Not everybody has seen him live twenty or thirty or a hundred times. If you're a die hard fan like us, then yes, a set like this would be boring even if he plays it well. But I don't think there were a lot of die hard fans there and I'm pretty sure the jet set who was there enjoyed, if only because they can say that they saw Prince at a private party. If he does another European tour then, no, a set like this wouldn't be worth €100 or more of my money, but I'll worry about that when the time comes.

On the real....The rest of the world doesn't obsessively comb over every aspect of Prince's setlist. There are people who have yet to see Prince. There are people who have seen Prince a few times...

People that don't ruin the live experience for themselves usually walk away from a Prince show with a smile on their face.

Just saying, homie....

She could be aware of the fact that a few years have passed since the time that 90% of that setlist's songs were written.

She could be aware that she is younger than the age of those songs.

She could be aware that there might be other songs written since the time that 90% of that setlist's songs were written.

She could be ware that by writing what she did in the way she did she revealed she has a fairly simplistic view of the Prince man.

If she had written such words about e.g. the Paard van Troje bootleg's setlist or perhaps one of the North Sea Jazz nightly gigs from a few years back that would be a tad (understatement) different.

She displayed a very narrow view on what defines the Prince man as an artist, despite his tendency to play just the old stuff these days.

That in fact is negative on both herself as it is on the Prince man as he can do so much more, at times.

And as she will be able to do more, in experiencing music and writing about such experiences, as time pases.

It has little to do with seeing umpteen shows. It has to do with listening to diverse music and acquiring a decent taste, accepting stuff as quality music in different styles, etc.

She displayed herself as a teenager while I guess she is a tad older than that.

So I judge her as an adult which she is.

You were the first one on this thread to mention a setlist. Stella is the only somebody I know of who got a setlist front the stage. If she's casual then so are you.

Was the photo from after the concert? eek

I thought from before.

Then still it doesn't say much about her approach of admiring the Prince man.

Now I know what happened! The Stella woman snatched the set list before the show, so the Prince man didn't know what to play and just started jamming and threw in Interactive, Now, PFunk, Illusion Coma Pimp & Circumstance, Lady Cab Driver, Witness 4 the Prosecution... It was the most awesomest gig ever!

You need to get your facts straight. Wendy and Lisa played Witness 4 The Prosecution while the Prince man was off stage picking the Purple Pick Of The Week with Larry.

I strongly disagree. She simply like it when Prince actually made great music. That setlist is filled with his greatest hits. Only two of the songs are turds from his more recent output. It's probably one of the few chances she's got to see Prince live, I don't blame her for wanting it to be filled with great music.

Yes, can't have the impression that this deeply religious JW is celebrating a pagan holiday, right?

Also, looking forward to the famz explaining why Prince does these kind of gigs when he's supposed to be super-wealthy.

If somebody was going to pay me $5 million to do a single show, Id do it without question.....rich or not rich. A huge proportion of Princes income these days would be from live performances, whether that be full scale concert tours or single show corporate gigs.

I think you have to put into perspective the audience he is playing for. In this case he has been hired by a multimillionaire to play at his NYE party. Its fair to assume that perhaps this bloke is a Prince fan.

That said, the rest of the crowd, some will be Prince fans, some will be not necessarily fans but will be familiar with his bigger hits, some will simply not be familiar with Princes music at all. The set list to me seems to be a "safe" set list that incorporates a good number of his biggest hits plus a few other highlights from his career. Lets face it, unless he is playing to a guarunteed room fulll of die hard Prince fanatics, hes not going to start playing a show full of B-Sides and rarities, otherwise he wil have a room full of perplexed people watching him play and wondering what the fuck is going on. lol
