Doc says that Amel Larrieux is opening tomorrow, also that P was playing a new song "Gingerbread Man".

He played that in NYC on 12/29. It's to the music of Question of U/The One. Very sexy lyrics!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Amel Larrieux? OK, consider me penciled in for a long boring drive from the Bay Area 'round about 10am tomorrow morning. And back on Sunday. NO WAY am I missing Amel Larrieux at the Forum AND possibly "Joy In Repetition" "17 Days" and fucking "Partyman" in the set. NO WAY will I miss that shit. With $10 last minute tix, anyone who can attend and misses this show does NOT love music. Period! It does NOT get any better than THIS!!!

Any reports from tonight? Set list? Seems quiet in here.

I look forward to going next weekend, and I'd love to hear some "rare" songs. But anything, really, is cool with me smile

Just got back from the show. It was great. Prince was very flirty tonight. He invited some woman on stage and wrapped his arms around her while he played guitar. He was also crawling across the floor. He started around 9:30 and ended around 12.

I will say that his version of Purple Rain tonight was the best one so far. He seemed to be very emotional (in a good way) at the end of it.

I did not keep track of the songs or order, but I enjoyed Gingerbread Man. It was a bluesy song and the one where he did the crawling dance on the floor.

After the second encore, they turned the house lights up and the crowd went crazy, wanting more. So Prince showed up on stage, all splayed out, like he was exhausted. He then went to the piano and did the medley thing but that seemed to be enough for the crowd to finally let him go for the night.

Just got back...I'm sure someone will post the complete set list but I can give bits and pieces....opened with Lets Go Crazy....other morsels included Glamourous Life Take Me with U, 17 Days/Teena Marie's Lover Girl, tribute to Rick James-Give it 2 Me Baby, Everyday People, Play the Funky Music White Boy, Question of U, Don't Stop till You Get Enough, Cool, U Got the Look, Kiss,Purple Rain, Lets Work, Love Bizarre, Cock-Eyed Woman Jam, some ballad all the background singers sang around the piano, When Doves Cry encore and teased with a few songs (I Would Die 4 U, Forvever In My Life, Darling Nikki, Singel Ladies).

He played from 9ish to 12am....we waited for more after the lights came on for about 15 minutes...but they were kicking us out. I tried to give The Forum another chance after not being there for a few years....but its still a run down filthy dump. The lighting is horrible, long lines, gross bathrooms, bad sound system.

But Prince and the band were great! Mint Condition was great too...now I want to buy their new album! If Amel Lerreaux is opening thats very tempting....but....it seems like Prince is playing a lot of the same songs so far (Kiss, Cool, Sheila songs, Purple Rain,...If I go again I'd like to hear all new songs.

Oh...and those twins seem pretty low rate/rent....young and not impressive at all....like a bad mtv rip off of I don't know what.

Oh, one more thing. He said Sheila E. was going to debut a new song at Saturday's show.

And yes, I will be there again! These shows are so good and each one is different enough to make it worth seeing multiple shows.

You never know what you're going to get.

Plus, he played Shh tonight. He must have read how much I wanted to hear it again!

Tonight the guy next to me in Loge 35 has been to every night and he said opening night was the best and tonight was 2nd.

Prince was on fire! Flirty and not particularly religious tonight. smile kept asking where the old school people were, because he was pullling out the old Prince tonight. Nice.

He tore it up on guitar AND bass. I loved the extended bass.

Even his back up singers looked exhausted, sweating, didn't even know what he had in store for them.

He turned me out. I was satisfied even before the two encores. I was afraid because last Friday night was so short, barely 90 minutes, and tonight he made up for it. Im shocked to say, Tonight was an all time favorite Prince concert for me. He always surprises me! When he came out (just bam & he was there) on us in all black with his black do rag on to tear up Mint Condition's set I knew
It was gonna be funky in Inglewood tonight. Mmm, mmmm, mmm, it was good ya'all.
I was floored and turned out. Been seeing him since 1985.

Sections of the colonnaded were blacked out but it was otherwise open and packed tonight. Show wasn't sold out but tix were tight at the box office at showtime; no upgrades like Thurs night, no $10 seats, Forum parking was $25 as usual. Mint Condition opened and were better than they were last week; P did come out and play on one cut with them, very cool to see & hear.

P comes on approximately 9:35pm to the opening chords of "Let's Go Crazy." Morris held that chord for what seemed like minutes before Prince emerged from the floor. The setlist:

Let's Go Crazy

Delirious; back to LGC

1999

Shhh (tonight, Prince gave the Tele back and strapped on the orange Fender and played the solos instead of giving them to Renato; Blackwell and he shredded on this cut)

Mountains

17 Days (w/ "Lovergirl"/Teena Marie chorus segment)

Give It To Me Baby (Rick James tribute)

Everyday People

Play That Funky Music

Glamorous Life

Santana Medley:

Jungle Strut

Soul Sacrifice

Toussaint L'Overture

The Question Of U/The One/Gingerbread Man

Take Me With U

Raspberry Beret

Cream

Cool w/ "Don't Stop..."

Bass Jam w/ Ida (P plays the green Auerswald and jams "777-9311")

Let's Work

U Got The Look

Encores

Make U Feel My Love

Purple Rain

Kiss

A Love Bizarre

Controversy

Segment/Medley:

When Doves Cry

Nasty Girl

Sign O' The Times

Most Beautiful Girl In The World

Forever In My Life

Darling Nikki

Single Ladies

I Would Die 4 U

Kind of an odd ending to the show, to end with a sample medley like that...it was cool, he had fun with it and played it well but...

This was more of a "greatest hits" show & crowd and P definitely pleased. For me the highlights were Shhhh, Mountains (hadn't heard it yet), Play That Funky Music (believe it or not, the crowd lost their collective damned minds on that one and it was played with all kinds of energy), the Santana medley (again, heard of it but have never heard him do it; Carlos is one of my favorite players and P's affection & respect for him was obvious in this tribute), and The Question of U/The One. I would beg to differ with a previous opinion that Purple Rain tonight was the best yet; not true, IMO. It wasn't a poor or weak performance but it felt flat compared to last night, where the crowd's energy just carried it and really motivated Prince, or opening night where he really stretched out and opened up on it, playing as though it was brand new again.

Overall a very, very satisfying show. Appealed to more of the casual fans who wanted to hear the hits versus the hardcore fans who wants to hear obscure songs not generally played...like last night, opening with Joy In Repetition...that was bananas...but a good show. Definitely still playing well but I wonder if he'll get bored with Purple Rain and Let's Go Crazy and maybe drop them for a few nights at least to recharge those well-worn batteries...

Its getting to a point where a third of the main set is cover versions or songs of his recorded by other people.

So many hits so little time? Princey, when are you going to learn people want When Doves Cry, not Rick James. If he wants to survive 21 nights he needs solid reviews. He needs to step up his game.

And finishing with the sampler set? He did that in London one night and the audience left very underwelmed. It you could see the frustration of being reminded that he ignored all these great hits in favour of covers.

exactly on point!!! People go to see Prince play Prince songs...not other people's... obviously he has to play for 'the masses' but does he really think people will enjoy that more than his own songs.....is he not interested in pushing his audience like he used to...is he happy to just be a jukebox nowdays?

To clarify, I was not at those other shows. So, of the 3 I've seen (4/22, 4/23 and 4/29) I thought last night's version of Purple Rain was the best one so far.

It was part of the sampler set. I'm not sure if it was a Prince song. For example, one night he played Hot Thing and sang a bit of it as part of the sampler set.

Thanks everybody for the details! I shoulda known that midnight (when I posted the question above) was too early for Prince reviews wink He had just barely got offstage.

Sounds like a Thurs concert & a weekend one are pretty different. Maybe I could try to get there for both.

Not sure why Janet is getting slammed, I saw her show a few times too....first few rows...she was really singing and entertaining....2 hours and each time I saw the show there were song different songs thrown in. I had just as good s time at Janet as at Prince....different shows and different appealing qualities.

I like her too but did not appreciate a concert with alot of lip syncing. I had no idea she would do that. I did not pay to go to see an artiste lip synch or sing with tracks the whole time. Apparently she does that....that is just how she rolls...i found out afterwards. I personally just had no idea. Sure she is talented, beautiful all that..but why not sing at the concert.

I only saw the one show, but apparently people are complaining about lack of costume (wife beater shirt and black jeans only now), and shortened/cut lists, as well as lipping...Sure there are good reviews too..but lets be honest about the performance itself.

If you went to the concert-I don't know how one would not pick it up.

I brought it up because people are complainging about Prince and the show..but trust me there is not alot better out there. He is proven in the studio and in concert.....

His freaky side came out full affect last night, crawled on the stage twice, did some freaky things, said something about being on his face >_> lol. It was crazy, played a guitar on this one girl with this tight dress and I think he rethought that out and was like wow, I guess I shouldna done that huh hahaha, she made his day! lol Uhhh what was the funniest, him singing about his cockeyed woman, with one leg xD. I gotta say, when he rose on the stage and was on the floor it was funny because everyone was screaming then lookin like oh crap did he past out lol, then he jumped up and was looking at everyone crazy haha. It was a funny night, his goofy side was in full effect last night. I gotta say I can't go tonight, because I've had my weekly dose. Bottom line though, he really enjoyed himself you can tell, and I love the energy between him and Sheila E. Since my friend and I left when the lot emptied out we saw a white limo, really big, drive up and stop near the entrance on the floor, and I was thinking could this be who I think it is' limo. It was pretty funny, but we waited for a while then I guess he wasn't coming back out, so by the time we got outside it was kinda emptied out.I saw that limo, shook my head and said I guess it was the end of the show. I don't have no complaints because I got really good seats for 25 and I had fun with my drunk friend hehehe, amazing night!!! but gotta admit, Thursday was so much energy from me being so excited, last night was awesome because I could see him up close and it was like a party too. Maybe because it was less ppl Thursday I liked it better smile, love the man he's got the crowd eating out the palm of his hand. Must be nice to live that way smile well, just my twocents

This was my 3rd concert on this series and I must say I loved last night's concert. He was def in rare form and was def flirty, sexy, and simply amazing. This was the Prince that I was ALWAYS hoped to see and I finally saw it.

I never got to see him at his prime (during Purple Rain) because I was too young but last night's concert satisfied the need/want. I'm speechless.
