OK, in all seriousness and back on topic again:

Considering many people's cards are getting charged already, I would urgently advise members to contact their credit card company.

If you have been charged, explain the situation to them and kindly request them to try and get your money back. Do not just take no for an answer. There is usually something they can do. If you have not been charged, ask them to block your card for any lotusflower payments.

And, if you haven't already don't forget to cancel your membership . Save a copy of the email as proof.

Shit. The site splurged for the $150 or so to use Constant Contact. They could easily send an e-mail to members.

And, yes, they have people that are members here and could be contacting this site directly. This approach they are taking is clown shoes.

a message on the front page of the official site would probably attract
too much media attention.

thus, we get a statement on the dl, once again through a non official
channel.

i'm curious tho, wether here or on lotus, what the statement will be
and if it's simply going to be "ok, mistake, we'll give your money
back" or if it will actually be something decent and insightful, like
for instance, information on the whole website fiasco and what we're
able to expect in the future etc etc.

hey marsy... i know it is usually not allowed, but maybe a thread in M&M and GD warning people who are LF members to check their bank account would be a good idea.

a lot of fraud happens because people don't read their summaries, and a lot of people don't come to this forum or remember that it has been a year.

There is a featured topic warning on the front page now.

DON'T JOIN ANOTHER SITE HE PUTS UP.

How many times have we been dupped? But we keep falling for it. If you're like me, you joined because you didn't want to miss anything. Lotusflow3r was a joke. No sense of community (you get that here). No downloads that you couldn't get elsewhere. Absolutely no point in joining anything again.

Stick together. Make him pay just like he makes us pay. I got charged 77 bucks for two years in a row for an absolute piece of shit service. Not again!

All - I have a statement from Prince and Scott on its way to me now and this will be posted on here later this evening.

Please don't shoot the messenger but Prince's team have been in touch and asked me to pass on a letter to all members of LF.com

Will be in touch later - again, please don't include me in the list of who's responsible for this mess !!

By the way, if it was so clear it would auto-renew, what then are members bitching about?

Oh man this shit is so fucked up... lol

It was also clear that to prevent this, you needed to send them an e-mail. People sent the e-mail and then got charged! Shit, people removed their card info and they just went ahead and used the old info!

I signed up for a 1 year subscription and I don't think we should be hastily judging this site based on the first 364 days alone. Wait until it's been around for a full year and then you'll see the fantastic value that was offered over the lifetime of the subscription. You don't think Prince is gonna give you your full $77 worth this early into the year, do you?

Or something like that.

But it seems many on here knew it would happen, there were even threads about it as the end of March approached, so why is everyone in such a state of shock? Not about the incorrect billing but the end of LF?

2 things.

1) You're dorks for paying the money for this hackjob site. $77 bucks is not worth a chintzy, corny t-shirt and 3 albums which contained 1 album's worth of actually good music (yes, compared to today's music too even).

2) I would love for people to stop insinuating we owe Prince a damn thing. He is where he is today due to his fans. It sure as fuck hasn't been his hardwork as he has been churning out awful albums for 20 years now. 20 years now!! Think about that. Whether you like his concerts or not (and some people have different opinions of different tours) you are paying him your hard earned money to show up and do something he loves and gets paid oodles of money to do. Stop thinking you somehow fucking owe him a dime more than you give him (and in fact, he owes a lot of us more than that). I haven't spent a dime on his stupid internet projects since Crystal Ball because he is patently AWFUL at business.

I'ma add that I got LotusFlower for about $15 bucks. And there ain't a t-shirt in the world I'ma pay over 50 bucks for.

I simply do not understand the impetus to pay for his websites when everybody knows Roadhouse Garden isn't coming out until he dies and his new music is akin to "Purple and Gold"... Stop the madness.

Just a thought: bear with me on this and read it ALL THE WAY through before deciding and responding.....
We all have material that was not officially released, and probably MORE of that than original stuff.. Right?
How did all that material get around?? We traded it. Through trade trees, etc..
So, keep following me here....
Let's say Prince, lotusflow3r, creators, etc..... nobody wants to hear our cries.... What they hear are beans.. Prince has always called them the bean counters, meaning they were TOO into the money and not the art. Pot calling kettle black imo.
Well, There are 50 US states, and approx 140 countries. What if... and this is a speculation.... WHAT IF... ONLY ONE or TWO people from each state, and only a few from each country actually BOUGHT and PAID FOR the next CD that was released?????
Then it was MASSIVELY TRADED as unreleased material through the fans????

Prince (being a bean-counter) would have total sales under 1,000 copies!!!!!

Think that may get his attention??? It would mine!!!

I'd be happy with a CD-R copy knowing that Prince wouldn't mess over his fans anymore.

Anyone else????

How many artists with under 1,000 sales get invited to do interviews, appearances on TV, etc....

How better to make him realize that WE are the ones who have tolorated his non-sense for too long. Prince has lived in PRINCE-world for a long time, and we've covered the bill. Not me, not anymore. I'll buy all my copies used, or get CD-r copies.
I love the man to peices, but enough is enough and we've come to this because of him.....
How many times would you let your spouse abuse you, and keep saying "but I still love him"... before you finally take a stand?????

I love Prince, but This time I'm digging in..... I'm not gonna be taken anymore.

No more buying of official releases until he joins us on Planet Earth. No pun intended.

Anyone else on board???

Though I understand your frustration, I couldn't be part of that, and here's why...

I will happily pay for services and products that I receive and use as long as I feel there is some perception of worth, value or need on my part and that item is available. Do I enjoy paying the electric bill? No. Do I use that air conditioner like a motherfucker in the summer? Yes, I feel it's worth the fee to keep my family comfortable. Is the CEO of my electric company a dick? I don't know from personal experience, but I'll go out on a limb and say "probably".

Now Prince is an musician who's songs I tend to enjoy, even though the past decade has been much, much less less exciting for me as a consumer of his product. I believe that Prince as an artist, has the absolute right to be paid for any tangible work that he makes available to me if I want to own it.

I didn't sign up for lotusflow3r because there was zero information on the site stating what would be part of the subscription service besides a t-shirt and the 3 CD's worth of downloads. I preferred to go to Target and buy the physical CDs. I knew from being a long-time Prince fan that the "10 albums worth of material" hinted at by Scott Clay was most likely a well-timed marketing ploy with no actual substance behind it. Trust me, I wish that "10 album" statement would have been based on reality, as I would have signed up in a heartbeat. The single studio song that was offered up as an LF exclusive was certainly not worth $77. I would have gladly bought The Morning After as a single download at fair market pricing if given the option. That was obviously not part of Prince's online business model.

I would hope that my electric company never decides to offer an optional subscription service that may, or may not provide me with lights. But if they do, I'll stick with the tried and true, consumer friendly method of paying for what is actually promised.
