Aus support acts, prince start time?

Based on recent tours is their likely to be a support act and what time does he generally come on?

I ask as I have a friend driving up from Canberra who won't get to the allphones until 9.00. She assumed she would be ok. I wasn't so sure.

Any ideas?

Ta. I checked the vault website and looked at all the Canada and Europe dates since June. Most had no support and on average he came on half an hour late so an 8.30 start is likely if the pattern continues.

Prince's ego wouldn't allow a support act. If you are lucky, he may invite a guest on stage as he did overseas.
I just can't believe all the things people say !

He will start approx 8 to 8.30pm as most of these venues have curfews at 11pm.

He was his own support act in Arnhem, 2010. The only real support act i have ever seen was MAdhouse. I wouldn't count on one anyway. Your friend might have to calculate some speeding tickets in het overall budget.....

In Belgium we had Selah Sue as opening act in 2010 and Sharon Jones & The Daps Kings as opening act in one of the 2 shows in Ghent during the W2AEurotour 2011

When I went to LA last year, Janelle Monae was the support act the first night, I've actually forgotten who was the support act on the 14th (but there was one), there was no support act in Fresno, and GCS played support for the two in San Jose. ALL of those concerts started *at least* 30mins late.

That said, LA was a bit different. I suspect he has a support act if he wants to showcase someone, but not by default. I think Hypnotic Brass Ensemble was a support act in Malahide?

Personally, I want to see Cheap Fakes (ToeJam's band) as the support act for Oz!!! How cool would that be?!

That said, if there are curfews at the venues, I'd rather the support act come on earlier and leave heaps of room for Prince and his (hopefully) many encores biggrin

I saw them here in Melbourne a very weeks ago for their album launch. Definitely an awesome live band!

Andy All confused
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Word is that he'll have 2 support acts coming on before him.

Vanity 6 and The Time.

Apparently they'll be appearing in his up and coming movie as well!

Cool.

I'm not sure if they supported all the Aussie 92 shows or just some but the support act was Djaambi.

From memory - I think at the time there was some rule that said overseas touring acts must use a local Australian support act. I'm pretty sure this has now changed.

Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

Another email from Prince - he has asked us to share his musical present he gave to us the other day.

We have been asked to wait for a minute - but we will bring it when the word is given.

Y'all know he is on is way to Australia, right?
Who do you want to open for him??

Maybe a hint smile Hmmm....

More news - posted tonight on Fdeluxe's FB page:

"We got our mind made up, we've had enough, we're taking back that ship" ... a new take on a old favourite?

So, if Mutiny is the "message" Prince gave Terry through song, well...suffice to say I'm less optimistic about either of them being support acts now wink

At least it means we should be hearing some funky new/old music soon though biggrin

They'll be crazy to turn down an offer that would put them back infront of an audience in the thousands! I have a feeling they're going to join smile

I looked up Andy McKee - I'd heard of him, guitarist, but never heard his work - MAN, have I been missing out! Spent all night listening to him. He's amazing. And it looks like he's on tour in Asia now, so maybe he's gonna swing by Australia and open for Prince? McKee's of such a caliber that I don't think he'd be P's backup guitarist or something - he needs his own spotlight.
