As 4 "the rock of gibraltar", if u know anything about travel to the Mediterranean/Spain/ Morocco as does Prince and Mayte and many of us on this site, u would not dare question The Rock of Gibraltar. For knowledge sake....google a pic of the Minn. skyline as well as " The Rock of Gibraltar". Enough of this nonsense. This is elementary stuff,,,no one should have 2 take there precious time repeating a skyline that they see everyday to some folks that are determined to make it NY, Chicago, or wherever....It is what it is Minneapolis and The Rock of Gibraltar period!!!! yes, I'm taking this one personal 4 Prince's sake!!!! It's the city he was born in as well as a place he holds dear in his heart (Spain/Morocco...The Rock of G) imo. You missed my posts . . . . with pictures. The rocks are not the Rock of Gibraltar (its singular-there is only one . . .) Nor it it the Strait of Gibraltar (two peninsulas facing each other, not islands.) Why would that be a reason? Prince can work alone . . . . Why not just do that? I find this information less than credible only because no one controls when he's in the studio but himself. can someone update the title of this thread when content beyond the 3 initial songs are added to the site? The site says "coming january 2009" when it's already january 2009. So it could be any day or it could just have the date updated feb 1st...

I agree with Never Be Another being lame. It's dull & lifeless. The lyrics speak for itself. This is a prime example of what can happen when your out of touch & you surround yourself w/ yes men. This is why prince needs an outside producer sooo bad.
Having said that Lotus Flower is "live" & sounds like a breath of fresh air, especially played right next to this b-side/corpse.

I really don't see the link. If he wanted something with Spain/Morocco the strait of Gibraltar would have been a better choice. And if i google the rock of gibraltar, I get just a rock with one top and it doesn't look like the one on the prince-site. So probably it is another rock. http://www.gibraltar.gi/t...picture=48 [Edited 1/6/09 14:58pm] Maybe its CALPE ROCK?

So Far... how i feel after a few listens.
Crimson and Clover - Nice cover, possibly the best track i've heard out of these new songs. however, I think its very easy to give him this as the best, since someone else laid the groundwork on crafting a decent song. Colonized Mind - I like the simplicity of the song, the melody is really nice. minimal production going on. The lyrics are decent. The vocal effect isn't really necessary, but doesn't get in the way too much. The song wanders a little bit, this is where production value is needed. All in all, it's a good song. Wall of Berlin - Not too bad.. it doesn't stick too well upon the first few listens. Sounds like a jam session.. i'll take something like this over a grossly layered song like he has in the past. This will do. 4ever - I'm not digging the sentimental moment he is trying to create with this. Some of the lyrics are kindof cheesy. This one is a throw away for me.. lacks heart. lyrics like this are crap "let me tell you baby, stop looking at me like that unless you want me to bite dat"... ugh... Another Like Me - I've said it over and over.. horrible. He gets a cookie for using the smooth drum programming.. but that can't be the only plus to make a song great. Lyrics, over production, terrible melody. it's like waking up to an horrible session of npgmc tracks. Here Eye Come - Bria - I'm not into the side projects, not feeling the female voice. However, I do like the instrumentation. Loose the snaps and it's spot on. Guitar work is nice.

I can't believe I got shouted at for suggesting Truro as the cityscape. Well it may well be Minneapolis but those rocks are definately from around Liskeard. I've seen them on the train when I was a kid. Or failing that it was Paignton as I can definately make out the zoo.
PS: Some of you will fall for anything. Try Googling Truro, Cornwall (England).

The skyline is without a doubt Minneapolis. The brightly lit building is the "Wells Fargo Center". This view is from the Southwest of the city and appears to have been taken from the Stone Arch Bridge. (In fact, I think the web designers may have actually used this photo for the page.) The Foshay building can't be seen from this view. At one time that was the tallest building in town. The warehouse district is directly to the front in this photo, though I haven't lived in MPLS for quite some time..Power to the people of M P L S!
Prince always brags about his hometown, and I think this is just his way of showing that. Gotta love it [Edited 1/7/09 3:46am] Dr. Fonta

Having said that Lotus Flower is "live" & sounds like a breath of fresh air, especially played right next to this b-side/corpse. Yep, but if he did hire a producer, how long would he last? Would a big name producer be able take all the crazy? Would Prince be able take criticism. Prince checks this site 6 times a day and word here is that he's new music and website are super, so i doubt that would ever happen.

What's really interesting me is the skyline, though. Prince often has hidden meanings in the artwork, so maybe the city is supposed to tell us something. So, does anyone know which city it is? The lost art of reading . . . . . . Yes, has been replaced by "understanding and using irony".

I'm (like you) far from enjoying everything prince does : I hate PE, Musicology, found 60% of 3121 pretty decent and loved TRC. But contrary to you I do not piss on someone I have appreciated so much for the last 25 years just because his last outputs are not as good as his past work. You act like if only your opinion and taste mattered in a very arrogant way. If you think a tune sucks then it surely sucks for real, doesn't it ! I know you're looking forward to invading each thread with your negative reviews of next Prince's outputs but do not get too frustrated, the music will be available soon and I'm sure you'll be delighted to piss on nearly everything. wow.. seriously? Honestly, if you think this is upsetting me. The sad fact is, I have no clue as to who you are.. and for you to remotely remember one of my posts, I am willing to give you more blunt and honest remarks. and you are right my friend, odds are i will only like a few tracks, but I still support him and will take my few tracks with me.. and I will voice when he scrapes shit on the plate... I am more ready to hear the new music than ever now You kids who get so offensive about hearing that Prince is capable of making a shitty track just astound me by your posts.. keep going!! [Edited 1/6/09 9:28am] Shit. I really hurt your feelings boy. I can see that now. I feel really bad about this. I knew you had a huge ego and a high opinion of yourself. I should have known better. But let's talk music. Let's talk guitar for instance. Wall of berlin ? Do you want me to teach you how to play these nice a la Eletric Ladyland guitar breaks ? Maybe you'll hear how great they are at last.
