Yeah the set of If I Was UR Girlfriend, Insatiable, Scandelous & Adore was pretty hot.... The opening 6 songs were perfect too IMO.

Too me, this was one of the first shows that he really found that balance between playing recognizable hits for the 1st timers & a bunch of tasty tidbits for his hard core fans....

Really enjoyed this setlist.

Definitely drop the songs that are being teased. After more than one show it's coming off like Vega$.

What's to add?

Susan Sarandon has been a longtime P-geek and I suspect Halle was well. She also got a shout out as "Nasty girl", but had dropped backinto VIP zone. I'm sure Scarlet Johanssen was up there too. MAybe others I don't recognize.

The opening on my first night (4/30) was amazing. That opened with DMSR and the Twins on clarion trumpets. Q about Twins: Were they "faking the funk" on Raspberry Beret or were they really playing acoustics? That DMSR opener had to be keyboards).

I wanted more TIME tunes. My first night was 5 or 6 songs scattered throughout. I'm just hopin' for a reunion ot just slam 'em altogether in one block.

Should be a George Clinton walk on soon, eh?

I got some pics up on Facebook , I'll link 'em in the 4/30 thread. last night's are coming in a few

Okay, maybe just adding to the Halle Berry dancing would be suffice.....I think the DMSR opening with the Twins is the best opening for the 21 Night Stand. Especially when they march halfway down the arrow and Prince walks in between them, nice theatrical touch. I was wondering the same thing when I watched them with their guitars, didn't they have them on another song, too??? Since I now know they're in a "pop rock" band, I entertained the thought that they could actually be playing, but since we know they're not per DMSR.......probably not. I wonder how the audience would handle "We Can Funk?"

also, not sure if it was mentioned, but sheila e seemed to nearly break down to tears after her first song/solo and mentioning her father was attending.

i think that was also the loudest i've heard the forum crowd cheer.

It's possible those acoustic guitars are plugged in and heard in the mix...

the horns were definitely not...

When I Lay My Hands On You is by far and away my favorite opener. I'm not a fan of his JW version of DMSR. I don't understand why he can't say "lingerie" or "mothers"

I wirte these reviews as a "stream of consciousness" exercise. As things come to me and I post them, so it's a "top-of-the brain" scan instead of a one-time core-dump. + I 4get what board I'm on: org, one-nation, sacred ground, or FaceBook!

Yeah, the crowd always goes wild for Sheila. The crowd wants to get into a groove with a great song. She doesn't stop mid-verse to ask the fans to clap or sing half of the verse. She really puts 100 percent of herself into it. I guess that's what Prince did on 4/14. If Prince played an actual live version of WDC all the way through, they'd have to replace the rafters. (Or if he just said "Motherfucker") biggrin

I've never heard the crowd louder than when Halle Berry walked on. I didn't recognize her at first, but after the crowd response, I figured it out.

I was so engrossed in the deep thik bass of COOL, Heard him say "Halle Berry" and looked up to monitor to see her wishbone ridin' Prince's thigh. Dancin' close & sexy.

Damn! the meltt into "Don't Stop" is funkin' awesome!

How is security there?

Beefier last week than an opening night. I didn't notice people getting patted down on the way in, but the guarding of the aisles for loge & floor seats was more intense. We had to wait till the encores after many people left to sneak to a better location.Supposedly people caught shooting pics have had their camera contents deleted.

Well, I was there and that didn't happen to me. I stuck my camera inside my boobs and went on in like it was nobody's business. I was snapping up a storm in the nose bleed section. I got footage too! If somebody did that shame on them. How is he ever going to get more people to listen to his music if that kind of stuff is happening.

This was my first show on this tour and WOW! Fantastic! My best friend has just recently began really listening to P and this was her first P concert. What a great one for a first timer! She was dancing it up to all the songs even if she didn't know them. Halle Berry was breakin it down and Chris Robinson was gettin freaky! I think during Amel's set, I saw him with his arms up reachin for her. I saw him swinging his shirt around like during P's sets too. Didn't know it was him til he was gettin his freak on on stage. Was Scarlett Johanssen in the polka dot lookin tights and white dress? So stoke to here my fave songs: Take Me With U, If I was your Girlfriend, INSATIABLE, Scandalous... WOW. Definitely a night to remember. So glad to see Sheila! She is one of my fave musicians as is her father. I thought the dedication to him was so sweet. smile Amel's song to her hubby made me cry. I'm feel so blessed that I was able to make it to at least one of the L A shows. It was nice to see P crawl on the stage again. I hadn't seen that since 97/98? Can't wait for the Fresno show, but I have a feeling that this one is going to still top it! nod

Wasn't it funny how now one knew he was laying there when the stage lifted during the intro of When Eye Lay My Hands On U. Until there was a close up on the video screen, I couldn't make out what that was. Is this the first show in the series where he's laying on the stage like he's sleep to open up? Pretty awesome to have the crowd wake him. It was also interesting to hear that song and Future Soul Song with horms. Last night was great!!!!

Yes, yes, yes! It was awesome. I got a good pic of him laying on the floor, taken from the jumbotron. I loved hearing that song live! I was like are you serious? I knew what kind of night it was going to be based on that opening. I felt kind of bad for my entourage because maybe they wanted to hear more of the stuff they knew. But my daughter knows Prince songs because I listen to 20Ten weekly. I love that he did the new stuff. I felt like a hardcore fan for the first-time and I've been following him for what 27 years now. But if I am keeping it real, I felt he was rushing through some of the songs. He didn't settle in until and start having fun until after he played Purple Rain. I was like oh no this is not the end. He started saying thank you for coming out. I was like what. But I have a sneaking suspicion that he didn't like the crowd being so unsettled and uninvolved during Amel Lauriex performance. But she could have opened with "When You Gonna Get Up." and closed with "Tell Me" or vice versa. She was good though but it was a little slow. And the crowd wanted something hyped you could tell. Okay let me end this cuz I am going on and on.

I agree with you on that. Her set was a little slow, but when she did "Tell Me" she gained the whole crowd's attention. My friend isn't familiar with her music so I could tell she was getting a little antsy. I feel ya on feeling like a hardcore fan! OMG! I was singing and dancing to the newer stuff and the people around me were just sitting around and looking like, "how u know that one?" lol I was so happy he did new and rarities! I was a lil nervous that my friend would say she just had on ok time since she's only familiar with the hits, but when she was dancing to stuff she's never heard, I knew it was safe to say she was feeling the Prince vibe.

Yeah I was yakkin to someone gettin to their first show and she bemoaned the rumor that he was playing new stuff and medleys (like Hit & Run). I told her "Yeah he'll play everything for Purple except "Darling NIkki". IS that a OOPS? Cuz even the songs I didn't know sounded kick-ass!!

It's funny, each show I get a little nervous that Prince is gonna be pissed about something like the crowds reaction to his openers & then he comes out & gives us such a joyous happy to be here performance.
U remember those Prince concerts u used to attend & Prince would be pissed about something all night, the sound, the lights, some perceived notion of the crowds mood & u would be like "c'mon Prince I've missed u give me what u got we don't care what you're pissed at we love to watch u perform."
& then u BETTER scream the house down for that encore cuz u knew he'd just leave & take it to the after party. There's NONE of that attitude. It's like he's on a mission he's committed to whether it be to save the Forum, get closer to his fans & reach new ones or just prove his best live performance musician of all time rep.
I didn't get any of that vibe that he was disappointed in the crowds reaction to Amel or any other opening act I've seen I think he's putting them out there to educate the masses about music.
Yes he has layed on stage this tour, I think it was 4/30 when Mint Condition was on stage opening.
That said I did feel a different vibe from him on opening last night. More dramatic, theatrical serious before he later turned it into all fun.
Funny & surprising highlights from me taking my 68 year old Prince virgin mom. Her responding to something he said with "Yeah I'll take it baby!" less than 1/2 a half hour into the show then later watching him and going "oh, he's hot." then later saying "ok, his skinny a$$ is sexy" then later telling me how Prince & Shelia together made her get out of her seat and how some moments were truly magical. Never thought I'd hear her say that even tho that's how I feel. I was glad I got to take her. I was never able to in the past because I had to get my tix but now that he's giving us 21 nites in LA eek We can share these "magical" nights with family & friends. Thanks Prince. You're making us feel special. IMHO Prince has always shown LA love. He's my kinda brother laying it down in Inglewood.
NOW LET ME SHUT UP ALREADY, DAMN. HOUSEQUAKE!
