WOW the life of a superstar!
Now I love me some Prince but the Two Back 2 Back Hit Albums comment... What do you consider Hit Albums??? I feel the only people talking about Prince is us die hards. Nobody out there in general is raving about those 2 Albums you are calling Hits...? Please explain

Standard "TOO MANY HITS / WHERE IS MY CHECK" setlist there. I'm sure it was great fun but he can do that one in his sleep.
I think you have to put into perspective the audience he is playing for. In this case he has been hired by a multimillionaire to play at his NYE party. Its fair to assume that perhaps this bloke is a Prince fan.
That said, the rest of the crowd, some will be Prince fans, some will be not necessarily fans but will be familiar with his bigger hits, some will simply not be familiar with Princes music at all. The set list to me seems to be a "safe" set list that incorporates a good number of his biggest hits plus a few other highlights from his career. Lets face it, unless he is playing to a guarunteed room fulll of die hard Prince fanatics, hes not going to start playing a show full of B-Sides and rarities, otherwise he wil have a room full of perplexed people watching him play and wondering what the fuck is going on.

I'm well aware of the audience he was playing for but that doesn't mean he has to phone it in. I'm not gonna give him kudos for taking a massive cheque while playing the laziest setlist of the past 5 years. I'm sure it was great fun and all the millionaires filled their instagrams. |

You expect Prince to carry his own gear? You should be in the nonsense thread.
I know thats right. But why does Kirk look like he had a stroke? Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE |

I think it's because he, as the best man at the first (and second?) wedding, and Prince's best friend didn't expect he also had to carry the gear around.
But of course then some of you wouldn't haven't been able to drool over the 'sexy' outfit
or his amazing hair, or his general amazing appearance, because the guitar case would have been in the way. Stop the Prince Apologists ™ |

All Prince music since Sign O The Times is shit.
Shitty set list, he doesn't play anything new.
LOL, me too.
My favorite threads are the concert threads where people who weren't there bellyache about the set list.
But the Orgers who WERE there post how amazing the show was.
Never fails to crack me up!

Remember when Prince said the "lifetime" in "Lifetime NPG Music Club membership" didn't refer to YOUR lifetime but to the lifetime of the Club?
This is the same principle. These albums were "hits" for Prince because Prince got paid. And that's cool with me. With today's digital cluster****/stealing of music, it's hard to say whether a release really is a hit or not, like in the old days.
So if the artist gets paid, that's good enough to define "hit" for me. I get it. By that standard, I hope that every artist releases a hit this year.

He doesn't have to play show full of B-Sides and rarities but he could have Mixed that Set List up more and still Gott Off!!!
Put yourself in the shoes of the man that hired Prince. If YOU hired Prince, and YOU paid $1,500,000 or so of YOUR OWN MONEY, would YOU want input into the set list? I bet you would! I know I would! I wouldn't pay Prince that much of my own money unless he agreed to play some of the stuff I wanted to hear. I'd make that a condition of the gig.
So this guy probably did too. I wouldn't be surprised if one of his conditions was that Prince NOT play any songs that most people had never heard.

You cannot compare those.
Setlists are close to factual.
The experience though is very subjective and suffers from a multitude of factors. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

Yea, You have a point, if somebody paid me 10% of that, maybe even 5%, I'd still play whatever they want to hear!!! Maybe even 1% |

Based on guesses derived from booking agency info we saw in 2014, I think Prince's private party fee is between $1,000,000 and $2,000,000. But that's just a guess.

The idiocy on this forum never ceases to amaze me!
At the end of the day this was a NYE bash, thrown by Roman Abramovich on a private island, with free top class booze, free top class food, celebs and sexy people galore, a free trip on a 2.5 billion yatcht and f***ing Prince playing a concert!
Regardless of whether or not he played the hits, the B-sides or the theme tune to Top Cat on a theremin, THIS would of been a f***ing good party and you'd pull your right nut off to go!
