I think what's obvious is MPLS's normal response to a hometown artist playing regular gigs at his house. When that artist travels to a foreign country every 5 years or so then the people in that country are gonna let you know how exciting that uncommon event is. Make sense? I don't charge for common sense.

You also have to consider the population and size of where you're talking about.

The state of Minnesota:

Area - 86,939 sq miles (225,181 km²)

Population - 5,420,380

England (I'm not even going UK or all of Europe):

Area - 50,346 sq miles (130,395 km²)

Population - 53 million

With 10 times the population in a little over half the space you're simply going to have a heck of a lot more people who are into Prince who can get to a show on little notice.

Considered. The other poster is talking about excitement levels, though. I say, of course a place is going to be more excited about Prince if he plays there much less often. Argument over.

seriously? why? i assumed the guy i talked to who had his phone out and was holding it openly had to have worked for Paisley Park? he wasn't at all shy about using it. i dunno. i guess i don't really want to rat out specific people. anyway that was the night prince didn't perform

Also, those people that show up to the Park half (or more) hammered and/or smoke weed in Paisley's bathrooms (or worse), should have a little more respect for the Man and his House.

It's really a privilege to be there and I can't really think of any other artist of his stature. that semi-regularly opens his own place to his fans and the public.

eek

exaggeration. no one smokes in the bathrooms at PP.

He just played a 4-hour gig in Los Angeles (with a 4-page setlist that was widely considered one of his best gigs ever). This was less than a year after last playing in LA (not 5-odd years after playing in a foreign city like London). You should know when to give up.

You obviously weren't around when it happened, just before Prince took the stage and had his security looking everywhere for the source...

^for real???! i stand corrected. but, in all the times i've been there i've never seen anything like that. the bathrooms are not private either so that wouldn't be possible. i guess i always thought the sweet smelling smoke was all that incense they burn out there.

if that's really going on it's not cool at all. folks need to not use drugs and alcohol out at paisley park. if prince's fans use weed/booze out there, it could result in real trouble with the cops and shut down the parties forever.

Weird? Really? When an event is advertised as DJ|Dance|Live Music, I don't plan on sitting my ass down in a "decent seat" or "standing around for several hours." If you want to do that then stay home. That's always been the problem at Paisley Park. People just want to see Prince play, I do too, but I'm not going to hover around the stage for hours on end for him to play. People shouldn't expect him to play, unless he advertises it that way.

I think the discussion was veering more towards wait times at Prince concerts generally. By all means, do what you must do at a dance party.

Not according to this link from March.

Well the organizers were telling you the exact opposite of the information that was sent out to the media back in March. The truth is people do not take the time to read or pay attention to anything and then blame the artist for their mistake. If I am not mistaken Frankie Beverly and Maze always close this festival so I doubt P was every going to close it out.
