What do you define as loud?

With Prince, you will expect to hear searing guitar solos, loud vocal sections, various call and response routines throughout the show.

But that said, I dont think you can compare Prince and band with acts like Metallica and other heavy metal bands, who more often than not, trade entirely on making it loud and grating.

The shows I saw last year were louder than I was expecting them to be, but, providing the sound man is doing a better job than he did at the North Sea Jazz Festival (where loudness was a substantial problem), it shouldn't be as loud as something like Iron Maiden.

If you're worried about it, you might want to have some ear plugs on hand just in case, but at the very least, I think the volume will change considerably depending on what's happening throughout the show (ie. if he's jamming with Andy McKee, I would imagine it would be relatively - well, quiet is probably a silly word, but not as loud as the funk stuff of course), so even sensitive ears will get some respite.

I found the medley sections very loud. I always carry earplugs, good ones. The medley in Victoria was intense. Great shows mind you but no point messing up your ears so that you cannot enjoy future concerts.

All of the indoor Prince concerts I have been too were very loud. I would recommend earplugs so your ears aren't ringing aftewards. They don't cut down on the enjoyment of the music but will save your hearing.

You should never take the risk with rock concerts.

Good earplugs are the best investment you'll ever do. Why spend tons of cash on concert-tix, albums, audio-equipments, etc if you're letting the most important get ruined: your ears.

Definitely wear earplugs if you are worried about it.

Probably not louder than Slayer but you never know!

It's not that I'm worried, I dislike earplugs myself.
I was just wondering what I'm going to get

It depends.

On the venue, the local regulations, etc.

Mostly his sound is quite clear so it can be loud without feeling like that.

It it probably won't be excessively loud.

Just use ear plugs so you won't have beeping ears afterwards.

Do you remember the 'Deeper Undergound' encore that Jamiroquai did at the Rotterdam Ahoy a few years ago? THAT was loud. (people were putting their fingers in their ears....)

This.

I wear earplugs at every concert, whether it's "loud" or not. shrug

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

My Dad first took my sister and I see Prince when I was 11 on the Diamond & Pearls tour and he blames Prince for his hearing loss. So yes, expect a loud show smile

I'm taking my Dad back to see him this time round in the hope of reversing the hearing loss razz

Since that show in 1992, the importance of earplugs has been drummed into me. I even keep some spares in the car in case I forget them.
