Only in Prince land would fans complain about the timing of a show when tickets are going for a ridiculous 10 pounds....

Man...fuck this place...lol

Seriously. Stop the whining would ya? He's finally doing shows in London yet people stiill complain? Now that was badass show! I would have rather seen that than the NPG show that we got in Dec. Yo P, feel free to stop off in NYC on your way back to Minnesota! Hope everyone had a blast!

I have just witnessed the greatest show on earth... prince and 3rdeyegirl just tore the roof off Shepherd's Bush Empire. Over 2 1/2 hours, I was standing ten rows back, awesome. Prince is happy, I cannot remember all songs from the set, but highlights: Colonized Mind Forever in My Life Something in the Water (unbelievable) Piano medly, incl Do Me Baby, Beautiful Ones, How Come Hits online the backing track, amazing set incl SOTT, When Doves Dreamer Bambi Endorphine Machine And on and on.... I have seen P many times, incl aftershows, this was by far the very very best I have ever seen him, it starts very heavy, and Donna plays such amazing guitar, the vibe is Hendrix, meets Sly meets Prince... If you can see this show, SEE THIS SHOW? worth queuing and yes, it really only cost £10!!!!! This will go down as one of the best gigs ever played by anyone, ever.

Spot on with the review, plus I would throw a bit of Led Zepplin in for good measure...

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Typical, spent friday and Saturday in London in nothing but hope and was less than 2mile from SBE at the same time the gig was announced on the Saturday. Gutted is not the word. Hope there is more than few fans who travelled to London in hope still kicked around long enough to catch this gig. Am sure all lucky enough to have been in the right place at the right time will have a great night. As for me am a few hundred lighter and my feet are killing me!

I really hope that you get a chance to get to one of these gigs, but I know that like me, you have just spent a mini fortune. Due to the tube strike I ended up spending way to much on taxis, and in the excitement of it all on wednesday, a bit too much on beer. What I spent on wednesday will probably curb how many of these shows I get to. So last night will probably be exactly that. Plus I have a few other gigs that I have tickets to see this month and next. However, with a bit of discipline it can be done on a shoestring budget.

Last night I spent, and wait for this, even I dont believe it...8.50 on some crisps, water, energy drinks for a mate, and a six pack. 10 pound on the door. A friend bought me a beer before the gig started, and thats it. So it can be done. As I have a travel card for work, I have not included the price of the tube/transport. There is a few more weeks left in february, so hang in there.

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Not quite had time to pause for thought since last night and certainly can't figure out where to rank it in my Prince concert going.

But I should say that this was proper legend.

- unbelievable set-list - just checking off "every Prince song you wish he would play, but he doesn't" - well, he did - Chaos and Disorder, Endorphinemachine, I Like it There, Plectrum Electrum, Hot Thing, Adore...

- full on Rock-God, Hendrix-channelling, threshing, shredding and thrashing

- most of the non-sampler/keyboard songs were delivered full length

- great crowd - nice people in the queue - no pushing or shoving in the concert - even in the 2nd row

Spotted (aside from George Clinton) - Nick Grenshaw, Cara Delvigne, Dane Bowers (apparently -don't really know who that is, but people in the queue seemed to know) and Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip.

My 20 cents on the ticket price was that it should have been £70 - but they didn't announce a price, so people had the £10 in their head, and were a bit grumpy about it, so he decided to change it. My guess is, next time, a ticket price will be announced at the same time as the rest of the details, so people's expectations are set.

And let's be clear about it 2,000 at £10 probably didn't even cover the hire of the venue; changing the ticket price left £120 large on the table - so I'd like to say thanks to the man for being so generous!

Cara Delevingne was also there, she is the model that you often see hanging out with Rihanna. She was on the balcony opposite George Clinton. The women who was on the far left in the yellow dress on George Clintons Balcony is Prince´s manager.

My first ever post on here!

I was there at Shepherd's Bush last night having only recently got into Prince. AMAZING!!! Queued for 5 hours - froze my butt off but well worth it. Just regret all the years I could have enjoyed him but then again I still have stuff that is new to me to look forward to so I can enjoy the discovery. biggrin

I also saw the girl who played Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter films, she was front and centre on the first balcony, and I think that was Gemma Arterton dressed in black sitting behind George Clinton on the balcony

I was just ( geek ) checking which Prince gigs I have seen and wondering if this really was up there at the top. I've seen Prince live 12 times now and this is my new favourite five in no particular order:

Ultimate Live Experience (Gold) tour, 4th March 1995 - Wembley Arena
21 Nights (Earth) tour, Saturday 4th August 2007 main show
3121 at Indigo2, 10th September (am) 2007
9th February 2014, Shepherds Bush Empire
Act II tour, 31st July 1993 Wembley Stadium

Two other gigs are up there too but not quite in my personal top five:

21 Nights (Earth) tour, Friday 21st September 2007 main show (last night)
Hop Farm, 3rd July 2011.
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I wrote a review (without knowing there was a 150 word limit) for the Telegraph, who posted a bit of an edit of the whole thing:

http://www.telegraph.co.u...views.html

Here's the whole thing as originally written...

=================================

It was cold - people were queuing from midday to 7pm on a bitter February day. It only rained once, and Prince had Hot Chocolate delivered to the waiting fans around 6 o'clock - but still, it was a pretty bone-chilling way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

It was cheap - it was supposed to be £70, which everyone was expecting to pay - and it ended up being just a tenner. At 2000 people, that was net £20,000 ticket sales for the show - which is probably less than it cost him to hire the venue. Despite his jokes about passing round his big black hat, Prince left £120,000 on the table at this gig – which makes him a very generous man.

It was loud - 3rdEyeGirl were made to shred. And thrash. And rock. And funk. Prince ransacked his back catalogue - from his most popular tunes, to his earliest albums, to his most obscure Internet-only releases - to choose the most mosh-tastic tunes and play to his band's not inconsiderable strengths.

It was intimate - for his first encore, Prince sat alone in the dark toying with some of his most delicate melodies - just keys and voice, alone, in the dark.

It was funky - he plays a sample of a tune, straps on a bass and just jams it out - showing any DJ you'd care to name that it really makes a difference if you can play more than a record.

It was long - 2 and a half hours of music, more or less, with 5 (count em!) encores (see above re: £10). And it was obvious that, if he wanted to, he could have gone for another 2 and a half hours more. It wasn't a competition between him and the audience to see who would last longer - he barely broke a sweat, and, like a generous opponent in the boxing ring, let us leave while we were still standing.

It was, in a word, awesome - in the old fashioned sense of the term. Prince is (obviously) just a man, but let's be honest - to see him like this, you have to admit that despite his humanity, he inspires a strange kind of existential terror by wrapping so much talent into a single mortal frame.

Such an amazing gig. The songs have been playing through my head over and over all day.

I've been trying to decide which my favourite bit was, but I simply can't... I mean, even the "Sampler Set" section was genuinely awesome!
