good to see wee jimmy is back...his famous review of the arras gig last year still makes me pish myself... '' COME ON TAE FUCK FRANCE...SING ! '' ...his review is here.. http://prince.org/msg/12/...sg_7544798 . i look forward to his review of hop farm...if he is going... . .

. . i would be very surprized if the hop farm gig is not full come the end of the month...if he can sell 400,000 tickets in 2007 at 31 quid....he can sell 50,000 tickets at 75 quid...even allowing for the recession.....ireland is a different case....ireland is a bankrupt country...i think whoever the promoters are for that gig have not fully realised that ...i am amazed at the ticket prices ...135 euros each...wtf..... . i can see the promoter taking a hit with those prices...prince will be paid up front no doubt... . .

i definetely dont think prince would have any problem filling a venue or stadium outside the states or the south of england. He nearly announced the secc in glasgow a few years ago but it fell through at the end.If it happened for sure he could fill the secc in glasgow atleast 4 times over.If Rihanna can sell out im sure Prince could too.

Why would't that be possible in the states or the south of England? what is different there compared to the rest of the world? I don't see.

I know Larry gets a lot of stick here, but He's the only support act that I'm looking forward to so far. I went to see him (last year) and took my Dad who alongside myself is a massive Sly and the Family Stone Fan, and I must say it was a fantastic show with a tight band. I can surely say that if the line up stays as it is, I'll be doing an awful lot of exploring the other random stuff going on..I mean.. come on, Parade (who??)...Really?? Tinie Tempah is good (for modern standards), but its not really something to get you in the vibe for Prince. Mama's Gun sound far more promising. I want proper music that can amaze and captivate me, not just mediocre stuff that you only like because the radio shoves it down your throat .
Would be nice to see some better support acts. My personal mish mash would be:
Sananda Maitreya (Formerly Terence Trent D'arby) Santana Foo Fighters RHCPeppers Van Hunt (highly underrated) Bloc Party Bjork Jamiroquai (early line up) George Clinton/Funkadelic Sly Stone (to compensate missing the Lovebox gig and to give him a chance to make up for Coachella) with the original Family stone members CSS
Wishful thinking...sigh

The Eagles perform their only UK show of the year on the Friday night. The trio of Iggy Pop, Lou Reed and Morrissey spearhead the Saturday. And then there’s Prince. "There was a big competition to get him," Vince Power explains from his London offices, as he surveys the impact, and column inches, of unveiling his Sunday night headline act. "He was offered several big deals with various promoters, but he liked what we were doing here with the no branding. He liked the non-corporate thing. "He wanted to do festivals and he came quite late. We’d been chasing him for six months to do something but eventually he confirmed some festivals in Europe so he booked with me." Tied up as his only UK show of the year, it saw the performer top a list of acts aimed fairly and squarely at a demographic oozing disposable income and a desire to relive their youth. "The first two years it was hard," Mr Power admits when he reflects on his Hop Farm experience. "Last year [with Bob Dylan headlining] it seemed to turn the corner. And now, if you look at the major acts on the bill, we’re up there with all the major festivals." Originally scheduled for just two days this year, the signing of Prince saw a third added. Explains Mr Power: "It was always our intention to do three days eventually, but sometimes it is difficult to get the acts you want. You cannot just book anyone. You have to get the acts right. The integrity is very important to us. "But at the end of the day the customer will tell us if it’s a rubbish festival." All the artists are playing, as is the norm for festivals, for a flat fee. Normal shows would see them play for a guaranteed sum and then a percentage of the profits. Not that the fixed rate necessarily guarantees a certain set-list. "The benefit to the artist of a festival is that you give them exposure to a huge amount of people who may not have seen them before," Mr Power explains. It’s a quicker way of getting exposure. "I’ve no idea what Prince, for example, is going to do with his set. I wouldn’t dare to interfere in his artistic decision. All I do know for sure is that he’s going to be on stage in Kent and he’ll do what he wants on the day." For Prince, it would be a surprise if fans do not see a repeat of his recent shows – enjoyable romps through his glittering back catalogue. Just don’t expect the more racier numbers. Since turning to the Jehovah Witness faith he has also turned his back on swearing. The chances of Sexy MF getting an airing will be akin to David Beckham signing for Tunbridge Wells FC.

Where is this reported? If thats the completed bill it's still quite poor. Prince aside, the Saturday is stacked with higher quality acts.

actually i'm pleasantly surprised as they've kept all the shite away from the main stage. i would have thought larry playing before prince would have been better than tiny dildo but i suppose he isn't as well known here
wtf are aloe blacc? sounds like a fucking shampoo
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Where is this from? Have the other days had their stages announced too?
The times aren't released until the day apparently but you'd think this means that Hot Chip are on the same time as Prince? If all three run the same time I wouldn't personally be bothered to leave the main stage.

Aloe Blacc is a superb singer. Real quality. Check out 'Loving you is killing me' on youtube I need a dollar is all over the radio at the moment in the UK.

Aloe Blacc was on Graham Norton recently. Retro soul thing, it's okay.

Correction "I need a dollar has been over the radio for at least 1 year .... check out jools holland ...aloe blacc is a group /band and they a the dog B**** for no UK readers of the org that means they a really really really good!
I'm now pleased because both Aloe Blacc and Hot Chip both playing ...Tinie will get the crowd going and Lab will do his thing...not bad at all really! The line up is pretty weak. Hot Chip and Young Knives are ok, Imeda and Alue are good, but the rest are average to crap.
I was really hoping for Bruno Mars, White Lies, Clare McGuire, Naked and Famous. Acts like that.
And Larry Graham being so far up the bill is a joke. I was hoping he would headline the smaller stage at the same time as Prince.
At least its helped me make up my mind for the day. I'm going to drive up in the afternoon just for Prince. .

Hop Farm Festival promoter Vince Power on how the event has grownVince Power
For anyone who has been in the music industry at any stage over the last 25 years, the name Vince Power carries significant weight.
Because the no-nonsense Irishman whose reputation proceeds him to such an extent it arrives, stays overnight and enjoys a leisurely breakfast before his physical form appears, can be credited with much of the current renaissance experienced in the UK festival scene.
Having built up his Mean Fiddler live music venue empire from humble beginnings and selling it for millions, his CV includes vital stints assisting turning around the fortunes of such events as the Reading and Glastonbury festivals.
Today, he is the man behind the Hop Farm Festival – a three-day musical celebration staged at the Paddock Wood venue which, he estimates, is directly responsible for injecting up to £20 million into the local economy.
And, for his latest trick, he has pulled yet another rabbit out of his deep, fur-lined hat.
They say the best things come in small packages. And for Mr Power, that package was finally delivered to him in a purple silk box and wearing a pair of high heels; Prince.
The Purple Rain star may well have long lost his commercial clout in terms of record sales, but his reputation as a live performer is rarely surpassed.
The last time he was on these shores he played a remarkable record-breaking run of 21 nights at London’s O2 Arena in the late summer of 2007.
For the Hop Farm Festival, it represents a serious shot in the arm in terms of credibility and reputation. With a carefully crafted unique selling proposition of no branding and no VIP areas, the event has managed to stand out in an intensely competitive marketplace with some fine signings.
The Eagles perform their only UK show of the year on the Friday night. The trio of Iggy Pop, Lou Reed and Morrissey spearhead the Saturday. And then there’s Prince.

Since turning to the Jehovah Witness faith he has also turned his back on swearing. The chances of Sexy MF getting an airing will be akin to David Beckham signing for Tunbridge Wells FC.
This year’s event, Mr Power estimates, will see 120,000 people over the three days; a mix of those there for the duration and day-tickets holders.
With the meat of the legends, the dish has been spiced up with a splattering of contemporary performers to appeal to younger age groups too. The phrase ‘family-friendly’ is en vogue in the increasingly crowded world of the music festival, and Vince Power is no mug.
Rapper Tinie Tempah, Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers, and Death Cab for Cutie are very much designed to get the discerning younger audience in too.
"It’s becoming a family thing," says Mr Power. "We had lots of kids under 12 last year and I think we will this year. They go free.
"I think the gap is getting closer between a teenager’s taste and that of their parents. You often see the teens getting into the legends and the parents getting turned on by the younger acts.
"Plus it’s great to encourage families. People love the idea of being there and camping. There is a sense of camaraderie at a festival. You wouldn’t speak to people normally at a bus stop, but at a festival everyone’s your friend."
n The Hop Farm Festival runs from July 1-3. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
