Yeah that's really weird isn't it? Wonder if we'll ever know the setlist neutral

Don't get it. We've always reported on private gigs before. Even if there was a reason, just post the reason. Besides its not very private if fans are paying £250 on the door.

Hopefully we get some news about what happened, I'm following @jamiestarr1uk on twitter for the inside info as he seems to be the most keen to say what's going on. Was going to go down after work but decided against it having been to both bham shows in the last week and lacking funds to donate at least £250 - will be sad if I find out they let in people for free though!

Can't see anyone else mentioning so before i forget, Thanks to the lady in the purple tee who took it upon herself to do the fan numbering yesterday. It does not go unappreciated. Might not seem like much to scribble numbers on the back of peoples paws but it is appreciated, so thanks from no 26.

It was A and her friend, R - they were absolute stars. I don't mention their names simply because I don't know if they's want them mentioned, and they did it to make sure it was fair for everybody.

The organisation at the LG Arena was the best I have come across for people who queued all day.

If you want to show support for the way they managed it, do send feedback to: feedback@necgroup.co.uk

And, no, I don't work for the NEC / LG Arena, I was just one of the lucky people who appreciated the effort that was put in to make it all work.

And what a show.

Yeah, already fired off an e-mail praising the wonderful Kevin. He did a great job.

A job that he can't do if we're not numbered.

To be honest ,it was that good, i'd do the LG over London if it was a choice between the two.

Well, no, not strictly true. I'd do both.

I shall also fire off a complimentary email to Kevin and his crew - the organisation was superb - their efforts really tied a vivid purple bow on such a memorable experience smile

.

I was playing with the notion of heading out for a gig tonite (lead singer of an all-time favorite band of mine - The Chameleons - playing debut album in its entirety-type-thang) .. I think I'm just going to continue basking in my Purple aura from Monday - for it has been proven: there IS only one gig worth going to .. I have officially reached my gig-going zenith (as I thought I had in Feb too) eek

.

As all others pale in comparison .. what's the point of accepting anything less? razz

.

Let's have some more London dates, please (non private affairs) .. there's more queuing in me yet! cool

P usually has someone at the side of the stage running the teleprompter, could it have been her?

In Montreux there was a girl with a Macbook at a desk in view at the side of the stage. Judging by the number of times she was getting it wrong and getting *looks* from P I wonder if it's still the same girl!

Worried? Really?

Every single die-hard, long-time, seen-Prince-25-times poster on here has said this show is one of the best they've ever seen - if not THE best.

Sounds to me like you ought to be praying he does this setlist for you.

Last night in Birmingham was definitely up there. P was on fire!

Agreed. Sheperds Bush in February was transcendent but this was the best large-scale arena gig I've seen from Prince and I've probably seem him live about 25 times.

Prince is on incredible form at the moment. And that extended version of 'LRC' - min-blowing. And the pure yearning vunerability of his voice on 'Sometimes it Snows in April' - pure, skin-tingling genius.

Vocally Birmingham was one of the best concerts I've seen from Prince. He really used his voice as an instrument.

I have to say this was an absolutely incredible night!

I'd been very luck to have seen him both nights of Machester (both of which were amazing as well, especially being 3 rows from the front!)

With 2 shows in February at Electric Ballroom and KOKO as well I could certainly say I'd had my fix for 2014.

Monday came along and hadn't really hit a downer but I still had a look at what was going on with the Birmingham gig, then I came across a tweet saying that a dance company had inherited 80 tickets from the pormoters to fill the arena(!)

Couldn't help but think it was bullshit but I still enquired and after chatting to a lovely girl named becki, who put me on to her brother Paul to meet him at the arena; me and the fiancee made our way up after finishing work at 6 and after crapping myself for 30 minutes that it might've actually been bullshit, Paul showed up (like a knight in shining armour for me! biggrin )

We were seated right at the back of the arena but fortunately it wasn't too far to not enjoy it:

I will admit from the back it looked like a pretty dull audience who most certainly didn't respond to newer material like Guitar, FunknRoll or Plectrum Electrum (which not surprisingly Prince didn't morph into Fix Ur life up like he has virtually every show for the last year) No doubt I know some dedicated fans were at this show right at the front, so I'm sure it was ape shit down the front but the majority of the arena was lifeless unless the hits were played). It did pick up toward the end in fairness.

As for the setlist. Very much a set structure he has for these shows in regards to the opening (which like some others have said, reminds me of the 20ten/11 tours)

That said the energy on this tour has been infectious, the rendtions havde been superb especially with Purple Rain and Nothing compares 2 U. Then there's the good few gems that have popped up on this tour and this night was no exception(!)

FOREVER IN MY LIFE ON BASS!!!! (My fiancee and I were up and dancing by the 3rd song and this is only the second time she's seen him live but of all the times I've seen him live I've never heard this and coincidentally it's what she wants as our first dance she likes it that much so this was unbelievable timing)

SOMETIMES IT SNOWS IN APRIL - Lovely fleshed out version

DREAMER

then the encore!!!

Lights came up people started leaving but a lot of dedicated fans began chanting the Oh wi Oh Wooooooo!!

PRETZELBODYLOGIC AND WHAT'S MY NAME!!!!! (with sacrifice of victor lyrics!!!!)

Fantastic night I will never forget and chuffed that I could do it with my wife to be biggrin

yes it was apeshit at the front....goes without saying it's where those who turned up early were. Excellent atmosphere at the front and I was right on the barrier. Think it helped that, being there at the front, meant there will little bonuses like Marissa smiling and waving at folks from her seat, watching Laura Mvula jigging away on the sofa or Prince TRYING to sneak on to watch Laura but getting spotted and, whilst lying on the floor to watch her, pulling faces at her sister/violinist to try to fluster her - best gig I've been to

So envious of the people standing at the barrier, right in the action, incidently what time did you need to be there for that to happen?

I had seats, since I was coming from London after work and there were a number of people behind me who refused to stand the entire evening! I was so glad for the encore, ended up with a different crowd, I've never danced so much, makes all the difference.

Some people got there really early (no1 was overnight but then he'd been to a gig the night before) , I got there at 11 and was 24 but I think the first 100 got wristbands and that number weren't there until much later

Have to add you really don't need to go through alot of pain to get to the front. I got there around 13:20 and was no 37. Walked off to get a subway...came back for a lay in the sunshine on the grass ...writsbands handed out and before you knew it ...we were being led in. Manged to get to the bar just to the right of centre. All depends on the venue I guess and those involved organising the gold circle deserve respect. I was block 16 on the side seated for Thu and I guess from the seats you cant gauge how great the atmosphere is standing....on Monday eve it was the best I have experienced.

Atricle in Local Birmingham Evening Mail http://www.birminghammail...ee-7159422 (Tim Parsons, seems to have a bit of a bee in his bonnet about Prince)

Scores of lucky fans grabbed free tickets to see Prince perform atthe LG Arena on Monday night because promoters were desperate to fill empty seats.

The pint-sized pop idol performed for the first time in Birmingham for 19 years last week when he kicked off the latest leg of his Hit & Run tour.

The Mail’s reviewer Enda Mullen said the punt... money’.

But when the 55-year-old megastar returned for an encore in the second city on May 19, he was faced with a concert which failed to sell out.

While some hardcore fans paid around £140 for top seats, others couldn’t believe their luck when they were handed free tickets on the day of the concert.

Student Lucia Carter, 22, from Kings Heath, said: “It was such an amazing show, I would have definitely paid to go - getting the tickets for free was just unbelievable.”

She added: “The place was pretty packed but there were a few empty seats - not enough for it to have been very noticeable though.”

Tyler Hubbard, from Birmingham, tweeted: “Just got free tickets to go see Prince because Prince ‘has to play a sold-out show’.”

Dan Kelly, who presents the Capital FM’s breakfast show in Birmingham, wrote: “Am I the only person in Birmingham that didn’t get offered free Prince tickets? Heard he’s still got it.”

But Jon Garbett, 25, from Solihull, paid £73.50 for his ticket - but doesn’t have any regrets.

He said: “It was fantastic and I would pay that sum of money again in a heartbeat to see Prince another time.

“He was even better than I thought he would be - and I had pretty high expectations.

“I only have love for his purpleness.”

An LG Arena spokesperson said the arena played no role in distributing free tickets.

She said: “We were not involved in, nor aware of any free tickets being handed out at the Prince concert on Monday evening. Although we were aware of a small number of ticket touts being on-site.”

Tim Parsons, the former CEO of LiveNation, one of the world’s biggest pop promoters, said the gig was ‘papered’ - meaning very few tickets had been sold.

He said: “The gig was papered as it hadn’t sold many tickets, hence the reason so many took up a freebie to then learn why it hadn’t sold many, an over indulged ex-star trading on a wasted talent.”

A representative for Prince could not be reached for comment

I've seen the future and it will be
