If you believe everything you hear and see on Bill Maher's show then God help you. I see and hear people on TV and radio refer to people with a conservative or Christian world view as EXTREMISTS all the time and yet I can't think of anyone in the current american popular culture who is more EXTREMIST in his world view as Bill Maher. He (like Howard Dean) absolutely hates Christians. Funny though that during the time of the immediate aftermath of Katrina when one could certainly say that the machinery of the federal response was simply anemic, Christian congregations and charities were already marshalling resources to provide help and relief to thousands of unfortunate souls who lost everything, in some cases even hope. But this is only the latest example of how I only see and hear vilification of conservatives and Christians in our media but see a very different thing in real life where it truly counts. Not trying to preach, just being real and in this case "politically incorrect". [Edited 9/4/05 22:57pm] ----- That because people like Bill only see the crazy conservative Chritians like Pat Robertson. I wish of the normal christian people and groups would speak up more. It this happen you would not see people like Bill going off on Christians because they would see that we are not all mental.

Wait a minute, am I the only one who thinks this picture is a little suspect? Like it was doctored somehow? No, I'm not a Bush supporter but this picture doesn't look authentic. Does someone have the site where they posted it from? Most everyone knows it is "doctored". I don't think it is meant to be believable.

What do the lyrics mean?? He's making the point about "oil" or "music"... u choose which is better kind of thing.. and the link with sade??? sweetest taboo? where is the 'link'.. because I dont quite see it! Its very cryptic to me... its obvious he's unhappy at those who sell guns, and seems to always be asking... "what did u do about it" kind of thing... Can anyone exaplin this better ?? Its very cryptic to me... its obvious he's unhappy at those who sell guns, and seems to always be asking... "what did u do about it" kind of thing... Can anyone exaplin this better ?? Who will b a guest in your tent? Certainly not the ones who don’t wanna repent And keep giving guns 2 the poorest of our nation’s sons. Who is gonna call U by name? With no confusion, trinity or preacher’s vain? Who says that everytime And opens up the eyes of the blind Who will b the 1 in his bed? Certainly not the 1’s who put thorn’s on his head And wished him dead while they took his daily bread. Which 1 is of value 2 U? The 1 depleting the oil supply Or the One that Renews it And keeps the peace… Like the groove in Sade’s Sweetest Taboo Who will b a guest in your tent? R U gonna b happy with how Ur life has been spent? Did U have open arms 4 each and everyone U met Or did U let them die in the rain? Endless war, poverty or hurricane… Then it’s time for another groove… Like Sade’s Sweetest Taboo It seems to me that Prince is in desire of a regime change on a MEAN level. Not a John Kerry instead of George Bush. I think he wants PEOPLE in charge instead of Democrats and republicans. It sometimes amazes me, how on occassion, Prince can be soooo subtle about something sooo important. It matches his philosiphy of always being different. EVERYONE is wearing shap tailored suits. He does to...but they're lopsided, he's ALWAYS gotta be different, at whatever cost. EVERYONE is up in arms and yelling at the gov't. He simply says what he says here. that said... aside from the lyrics... like The Frog said... ...it's alright... In a nutshell... I think it means that we've gotta decide what's gonna be best for all of us...and leave the desenters behind...if necessary....or in Prince's word's...not let them in the tent. I don't think there's much of a link to The Sweetest Taboo other than the mood it might put U in while listening to it. A refrence to a change in the current mood of the population, to a better one he experienced while listening to the song in question. Not anything specific. We need to start making the more difficult, the good decisions...instead of the ones we seem to be focused on, which seem to only have number one in mind. get out of the commercial machine we're in and help the people machine. i.e.: It's time for a new groove... edit: the top 2/3's I copied and pasted from a previous post EYE made in another thread. I don't have problems playing anything else. NPGMC says that due to the nature of the problem, they can't help me. I tried all their other suggestions. Nothing works. Ugh!!!

Now Michael is coming out with his. It says it's going to take him two weeks. Prince has one in the can already yet it's Michael that gets on all the news wires. Prince really needs a better publicist.
Michael Jackson plans single for Katrina victims Sep 06 3:30 PM US/Eastern LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop star Michael Jackson, who has been in seclusion since his acquittal on sex abuse charges, has written a song that he will record to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina, his publicist said on Tuesday. Jackson will record the single, "From the Bottom of My Heart," within two weeks, and he plans to enlist other entertainers for the project, spokeswoman Raymone Bain said. "It pains me to watch the human suffering taking place in the Gulf region of my country," Jackson, 47, said in a written statement. "My heart and prayers go out to every individual who has had to endure the pain and suffering caused by this tragedy." He added: "I will be reaching out to others within the music industry to join me in helping bring relief and hope to these resilient people who have lost everything." Jackson, who left his Neverland Valley Ranch in California for Bahrain after his acquittal on child molestation charges in June, will record the song on a label owned by Bahrain's crown prince, Bain said, and donate the proceeds to hurricane victims. Bain said Jackson was hoping to repeat the success he had with "We Are the World," a 1985 charity single with dozens of the era's top recording stars that raised more than $60 million for Africa. Jackson wrote the song with singer Lionel Richie. Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

I posted in my blog that i can't imagine ANYBODY coming up with a track like this - fully written and recorded and produced and to the fans - as quickly as Prince. Amazing, amazing, amazing. Some people... May I point y'all to the War Child album in the UK? This year for the second time a bunch of artists will record AN ENTIRE ALBUM (i.e. one song apiece) IN ONE DAY and release it on iTunes THE NEXT DAY (and release it on CD as soon as possible). They did this about 10 years ago too (without the iTunes thingy of course). So please, no more of that "only Prince can do this" crap, it's been done before and those efforts (unlike this Prince track) will get lots of press and will generate a ton of money. © Bart Van Hemelen

Maybe you should read that bible again and look up what it says about lying and gossiping. Hey man if you want to be a cheerleader for Bill and the blatant hostility that he spews out on the regular, that's your right, a right that I might add that in this country is protected. As for his reputation, that completely depends on who you're talking to because it certainly changes from one end of the spectrum to the other with regard to the american populus. Your view certainly isn't representative of me or millions of others. I personaly don't believe that tar could smear that man but that's beside the point. In this country a critical observation of someone's regularly taped and documented comments does not by any means constitute either lying or gossiping. That would be communist China. I work for NPR no less. We do this everyday. I don't have to wonder too much if you would accuse me of such nonsense if I agreed with your assessment of Mr. Maher. Your real problem obviously is that I don't hold your view. How dare me. Very "tolerant" of you. I admit however that I probably couldn't expect anything else from someone whose opening characterization of my faith community was "kooky Christians". No, I'm pretty sure that the true volumes that have been disclosed here speak not of my heart but your own. Oh, and I'm all caught up on what the Bible says regarding both lying and gossiping. You see I actually read and believe it, and won't just reference it to make failed points having no apparent experiencial knowledge of that in which I reference. Folks, it was not my intention to get this far off field of the thread so with respect toward my fellow orgers I'll simply say that my email is listed and I'm happy and equipped to further engage in this dialogue but this thread is not the place. Watching the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina's wrath, Sade's "Sweetest Taboo" was put on a loop. After which Prince wrote "SST" early Friday morning, Sept 2nd, after staying up all night. He sang all the voices and played all the instruments. "Brand New Orleans" (featured in Glam Slam this weekend) is the xtended jam at the end of "SST." All instruments again by Prince. Just a lil somethin' 2 take away the blues. All proceeds from the sale of the cybersingle will go 2 Hurricane Relief. I know. But unlike you, I go by the EVIDENCE and not by hurt feelings. (What is it with conservatives that makes them so sensitive to even the slightest comments or jokes, yet completely insensitive to actual suffering?) Yeshua4all said: In this country a critical observation of someone's regularly taped and documented comments does not by any means constitute either lying or gossiping. That would be communist China.
Maher got fired for something he said post-9/11 (which was BTW an old joke that originated in the previous Gulf war). What was that you said about freedom of expression? Yeshua4all said: I admit however that I probably couldn't expect anything else from someone whose opening characterization of my faith community was "kooky Christians".
I said: "extremists, like all those kooky Christians who demand that their opinion be made into law." I SPECIFICALLY refer to the EXTREMISTS. Apparently you didn't pay attention in reading class -- or maybe you did understand me perfectly well and you're one of those who march alongside loons like Robertson, once again mistaking their UNchristian opinions and remarks and actions as something you need to defend. Then again, the simple fact that you compare Maher to Hitler speaks volumes. The simple fact that you get upset that Maher "berates and denegrates Christians" yet fail to notice that he says similar things about Muslim extremists also speaks volumes. Maher dislikes ALL organised religions -- that is a FACT. Yeah, maybe he talks more about those who you consider to be christians, but then again that's just logical: he is an American and America is being overrun by christian extremists who want to force their agende upon others. © Bart Van Hemelen
