear about it. But we are just supposed to sit back and continue to kiss his purple ass. Fuck that. setyrmindphree said: muleFunk said: If you have ever joined any website and used your credit card they can and will charge you without notification. This is a common practice and it drives consumers crazy.
ESPN and I are battling right now after charging my card 17 times in 2 years after I canceled my subscription. The difference is that ESPN is still a functioning website. love2chargeu4nothing.com no longer works. That is called stealing my friend. Most sites that I have a subscription with actually respond to customer questions, especially months before membership is due if I want to cancel. 2ndly, I usually get an email telling me that my account is getting reading to be charged. ESPN has never sent me an e-mail telling me that they were about to charge me for Insider access. ESPN requires you to call their offices to cancel a subscription. When you call you have to leave your name and phone # and they say they will call you back and they never do. So I have called 20+ times and left messages. I was told that my subscription was canceled but I found out last month that it was charged for a yearly subscription. When I inquired about the charge they told me that they would remove the charge and refund me. This had happened to me on a site called NFLdraftblitz as well however they do notify of renewal. As of today March 26 2010 it has not happened. This is not a defense of Prince's bullshit but I am telling everyone who has paid a website to double check ALL of their accounts because this is a common practice on the internet. This is a practice that ALL sites need to stop.

I'm not of the school that Prince owes us anything. We pay him for his art and I really don't think I am entitled to anything that he creates for free.
Why do you lot always think in these extremes? It ain't about FREE, it's about COMPETENCE. It's about VALUE FOR MONEY. Oh, and you might wanna look around and realize things have changed A LOT. Well, he is an asshole. He hires numbskulls to run his online presence, and then fails to follow up.
