I think it was that P and his folks offered tickets at a reasonable price and the scalpers got them. There is a strange vibe about it, agreed. That is my best guess. Philmoreliz

any ideas on merch available and prices on that?

ah man that sucks. Sorry to hear that.

Agreed. I think allowing people to grab 4 tix was too much (if all 2,800 spots were offered up and everyone bought 4, it would be possible for just 700 to purchase all the tix and flip their extras). Also, the relative ease of transfering the tickets definitely encouraged flipping. DNA seemed much stricter by requiring pick-up of tix in-person. It was a lot more labor for scalpers/flippers. I wish they set aside some for the die-hards willing to travel to the box office that night or the next morning. I also think that had a Sunday show been added, it would have hurt the scalper market significantly for Saturday. Oh well, hope everyone who is going has a wonderful time and hopefully Prince will be back soon.

But the show will, not doubt, erase all tears. Philmoreliz

I have some acquaintances that work for Ticketmaster. From what I heard, there was some major drama regarding a possible Sunday show. Lots of long phone calls. Ultimately, I was told "if theres going to be a Sunday show, it WONT be at the Fox."
They said they wanted to do a "ticketless" show for a Sunday show to avoid scalping. Only the person who purchased the tix could get them and must enter with the whole party immediately, etc.. So, I dont know if it was the Fox that had an issue with that or what, but as of yesterday, it was a no-go.
Thats all I know. Something may have changed since then, but it sounds like no second Fox show. Maybe somewhere else? New Parish did cross my mind.

I bought a ticket today off craigslist and I'm in line. If there's any news about an after show, will someone PLEASE TEXT ME? (925)788-5874 thanks!

Thanks for this info. This is pretty much exactly what I suspected. I was surprised that they let tickets go out without a comparatively strict means to limit scalping/flipping. I hope something comes through for Sunday. Thanks again.

Just a different view taken from Twitter. Maybe gives a clue as to how some more "casual" music/prince fans view things. This was about tonight's show in Oakland...
"Prince concert was good. Disappointed famous songs were medleys instead of full length. Only played 90 min set + encore." "At the Prince concert. It's like I'm stuck in one of those horrible '90s Best Hits TV ads that play several seconds of all pop songs ever" And the other extreme... "Best. Concert. Ever. And there's about to he another encore. #prince #4hourshow" [Edited 3/16/14 0:34am] Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Having seen Prince at the DNA lounge and a few other venues in the recent past, I have to say...this was probably the worst Prince concert I've been to. Compared to the DNA lounge; same band, same songs for the most part, this just did not have the same energy at all. It was like they were going through the motions. And the sampler set....yes, maybe for casual fans, first-timers, etc., it's cool; but 6 songs in? I was like, fuck. The encore was great with the NPG Horns, but when that was over, I just left. I think I "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" as I was leaving. I thought I was in for a treat given what I read of the LA shows. It's like Oakland was just a stop on the way home. He did give a shout out to Sheila E though, which was nice given recent history between them.
One positive; I do love to see Donna play. Seems like her confidence level has shot through the roof. She gives Prince a run for his money.

It was a weird set. Been a long day & I did get a ticket from a real cool cat from Pacifica. Ill disagree & say the first 1/3 of the set was fire . He did that great Version of something in the water & he had that look about him like he was going to kill but then I think there were too many casual fans that did not respond to the call response so he reverted to playing it safe from that point on. Musicology was great with him on guitar & the horn players but then it became a medley show & I walked out . Still a good show but the speed bump from the middle to the end was kinda weird.

I'll give a better review tomorrow... But I haven't seen prince before other than a arena show. I thought it started out great.. Some great dirty rock/blues versions of songs. Loved she's always in my hair. In the encores it got weaker. I thought it was cool when he was on keys and performing solo. Like when he did a but he stayed back there for the rest of the show. But all in all better than a show you'll see by anybody else for the most part

Thanks for the quick review. Very sorry to hear you got ripped off earlier on getting tickets. Hopefully you will get your money back soon and the MF pays for being a con artist. This is the 1st Bay Area show I missed since 1985 as I was 2 hours late to ticket sales. Am on a tight budget and was looking for a Sunday show that never happened. I did go to the DNA last year so it seems I really didn`t miss much. [Edited 3/16/14 1:38am]

Exactly my take. She's Always In My Hair was fantastic.

I was seriously grooving at the beginning, reallly drinking in the music, dancing like mad. IT WAS ABOUT THE MUSIC. Then it pretty much tapered off. The pop medleys were horrible. I also think the sound in general was bad and boomy. I got tired of him behind the keys for so many songs. In general it had far less shape and polish than the other shows I've seen. But I definitely got my Prince fix, and Purple Rain was nice. I liked it when he said, "I never get tired of this song."

Yeah Prince gave it up to Bay Area artists Sheila E, Sly, Larry, and even George Duke. Remember the Dookie Stick?
